  1. My post above has been edited to remove details about the location. Apologies for being so clueless!
  2. Dear James, could you please advise on how to proceed with this... Last night we had an attempted break-in. Luckily I shouted and that scared the guy off. The police came round but the darkness and wet weather meant they couldn't trace any footprints. Anyhow, they checked the garden over and said the thief had mostly likely climbed over the back fence. I'd like to know how I can contact the owner of the property at the back if they never seem to be in. Or how I can find out if the house is now empty. Is there a way of getting the council to look into this? The garden is running wild and the signal is clearly there for burglars: here's an easy way in. many thanks for your time, Rachel
  3. thanks! has anyone tried the people in Penge - featured in Living South in a recent edition?
  4. We need to have curtains made for virtually every window in the house we've moved into. Was going to get them done at Carol Henri but the sad news is he's sold up. Where do people go for curtains now? All suggestions, local or otherwise, welcomed with open arms - it's getting pretty chilly and we've procrastinated long enough!
  5. Sounds like EXACTLY the sort of thing my son (3 years, just) would do. Oh, and my daughter (14 months) is quite obsessed with Sudocreme... I'd recommend putting the dreaded pot out of sight on a high shelf and getting a nap when you can, safe in the knowledge that at least you won't be painted white whilst you sleep. Reading it from someone else, it is on the funny side. However, having been there - still being there in fact - I know how exasperating it is when all you want to do is sleep or cry (or preferably a cathartic mix of both) but there's a toddler thinking it's all such a laugh!
  6. Thank you for the encouragement! I'm going to contact Annette and see what she says.
  7. I'm expecting twins (due in Septemeber) so I'm looking for a night nanny for some of the first days and weeks. Is this the kind of thing Annette Sawatzki does? And how expensive is she? Many thanks.
  8. Hi all, just to say that I'm watching this space and will try to involve myself in the campaign to keep the invaluable One O'Clock Club open. I for one really need it and never cease to be grateful that it's there. I was at the meeting with Renata on Wednesday so I know some of the issues, and I can also put a few names to faces thanks to everyone declaring who they are behind their forum pen-names. I should declare that I was the tall one on Renata's side of the playground fence! A neighbour of mine told me that she used to go to the One O'Clock Club as a kid, making it at least 30 years old. Does anyone know exactly how long it's been running? I know the one on Hampstead Heath was threatened with closure a few years back and saved thanks to a vociferous campaign. It is possible.
