Local Station Ticket Office Closures
James replied to danielson00's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lots of evidence of cost-cutting by these train companies. But with our ridiculously inflated fares, where is the investment? Peckham Rye station seems to get dirtier and more overcrowded by the day. -
Experience with uber taxi service !
James replied to dulwichgourmet's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having been refused by black cab drivers on so many occasions for living in SE London my sympathy has completely run out. Only last week one practically laughed in my face for living in Peckham and expecting that he might take me there from Clerkenwell. Nice attitude. They have become hugely complacent and ridiculously overpriced. Uber isn't perfect but it's far more convenient and far better value. -
If we go down the pussy-footing cultural relativism route you end up with what happened in Rotherham. I'm with Mick Mac on this one. Sorry, this is the UK and we have laws here to protect children from abuse. If you don't like it, tough. I would not expect to go to another continent and expect them to match my cultural values so why the other way round?

Camberwell Bakerloo extension looking unilkely
James replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I still find it amazing that when they proposed changes to the Wimbledon loop all hell was let loose... and yet Wimbledon will be getting Crossrail 2 - and already has direct trains to Waterloo about every 5 minutes, and a tube station! Peckham Rye desperately needs direct, frequent trains into Central London (our London Bridge services have actually been cut from 6tph a few years ago to just 4 now, and you can't even change for Charing Cross any more as Southeastern Services no longer stop at London Bridge). -
Are you for real?

Oh Jeremy. Bao is a type of food. So saying a restaurant is 'ripping off' another by having bao in its name is a bit like saying any shop with burger in its name is a rip off of other burger places. Yeah that HONEST BURGERS place. They're just ripping off Burger King. Pah!

Obviously not a great business model if they went bust

Bread is lovely as a treat but be careful. Most of us probably eat too much!

What's opening on East Dulwich Road/new restaurant?

Who you gonna call? **GHOSTBUSTERS** -
Which train was the rat running for? If it had been a fat cat it would be London Bridge for the City I imagine?

Koz belongs in Beckenham much more I think. Food offerings round here need to be more on trend. The cinema will be packed. Older forumites may be unaware of this but much like local restaurants and all things boutiquey and farmers' markety, cinemas of the plusher and more intimate kind are having a huge resurgence among 30- and 40-somethings.

(ED Picturehouse now open)when is the cinema on LL opening?
James replied to Ole's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the fact they are late opening will have no bearing whatsoever on the quality of their business, or what people think of them! Building work always overruns, especially when you're dealing with a huge old building that may have all sorts of unforeseen issues. In any case, I presume the builders will not be running the cinema? Sorry to e facetious but I see no connection between the two whatsoever. When it opens we will all forget the delays and flock there anyway. -
I don't want to scare people unduly and agree we need to keep things in proportion. My perception is that East D/Peckham's growing affluence is sticking out more and more. Walking along Lordship Lane the other day it felt like Northcote Road. Plus all these silly property features in the press are drawing attention to the area. Worth remembering that we're not all millionaire Clapham refugees but this is how some may see us. We are fortunate to live in a prosperous place. I don't want to get into a debate about the pros and cons of gentrification as this forum already has more than the complete works of Shakespeare on that subject. Suffice to say we just need to be vigilant and neighbourly. Please report anything dodgy and tell your neighbours.

Police came round super quick. They were helpful but not a lot they could do really.

We live in Peckham Rye (Maxted Road area) and yesterday caught a young bloke climbing over the wall into our garden. He claimed he was looking for a ball but does not live in any adjoining house, there was no ball and had his hood up... quite obviously up to no good. We reported him to the police. Please keep an eye out and do the same if you see him. And obviously keep all doors and windows secured. He was about 5'6", dressed in baggy sports clothes, a red or grey hoodie and white European in appearance.

Altered Thameslink Service Tomorrow Monday (26th Jan)
James replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
With a man making all manner of excuses for Govia and basically saying "They've just been unlucky." So why is this line so much worse than others? Has it been cursed by black magic? -
Future Thameslink service from Peckham Rye
James replied to jj2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Given both Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill are both in zone 2, surely we need AT THE VERY LEAST 4 tph all day on all major routes? 2tph would be acceptable for a small satellite town but this is zone two of London, a major interchange and with no tube!! -
Future Thameslink service from Peckham Rye
James replied to jj2's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Am I correct in assuming that, apart from the London Overground (great if you need to go to East/SW London, not so great for anywhere central) every major route we have from Peckham Rye has either stayed the same in terms of frequency or actually declined (e.g. London Bridge services) in the past few years? With the population (and our ticket prices) increasing all the time and still no Tube in SE London, surely this is unacceptable? -

Burro e Salvia is coming to East Dulwich
James replied to burroesalvalnd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am furious and disgusted that a shop is coming to the area without asking my permission. The cheek of it! -
Apparently Alleyn's school is to be demolished and replaced by an outpost of Lakeside. It will be known as Intu Dulwich and will boast big brands like Superdry as well as a standalone Le Creuset store (one of the few in London)
