Deliberate wheel damage?
EastdulwichNewbie replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Tire (cars are not my strong point) -
Hi, Does anyone provide a pre-paid card for their nanny to use for expenses related to the children? We tend to use cash atm and I?d like to know if there is a better way! Thanks, Rebecca

Hi, In the last couple of months we?ve had wheels damaged. Today we woke up to a screw in the side of the wheel requiring a new replacement. It would be a funny place for this to have occurred in the normal course of driving / parking and the mechanic fixing suggested it might be deliberate. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

Flu vaccines locally

Thank you! -
Hi, Does anyone know whether any local pharmacies have the flu vaccine available? Thanks

Without going into loads of unnecessary detail, I wanted to let people know that Scott from Callows was an absolute life saver when my key broke in the door with three young, hungry children waiting to get into our house. He went above and beyond to get us in and sorted with a new lock, after closing time. Really outstanding customer service.

Was almost 48 hours in the end for anyone booking atm.

Thank you - seems like we are on track for something similar (optimistically!).

Hi Does anyone know the local PCR turnarounds at the moment? We went to the Belair site at c4pm yesterday. The guy said it could be up to 3 days but it was usually the following morning. Have there been delays? Thanks

private or state?
EastdulwichNewbie replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Tomskip - I totally understand your point of view here. Like everyone else I?m just trying to do the best for my children and being in a secondary school dead zone makes things a bit more tricky. I know that other parents in East Dulwich will have thought about this subject a lot so wanted to ask this corner of the internet. I?ve contributed to other topics on here at times about things that other people wouldn?t have experience of or the stomach for to be helpful and I?m pleased that people have taken the time to respond. -

Thanks everyone who has taken the time to reply. I really appreciate the effort. -
private or state?

Thanks for your responses. Tomskip - I suppose the things that appeal are the smaller classes, facilities (& being properly funded), potential exposure to sports /activities that would be of interest, a commitment to educational achievement & hopefully teaching staff who have capacity to speak to parents if needed (my sister is a teacher at a grammar and is run off her feet). I hate the superiority thing. My husband and I both went through the state system - his a very crappy school and mine didn?t really support me to achieve, asking ?why do you want As??. It?s tricky - I suppose I have an idea of what an independent school might offer without having gone to one and a not brilliant experience of the state system which might not be representative! -
Hi, I have young children and am starting to think about longer term plans for education. Our location isn?t brilliant for secondary schools (I have primary age children). If I could get my wish list I?d look for a school that nurtures my children, gives them opportunities to pursue their interests and gives them confidence (whatever their ability). I would obviously love them to do well academically but Oxbridge isn?t something I yearn for for them. As mentioned our location isn?t brilliant and I?m wondering whether we will go private (I acknowledge that at the moment we think we can manage this financially). However, I wonder whether given my hopes for them a private education might actually not be the best place for them. I would love to hear from anyone who has wrestled with this and perhaps has older children now. Do we move, just go to whatever is offered or seek out the right fee paying school (assuming this is open to us at the time). Many thanks!

Also offered a vaccine at Guys for no obvious reason. I called the GP and was told they are offering where these is an excess supply. It?s difficult to verify whether this is the case. Would hate to deprive someone but would hate to waste a shot now when it?s been made available!

Yes, I know three symptomatic couples where one partner was positive and one negative. The nurse who took the blood said this as there case at the hospital he worked at too.

I would also like to add a recommendation for Federico who has recently cut and coloured my hair. I was really happy with the results (thank you Fede!!) & received a lovely compliment from a friend about it. He does a fantastic job and is fun company too.

Hi, We went for a Bugaboo Chameleon (and yes, is a bit yummy mummy). It is very sturdy so is great for parks and crap paving and works as a travel system (very useful in the early days to be able to use with a car seat). I bought when I had my first, used it with two children with a buggy board and is now being used for my third baby. I?ve never had to replace anything and I?m sure it will have life in it when I eventually pass on. Definitely an investment unless you buy second hand though. Depending on where you live I would say to check the weight and width of buggies for getting into your home / up stairs if you will need to do this. Think about how you might use it (do you drive?) and where. Do you travel a lot? Ultimately they all pretty much do the job though. A friend of mine got a much cheaper model (sorry, can?t remember the brand) and I never heard her complain. Good luck with it all!

Hi, I don?t have an answer to this but are people also wondering how we can support local businesses (& livelihoods)? If people are urged not to eat out then apart from those on deliveroo (& even those with) that is most of the high street demolished. Would love to hear ideas. I know Tart are selling vouchers online for future visits. Thanks

Assistance for anyone in quarantine?
EastdulwichNewbie replied to johnqadams's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I?m also on Barry Road! I was planning on posting a note to my neighbours on either side and opposite with my mobile number & to say to get in contact if they need help. -
Hi! Wondering if anyone can help. We bought a Peugeot 5008 (2018 model) second hand last year but they failed to provide a wheel nut key which means we can?t get our tyres changed (I didn?t know what the key was until I realised we don?t have it!). Would any kind soul be able to lend one to us so we can change the wheels and we can return. Keen to get them replaced before the world gets any stranger. Appreciate this is a big ask. Thank you 🤞🤞🤞
