Anyone know any gossip on new places on Lordship Lane?
James replied to Katiesa's topic in The Lounge
I remember Bejam! Yes, let's bring it back. What about a Wimpey? My mum used to take me there for lunch. I recall there used to be a burger called "Bender in a Bun" but nobody seems to believe me! Does anyone else remember that? Hopefully the shoe shop will be something like Bullfrogs in Greenwich (bracing myself for shrieks of "A chain!") -

Iceland is great for a bargain. And you don't get rammed out of the aisle by a 3-wheeled pushchair. Still... can we get the police station replaced by a Waitrose please! Where do I sign for that? -

The remaining chavs. Can we ship them out somewhere? Surely they could sell up and buy mansions in Romford with the proceeds of the housing boom? -
I think it's not so much the fact that it's a big spliff, but the way the actor performs the scene so brilliantly. That combination of drug-induced sagacity and sheer jibberish. Genius.

Keef, you are much mistaken indeed. W&I is a total classic. Has anyone mentioned the Camberwell Carrot yet?

Speaking of which (I am probably going off topic now...) I have been meaning to cycle to work for a while but have so far been put off by the thought of the Old Kent Road. Can anyone advise a good, safe route - preferably avoiding those hideous roundabouts at Elephant - from Peckham Rye side of East D to Chancery Lane? And tell me how long it takes? And ressure me that I (probably) won't get killed by a bendy bus? -

I get this from friends all the time. They always react with astonishment when I tell them ED is in zone 2 - as if London begins 10 miles North of the Thames but sort of stops at the South Bank. The tube thing is annoying - I mean Amersham and Epping have tubes but they're hardly in London are they? Plus the tube is AWFUL and totally overrated, it's such a totally unpleasant, uncivilised way to travel. Just getting to and from the platform seems to take half the journey time, plus you never get a seat in rush hour... I'd much rather wait 10 minutes for an overland train or a bus. -
I think our local Thai places are crap as well. Me and my boyfriend are vegetarian; went to Sema and were assured that there would be no fish products/oyster sauce in the mains we chose. This was a total lie as we could taste it but they wouldn't back down. So in the end we paid for our drinks and left. Someone told me the Thai Pavilion is dreadful - has anyone else been there? Can't comment on the Corner Cafe as they do not cater for vegetarians at all. A friend tells me that Crystal Palace has an excellent thai place "with umbrellas all over the ceiling"(?) Might be worth checking out.

Used to walk to ED station, train to London Bridge, then tube to Chancery Lane (annoyingly having to change at Bank). Expensive and cattle-truck conditions all the way (including the barrier often closed at London Bridge due to overcrowding). Since discovered the 63 bus. Takes a bit longer - best part of an hour, door to door - but it's one journey, I never have to wait long & nearly always get a seat. No stress (apart from the occasional idiot eating smelly fried chicken or playing awful "slowjams" on their mobile phone) and it costs me ?2 a day with my Oyster card. Miles better. The tube sucks anyway, we can do without it! -
Blimey, a flat-pack for over a million! Still, they are fantastic. That converted church in Northcross Road is probably nice as well - anyone been inside? And there's that cool-looking flat overlooking Peckham Rye which is a bit like the Oval cricket ground - probably SE15(?) I could go on... Alas our 2-bed Victorian flat will have to do for the time being. One day perhaps...

Thanks for the good wishes forum people:) -
I love Alan Carr! So many comedians these days seem to love their own reflection a bit too much (stand up Russell Brand). It's great to watch someone who's sharp, totally offbeat and not scared to send himself up completely (love Bill Bailey too for that reason).

Those modernist glass & wood (painted black) houses behind Dulwich Park that look a bit Bauhaus-y. My dream is to live in one of those! Jenny Eclair's house is lovely too but is that her gold Rolls Royce that's always parked outside? How gaudy!

Reported it to the police yesterday, got the all-important crime number and my bank's fraud dept have already put the money back in my account. Now they're sending me a form to fill in and hopefully that should be that. All the same I feel totally violated and annoyed that these scammers must be making a mint out of us all. -

My card was declined at a restaurant tonight, so on my return home I logged in to my bank account to discover that someone has spent ?2300 at a food & wine place in Nottingham using my switch card details. I feel totally sick as a pig and am wondering if anyone who's been through this has any advice on how I can get my money back asap. I have cancelled the card and have to wait until tomorrow morning to report it to my bank's fraud department. One thing that really irritated me was that the woman at HSBC immediately suggested that I might want to purchase "fraud protection" to prevent it happening again. The implication being that I'm partly to blame for not doing this. Thanks! Thanks also for using my misfortunte as a sales opportunity. The weird thing is I had been reading about this lately on this very thread, wondering if it would happen to me. I am so gutted :'( -
Zizzi's ok. Not nearly as bad as people are making out. I would prefer an independent one, but only if it was decent (there are far too many crap independent places about, like that dreadful Mexican place on Lordship lane. Better a half-decent chain than that).

Owner of The Bishop opens new pub in Herne Hill
James replied to MadWorld74's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Bishop seems to be full of braying loudmouth rah-rah types relocated from Surrey. Not my cup of tea. I much prefer places like the Clock House, far less try-hard. -
A piano bar? I have visions of Barry Manilow, people in shoulder pads and a chorus line with ostrich feathers on their heads. Am I right?

Does anyone know what the shop opposite Mrs Robinson on Lordship Lane is going to be? It used to sell ethnic furniture & rugs and is now getting a yellow paint job... has it changed hands?
