kamath replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
just seen mine . none of my choices and a school miles away I have never heard of . crying -
Really silly question but does anyone know what time the email letting you know what school place you have for September 2013 gets sent. It says that you will get an email on the evening of wed 17th. Only reason I am asking if that we will be travelling on Wed late evening. I know this is a silly question but just wonder if parents for last year can help ?

I am totally fed up with constant coughs and colds in our house. My son seems to pick up every bug going at nursery and then passes it onto his 1 year sister and sometimes myself. We have got through so much calpol and snuffle babe since October and none of us get any sleep ! It has started to become a joke now - once he seems to get over his cold and cough then another comes ! Anybody else having this problem and any tip on how to help the cough etc and for us all to get some sleep!!! any magic cures !! xxxxxx

Hi , can anyone help me or give me some advice. I couldn't breast feed my first child but my second took to the breast straight away . Unfortunately I developed thrust in my breast and feeding was very painful, so painful I almost gave up. But after 10 weeks it got a bit better. Now 13 months down the line I am still breast feeding which is great BUT at night he wont stop and sleep ! he also is not a great eater in the daytime and want the breast for small snacks!. We have just moved him out of our room and in the study but we need to put him in a room with her brother asap as my husband works from home and needs the room to work in. I am worried that if I put him in with his brother he will wake him u as he wakes up about 7 times a night ! He is now 3 and sleeps well so I don't want to mess his sleep up. I have tried a bottle and he wont take it but messes around with it then tries to feed from me. I wouldn't mind if he just woke a couple of times a night but 7-8 is just crazy and I am shattered. Because I struggled with breast feeding giving up totally seems hard. I really don't want to do controlled crying and wondered i anyone had any magical ideas!? Any advice welcomed !! x x x

I had the Lanes Midwifes this time last year and they were amazing! I had an awful first experience at st Thomas's hospital as they were so under staffed I almost gave birth in the waiting room . I suffered a 4th degree tear with my first. I was terrified about giving birth naturally again and was told by St Thomas's I was have to have a c- section. But with the experience, and wonderful Lanes midwifes I had my second naturally and safely and at home. I had Mary delivering but all the visits after were from different Lanes midwifes and they were all fantastic. And through the 9 months I was so worried all the time about various things and worried I would tear again etc but Yvonne (my assigned midwife)supported and guided me so well and took all my worries seriously and helped me in every way she could! I would go with the again if I was you ! Good luck ! Sorry big ramble - still sleep deprived !!

Hi have a collection of nappies , mostly newborn size. I was wondering if anyone knew of a local charity that might find them useful? or anyone needing them?

Could anyone recommend safe, good vitamins to take whilst breast feeding. Feeling the need for them in these winter months ! x

'Easier' birth second time round - for how long?
kamath replied to Fmm's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had a very bad tear the first time (4th degree tear) and was very worried about having another. But 2.5 years later I had another and only managed a 2nd degree tear. I think the body recovers quickly and 2 years is a good gap but psychological you can take longer. I was so worried about tearing again and when it came to pushing a was very scared. Had it not been for an amazing midwife (Mary from lanes midwifes) I think I could of had an awful experience. Due to her attention, care and amazing skills she calmed me down and guided me through the brith. Both labours were quick - first 4 hours and second baby was just under 2. Guess what I am saying is a think if you feel ready to go again and you feel psychological prepared then go for it. From the small amount of research I did about how the body repairs itself after tearing etc then I think over a year is fine - but I am defiantly not expert! Good luck x -

food suggestion for 10month after hospital visit!

thank you very much everyone. just a quick question - with the apple do you fry it in olive oil? x -
Hi everyone, I have just had an awful weekend in hospital with my 10 month baby girl. We have all had the dreaded sickness bug . we (adults in the family) were all sick lots and rushing to the toilet but my son (3) had an awful cough and cold that went to his stomach and made him sick lots. It totally wiped him out and he still has a nasty cough a week later. But little girl got very poorly with it and could hold anything down not even calpol . She had a temperature or 39 so it was off to A&E. Anyway to cut a long story short she was eventually admitted after our second visit to A&E on sat evening. She is now home and holding most breast feeds down and seems a lot better despite sounding like she smokes 100 a day ! My question to all you lovely, wise people is - do you have any ideas as to what to give her in the way of solids as she seems hungry . She seems to want finger foods and I struggled before she got with ideas for healthy (easy as I find it hard with my 3 year old too) finger food that avoids choking . Then she starts to cough that is when she is sick! Anyway this is a total ramble so will stop. Looking forward to hearing any suggestion x x

thank you all. I used cooled boiled water through the night and he seems fixed this morning. he was sick all night long so looks like we have a nasty bug ! yippee ! laundry and smell of sick everywhere ! Think he must of had a small infection . but will keep an eye on it ( excuse the pun!) x Thank you all again

my so has a rather bad cold and possible conjunctivitis - going to keep an eye on it to see how it develops. Just wondering if anyone know how to treat it before it gets to red or sore. Also does anyone know if it means time off nursery? Thanks in advance x

Hi , I was wondering if anyone was giving vitamin drops to their baby. The health visitor gave us some to use at 8 weeks but the expired after a few months. I gave them to her when I remembered . Just wondering if it is a recommended thing to do. I didn't with my son but he was formula fed and formula milk seems filled with vitamins. Just wondering what other did or do and what vitamin drops to use as the ones from the health visitor don't seem available in chemists.

He is 3 now. When he first got it he was 2. The cough sounds like croup. Did wonder about asthma but thought it was not diagnosed till later in life?

Hi , about a year ago my son was in A&E with very bad croup. He recovered well but since than every time he gets a cold the croup seems to come back. Usually at the end of the cold and always at night. It doesn't get as bad as the first time but always worries me as the A&E trip was very scary. I am always on edge wondering what to do as I know it can be serious if if gets really bad. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has any magic tips? Thank you in advance x x
