I'm happy with Nunhead as long as it is near the park, It is where I live at the moment (Just off the Rye). I might be prepared to go up to 260 for a very lovely 2 bed. EdKiwi, gloat you may but it really makes no difference, if you stay here in ED all that happens is you sell your flat have more equity and then put it down again.....and the winner is The Bank and The Estate Agent! If you sell up and go back to NZ then of course you have made a mint and thats great for you (but again my point was that the lovely family who then but your house end up losing out/overstretching/paying banks loads of money - The only people that lose is all of us) Some of you may take this as ramblings but I am all for being productive, earning money, having a good lifestyle but there is a balance that has to be found and an understanding that people are being sharked on everyday. If we have that knowledge then we have to help ourselves and others get out of the rut of debt and bank control. Then again maybe I'm wrong. The world is a perfect place, perfect in its imperfections.

There is a lot of stuff on the market for 250-270k via evil estate agents so do not think it is that unrealistic if buying without the estate agent fees and hassle etc..... Have you seen the lush 9 bedroom house on auction on Colyton Road......mmmmmmmm......praying for a national lottery win!

Thanks Bob that's a great idea

Its understandable though. Selling your first house is usually when you have a baby/small family and all you can think of is how you can support them over the coming years and so you want to sell for as much as someone can forgetting how hard it is to buy your first house. Like I said in a previous post the only winners are banks, estate agents and property investors. It's such a shame that we all make our lives so much harder by agreeing to play by the "market" rules which are a fabrication in order to benefit a few. Property prices should be capped. Anyway not to go off subject too much if anyone hears anything on the grapevine in the next few months or has suggestions let me know. Thanks

We may have lost the opportunity of buying our beautiful flat because of an estate agents erroneus claim to our land lady that they can sell it for 290k ( a two bedroom flat with no garden just off Peckham Rye) even though they told me 40k less than that when they came round and that they have nothing near that on there website........ So I am wondering if anyone is selling a nice victorian 2 bedroom flat who has no desire to give money to any estate agent. We will be looking to buy at the end of the summer/ or beginning at a push. The flat must be near a park (Peckham Rye, Dulwich Park etc..). Preferably with a nice sized loft that can be converted one day. If anyone has a flat of this description that they are happy to sell for 230-250k then please let me know. Thanks

Thanks Nic, Sorry I've been so busy with work and working until about 2/3am so getting up at 6 has been a none event. However after reading some interesting info about Kindney and liver regeneration I realised I have to get some idea of routine back. I will give you a shout on Monday evening if I can make it. Thanks

Festival Fair on Goose Green

I didn't go last year but is there a music/performance stage to host some of the ED sounds? -
Dany, apologies, re read my post and last bit could be deemed a bit arsy. Wasn't intended, I was just trying to admit to having less self control than I would like and not make everything I was trying to discuss irrelevant. :) Huguenot....thanks for the offer but I'm actually enjoying it. Having been brought up with a television and having it central in every room I've lived in its rather nice having a flat without it. x

Firstly no I don't have TV on computer. I just have one download a week that comes via a friends server. My point in various comments was, most people (not necessarily the people on this forum) will watch TV as their staple diet. My lifestyle is measured against no one really except for my own ideas of what it should be. The TV went because it was a distraction for me to acheieve what I should be achieving. My control mechanism was when things were getting tough instead of dealing with them there and then I would turn my brain off for a bit and come back to it later. Earning your own wealth is great have no problem with it but I do not feel that the current system works with regards to minimum standard of living/health for all. Giving ?50 to a kid from a council estate is an unthought out process and solves nothing. Even giving tax credits, the idea is great and in the right hands then they work but what about the people who won't spend it in the best way possible. Chucking money at people, communities, nations solves nothing, its just a tool, an energy that can be used or manipulated for a purpose. Stimulating peoples minds and allowing them freedom from a very young age (schools need to be more about teaching observation and thought rather than things like a shortened version of history which says all the bad things Hitler did but not the enormous F ups the British and every nation has always made massacaring people all over history). Dany, I have some self control but sometimes not....so I take some slightly more drastic measures. That does not mean that my observations are invalid or irrelevant, it just means I'm human, I make mistakes and I like the rest of us do what I can to rectify them and live a better life.

thanks. At least I still get battlestar galactica on download once a week

As a choice then, rather than living and finding something useful and fufiling to do you would choose to play games all day? (not judging just making an observation) I reckon that probably 80% of people in the UK might choose this too but what would happen if you didn't have enough electricity or even better you thought about how destructive a TV, video games etc is to communities. I've just got rid of my TV and at first I didn't know what to do with my rest time. Now I find more time to spend with my woman (which is of a higher quality), I went to 2 concerts last week, one classical, one rock n roll. I've seen some friends and I have had time to read and think about life. One week in and I feel better than I have done in years....... The point being that we live in a world where routine and a set of control mechanisms means we are caught in an unending cycle that is based on a flawed and outdated ideas. If everyone became inspired to spend more time outside, communicating, changing their life perspective then maybe people would choose not to buy multiple houses and create personal wealth but instead think more about community wealth and world wealth. I think this is happening at the moment and hopeful we will get there one day

Ahhh the fear that the banks create is powerful but they will lose there grip soon. And why not strive for peace and happiness.....are we all too jaded by "reality" to actually bother changing our own personal choices anymore. A crash is never going to happen as its not in anyone's interest and if it did so what...we consume less, live a bit more sensibly and within the means that the planet supplies and once we get over the fear that has been instilled in us from our many births maybe we might learn to live from our hearts more and appreciate the fact that we are here at all. (by the way this sounds a bit angry when written as the enthusiam can't be potrayed in a bit of text very well but actually I'm really inspired by life at the moment) Peace love and only buy one house each.....or if you have the money give a spare house to a friend that cannot afford it! lalala happy happy :))

Actually what needs to happen is a decision by every single person NOT to make money out of property anymore. If every person individually realised that they had the power to stop banks, building societies and each other making it harder to by property and make the rich/poor gap higher then what a wonderful and enlightened nation we would live in. I want to start a campaign to make it happen

I know quite a few less educated (if educated means degree or other paid means of education), underpaid, brilliant people (mostly artists, comedians and the like) in ED and peckham and they love it here. London is a great place because of its diversity. Admittedly a lot of the people that use this site (and that have moved into East Dulwich) are fairly well off, probably white and middle class but does that mean it's ruined the community. No, its just changed like everything does. Everyone I have met in this community (whatever social background) is generally very lovely. We all live in the same world and one day most of us have experienced being poor or rich (as this is a mind set rather than anything tangible). Sorry to be so hippie like but hey I love London.

Surma's more interesting food (e.g. the stuff he recommends) is always great. I can't believe that the Tikka Massala is the popular choice.....Anglofied Indian food should be banned........I want to start a campaign for Real Indian Food. Lots of yummy spices and garlic and chillies.....mmmmmmm....I making myself hungry -
I'm good for this. Think the first couple will kill me though. 6.30am will be a real shock to the system. I've been working from home for too long! When shall we start and what days shall we do. Will reply to PM's with email address and maybe we can go from there Jamie

Whereabouts on Peckham Rye? Thanks Jamie -
I need help. I'm unfit and want to sort it out but always get distracted by just about everything in order to not do much about it except for Yoga every week. I want to find a motivation partner who will help get me into shape by running me around the park and doing some other outdoor exercises. Ideally I want to be in enough shape to start doing a military fitness programme in a few weeks time. Can anyone help? I live just off Peckham Rye. Thank you

Does no one use FC Sopers in Nunhead? By far the best fish and really nice local business for 108 years or something.

After arriving 30 minutes late (due to getting lost) and dropping a sick woman in the middle of Stockwell late for an appointment the guy charged ?12 and left. On hearing this I phoned Panther cars and asked them to go and pick my girlfriend up again free of charge or at least give some of the money back for not providing the service that they were supposed to. I was told they would not do that and why should they. Having spent ?20 in two days with them this made me somewhat annoyed. I spoke to the guy that runs the business and as someone who runs a business too I thought he would understand that the service that was provided was not totally acceptable and that something should be done in respect to this. Response was a resounding I don't care. I believe in supporting local businesses but I also believe that ones that don't care about there customers should be named. Wish I'd booked an Addison Lee.

Does anyone know if there is anymore property available in Lordship Lane? I phoned the main commercial agent Hunter...... but they seem to think that all of the empty shops now have owners. Anyway of finding out? Thanks
