I know I've been on about this before but I'm sure that anyone thinking of opening a restaurant round here could make an absolute killing (no pun intended) with a veggie place. If I had the time and money I'd do it myself! Lordship Lane is such a destination for eating out now - we seem to have just about everything except a veggie place. Given the Crouch End/Stoke Newington demographic round these parts (not to mention the posh kids from the village) and the current obsession with healthy eating there simply MUST be a market for it. Any takers? Go on, I'm fed up with trekking across London. I want to stay here and support something local!

I think their very name is racist. They should divide their branches into two and call half of it White Stuff and the other half Black Stuff. -
Thanks for the link Teagirl! I wonder how much of what we put in actually does get recycled.
-
It was never going to work anyway, she could easily get through the prison bars (admittedly her sunglasses would get stuck).
-
Sorry to sound thick but I never know what is and isn't recyclable - suspect I am putting inappropriate stuff in the box because I am keen to recycle as much as possible. Does anyone have a quick guide to what is and isn't recyclable?

Perhaps Lord Lordship is the Mr Hyde to Dulwichmum's Dr Jekyll. If you catch my drift?

My vote definitely goes to Lee. Such smouldering eyes!

A "gay field" at Glastonbury? What will this include? Jimmy Somerville selling bondage gear? I do wonder whether it's necessary. I share the view that this sort of thing can be counter-productive for gay people as it tends to be divisive. Not to mention that way it often portrays us all as hedonistic, sex-crazed muscle Marys. Some years ago I went to Pride in London and was disgusted to see what was going on in the loos at a festival where there could be children about... Not only is it grossly disrespectful to everyone - gay and straight - it does us a massive disservice in terms of the way straight people perceive us. Would be v interested to know how the gay area turns out at Glasto.

I would get one too actually. Lol

I am still up for rainbow drinks with local gay girls & boys too! Keep us posted:)

Lol! I am not a fan of their clothing but I like their attitude -
I'm off to Latitude. Am well excited, the line-up is the best of the lot IMHO and it's not just music either. Never been to Glasto - is it as good as everyone makes out?

The restarant upstairs at the Design Museum (Blueprint Cafe) is where I had my best meal in London. Amazing views of the Thames and Tower Bridge, and as for the food... sublime. Incidentally, the day before our visit I rang to tell them the person I'd be dining with was a vegan. When I arrived they'd put together a special menu which they'd clearly done specially for us. It's one of the few 'posh' restaurants I've been where the staff made us feel like we were the important ones - not them. -
According to the Express the designers of the new logo had been taking acid from the same batch that Diana's driver's drink was spiked with by the Queen Mother.

Brilliant, Paul. Totally inoffensive. You can't be offended by it as there is nothing to it. The trouble is, if we had a referendum on it tomorrow, yours would probably win! Which sort of proves my point really.

Too late? I was gonna suggest a subscription to Q or whatever music mag he likes. That way you can do it over the net & don't even have to leave the house!
-
You would have been the envy of many men, Tillie T. I hope she was wearing her little gold hotpants?
-
Yes but I DO know more than those 900 saps!;-) Honestly Paul, I may have been a bit harsh - sorry if I seemed patronising or rude - but working in the creative industry myself, few things annoy me more than people joining in a game of Let's Rip It To Shreds without offering a constructive way forward. It's too easy! What's worse is that when everyone does this you end up with dull, inoffensive rubbish. Think about it. Who has made more impact (in all creative spheres, not just music) - the Sex Pistols or the winners of X-Factor? Btw I do see your point regarding it being a pastiche of 80s new wave style - but that is an aesthetic judgment, not an incontestible fact. Incidentally, would anyone of the critics care to proffer their own design here on the forum? ...thought not.

The more I see it, the more I like it. And the more pathetic all the whingers seem - jumping on the bandwagon. Us Brits do love a smug moan about how much better our taste is than everyone else's. And the cost argument is ignorant too - all corporate identities cost a fortune, as anyone who works in marketing knows. The main reason being the amount of negotiations, approvals, amends etc. required. They had a feature on BBC TV this morning about it with some old f*rt who didn't like it (too old and out of touch). Then they showed the Barcelona 92 recent Sydney ones as examples of how it should be. They were both dreadful - dull, bland and generally reminiscent of a provincial tourist website. In answer to your critique Paul (someone has to have the balls to stand up and defend it): "It is already old." You could say that of any trend in graphic design whatsoever as they all use elements of what has gone before. The choice is not "old" versus "new" but "attitide" versus "bland". It seems most of the British public prefer the latter. But then, most of the British public like Barratt homes and DFS. Sorry to be snobby but it's true. "The word 'London' is tiny etc." Agree with you on this one! But it's still legible, and what really matters is whether or not the logo captures something of London's attitude and energy, which I think it does. "The misaligned edges are pop new wave". Um, that's what designers DO (I thought as a designer, you would know this!) - they take elements from music, art, film etc. and reinterpret them. In the same way, you could say the fantastic Mexico 68 one was "groovy swinging London." Fortunate that nobody did at the time, since it's now a design classic. "Interactivity" - obviously web is important these days and they have had to address this. "Where is the sport?" Surely this is obvious! The whole thing has a kinetic, dynamic feel delivered partly by the "wonky edges" everyone is so critical of.
-
Have to admit, the new logo does look a bit... unusual. You hardly notice the "2012" and the "London" and rings elements. And, clearly, the designer has been listening to Klaxons and CSS. However I think it's a bit mean and lazy to jump on the critical bandwagon. It's really easy to slag something off but requires a bit of brainpower to suggest what you'd do instead. At least this logo is polarising opinions - surely a good sign? It's bright, dynamic and very now. I'd rather that than some dull, corporate piece of blandness designed not to offend anyone. The logos we remember are the ones that went out on a limb and captured the zeitgeist, like Mexico '68.
