  1. LAST FEW HOURS! Still a bit of time left to pledge your support, grab a reward and help Little Village launch in Southwark. *Thank you* from all of us in the Little Village community. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/little-village-southwark
  2. LAST DAY! LAST DAY! LAST DAY! If you'd still like to pledge your support for Little Village Southwark and grab a reward then get in there quick because we close at 23.59 today. We're grateful for all donations - every little helps - and we still have some lovely rewards gifted by local businesses waiting to be snapped up! Huge thanks to the 187 supporters who have backed us so far and enabled us to raise ?6,598. The clock is tick tick ticking away, let's end on a high! Link below. 👊❤️💜 https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/little-village-southwark
  3. Hi everyone - our crowdfunder closes on Friday evening. Thanks to the amazing support we have received we have raised just over ?6000 - more than double our original target! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us to date. There is still a bit of time left to pledge and some fab rewards still waiting to be snapped up too, including a drawing by talented local artist Gill Day, a bike service from Rat Race Cycles in Nunhead, Goose is Out Tickets, drinks at the Ivy House and pizzas gifted by Picky Wops in Peckham Levels! Please support us if you're able to.
  4. Hello! Only 4 days left to go in Little Village's crowdfunder. We have raised an amazing ?5,675 so far from 165 supporters. Help us hit ?6,000 by Fri and double our original target! This is why: in Southwark, there are 8000 children under 5 living in poverty - more than 1 in 3 in the borough. And behind these figures are the real stories of families living alongside us - parents raising their kids in desperate circumstances. We see mums unable to pay for nappies and food for their children; babies sleeping on towels and broken beds; newborns living in rat-infested properties. We can't change everything, but we're a community looking after each other and together we can help do something about this. Please pledge your support and show your solidarity with other parents in the Little Village movement! We have plenty of fab rewards, all gifted by local businesses, up for grabs too. Thank you! https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/little-village-southwark
  5. Hi - we need to decorate and kit out our stock room first (hence the crowdfunder!) and then we'll be accepting donations of clothes and kit. We're hoping to be ready to accept donations in maybe 6-8 weeks. If you haven't done so already, do join our FB group (Little Village - Southwark) and/or follow us on Twitter @LittleVillageSK as we'll be posting updates on there re donations.
  6. Little Village (registered charity number 1169735) is coming to Southwark! We're a team of local parents and volunteers launching Little Village in Southwark, where there are over 8,000 children under 5 living in poverty - that's more than 1 in 3 in the borough. We might not be able to change everything, but the service Little Village provides could provide a real lifeline to families who are raising children in very challenging circumstances. Little Village collects great quality donations of clothes and kit for babies and children up to the age of 5 from local families and gets these out to other families in the area who need them but can't afford to buy them, via friendly weekly drop-in sessions. We want to make it as easy as possible for families to support each other in a way that's social, sustainable and local. We need your help - the final countdown to the end of our crowdfunder is now ON! There's still time to pledge your support and show your solidarity with the other parents in the Little Village community, plus we've assembled a great range of rewards, all gifted by local businesses keen to support our launch in Peckham Rye. We have a new stretch target of ?5,250 and 10 days to hit it! Please support us if you can and help us spread the word too! https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/little-village-southwark https://littlevillagehq.org/ Thanks! If you'd like more info then we're contactable through the crowdfunder site or through the website, or feel free to DM me.
  7. Hi. Little Village is a registered charity - number 1169735. There is plenty of information on what Little Village does on our website, which is https://littlevillagehq.org/. Little Village has sites in Wandsworth and Camden, and we're launching a third site in Southwark. All 3 sites are part of the Little Village network. Little Village Wandsworth holds drop in sessions in a church hall, but we're not based out of churches and we're not affiliated with any religious group. Little Village Southwark will be based at the Ivy House in SE15 (of which I am one of the founders) and we have also secured extra storage behind the Ivy House. We want to make it as easy as possible for local families to support each other in a social and sustainable way. Little Village is a wonderful charity and will make a great contribution to our community. We'll be working with a network of referral partners (midwives, health visitors, social services, Southwark Foodbank) to ensure we reach the families who need us most. Our crowdfunder page has plenty of information on who we are and what we're doing, in addition to the photographs, including why we have decided to set up in Southwark, so we aren't simply asking people for money. This is a crowdfunder for a great local cause, like many others. If you don't want to pledge then that is fine, but we are totally legitimate and if you have any concerns then just message me and I would be happy to discuss our work further. We have received lots of support locally and already reached our initial crowdfunding target. Other ways of getting in touch: Twitter - @LittleVillageSK Facebook Group is Little Village - Southwark. My own email is [email protected] Thanks to everyone who has supported us so far, including the many local businesses who have donated rewards.
  8. Hi everyone. We're very excited to announce that Little Village Southwark's crowdfunder is now LIVE! Even more amazing is that in only a few days, we hit our first target and we're now working towards our stretch target. We've assembled a brilliant array of prizes, gifted by local businesses showing their support for Little Village as we get off the ground in SE15. Please follow the link and pledge whatever you can to help us launch. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/little-village-southwark/ There's no question that Little Village could play a vital role in Southwark, where 8,000 children under the age of 5 live in poverty - that's 1 in 3 kids. We might be not able to change everything, but our service could provide a real lifeline to families who are raising children in very challenging circumstances. Please make a pledge and show your solidarity with other parents in the Little Village community - let's do this!👍💜
  9. I'm part of a team of local volunteers working to launch the awesome Little Village in Southwark in early 2018. We'll be based in Peckham Rye. Little Village is like a food bank but for clothes, equipment and toys for babies and children up to the age of 5. We'll be collecting good quality donations from local families and getting these out to the families who need them via friendly weekly drop in sessions. We want to make it as easy as possible for families to support each other and we also want our donations to feel like gifts and not handouts. It's a way to strengthen our community and for us put kindness into action. Little Village really needs your votes in the Aviva Community Fund! This funding will help Little Village save 250 cots and buggies from landfill and ensure they are given out safe, clean and serviced to the local families who need them most. Please vote - it's free and only takes a couple of minutes. https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/voti?/project/?/17-5228 Little Village hears far too often about babies sleeping on towels and sofa cushions, toddlers in broken cots, and siblings and parents sharing dirty or broken mattresses. And many mums can't even visit drop-in sessions because they don't have a safe way of transporting their babies and toddlers. This is a problem we can do something about. If Little Village win this funding it will help to cover the costs of the new mattresses we give out with each and every cot, along with the costs of replacing minor parts, cleaning buggies, and transporting these bulky items to the families who need them. You can use all 10 of your votes on Little Village :) Please vote, and share, share, share this post in your own networks. Thank you! (and here's a two minute video to tell you why this work is so important...) Watch this space for more info on the launch of Little Village Southwark and check out our website: https://littlevillagehq.org/
  10. Hi - my son has been at Asquith since he as 8 months old (ie started in baby room) and he's now 3.5 and in the pre-school room. Overall, he has been happy and we have too. However, there was definitely a period of instability following the departure of the manager and various subsequent staff changes. That seems to have settled down now. The ladies in the pre-school room are great and my son really enjoys it. For us, the big downside is the cost. Eye watering.
  11. It looks brilliant. I have been having a peak while out running round the park. It's been there a while now - perhaps a few months. I wish they would unveil it for a bit so we could all see it, though maybe they are concerned about vandalism.
  12. Hi there I am one of the co-founder of the Ivy House and I am also a property lawyer. I haven't read the entire thread so apologies if I am repeating what others have already said. Without knowing all the details and not having seen the lease, it is likely that this is a business tenancy under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, which offers limited security of tenure to business tenants. If a landlord wants to end a business tenancy then he is required to serve a S25 notice and can only terminate the tenancy on grounds stated in the 1954 Act, including redevelopment. Strict notice periods apply. A S25 notice must give at least 6 months notice of termination and no more than 12 months. In addition to this, it cannot seek to terminate the lease before the contractual expiry date of the tenancy. I am happy to help if anyone wants to private message me.
  13. I still haven't been able to get through by phone so I filled in the online contact form. No response. It makes it very tricky when you're at work and can't get there in person. I have been with them for a number of years but never had much cause to use them until I had my son, who has forced me to interact with them a bit more. They have always been OK when I have actually spoken to someone, but getting to do so is practically impossible.
  14. Someone from the centre left me a message this morning telling me to call them back "urgently" about my son (who is well and in nursery today, no test results pending or anything). I have tried repeatedly to call back but my call just times out - no answering machine, not queue, nothing, it just rings and rings and then times out. I can't go down there because I am at work. I am irritated to say the very least. Have they just decided to close for the afternoon?! Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks
  15. They do a brilliant job. They did a great job with me when I broke my foot!
  16. Hi. We did indeed have some problems with food service at the Ivy House on Sunday and we're working hard with our chef and manager to ensure that they don't happen again. We're very sorry. *Anna27* and *AdaDoom*, a member of the Ivy House team will contact you personally by private message through this forum.
  17. Saw it in a shop on LL. Just adverts and property stuff, utterly pointless.
  18. *jimmyraj* I like your Mr Wooster quote! It's unfortunate that our attitude to our homes seems to involve viewing them as cash cows instead of, well, homes. And don't get me started on the smugness of some of my friends who bought in Peckham Rye back in about 2006 and have seen the value of their homes almost double in some cases, through no skill of their own, just by being able to buy at that time in that area. There are still some reasonably priced places around Nunhead if you're prepared to take on some work and live with dated decor for a while until you can afford to fix it.
  19. Very difficult space. Not enough natural light and the eating area at the back always felt very stuffy and lacking in character, so unless you managed to get a seat right up near the front it just wasn't that enjoyable.
  20. Not been there for ages but always found it to be pretty good value for money! They do need to keep on top of the website though. Still, good value and good mix of films, in my experience.
  21. I am horrified that the Police didn't consider it significant enough to pursue. I think you should go back to them on that. It sounds terrifying.
  22. *The Minkey* - Thanks for your feedback. We're really keen to establish a balance between families with young children and customers who don't have children with them. We're aware that this was a problem last weekend and we have requested that children be supervised by an adult at all times while in the pub, not least because this is in the interests of their own safety and the safety of our staff and other customers because staff are carrying hot food and drink around the pub. Our policy is that we very much welcome well supervised children up to 8pm, but we request that parents bare in mind that the Ivy House is a shared space. We have a very broad range of customers and they are all entitled to enjoy their visit. We have put notices up in the pub reflecting this policy and we have reiterated it on our facebook group. We will be monitoring the situation closely and trying to ensure we strike that balance and the pub can be enjoyed by all. We hope to welcome you back again soon!
