Sambless, that's lovely! I've watched it quite a few times over the last couple of days and am posting to local friends! -

Demo about lollipop people in East Dulwich (27th June)

David, I think it is the state infants and primaries in the Village that are the main beneficiaries, and would be the main losers. By secondary age, kids can look after themselves. (I walked 3 miles along country lanes without footpaths by the age of 9, and so did many others I know.) Agreed that any crossings attached to private schools should be paid for by them. After all, they charge people (e.g. a local charity) squillions for using their premises. -
Veronica, Peckham Rose would appear to be correct: there are no Chekhov plays held at any Southwark branch library according to Southwark's online catalogue. Most of the Chekhov items listed (stories etc.) seem to be described as 'not available at branches' or words to that effect, or located in the mysterious 'Peckham Store' (which is presumably not the Peckham Library). Then there's 'no availability records'.

There are some of these nuts living on my street In this particular case, I've found their actions to be greedy and irresponsible. Keep two large-capacity water pistols to hand. -

They are also targeting cars, and men have been the target in the past, though possibly these are different gangs. -
Whem I was a nipper, hanging out in the rat-infested fishpond kitchens of some war-zone kibbutz, I learned to chuck peeled onions into a bucket of cold water before chopping. (I chopped around eight buckets of them every morning in the main kitchen.) Does it reduce tearfulness? I believe it does, but I haven't conducted a proper study. Other life lessons learned at the time: lots of loud banging with pans will drive rats out of the place you want to go into; don't wait to *hear* the missile/rocket heading towards you as by then it will be far too late! etc. etc.

Yes, it's not about the headliners. Rarely have all the headliners been quite so crap though. I prefer the sub-10k festivals. Without lanyards or the rest of it. Roll on Glade (this weekend), the mutant offspring of Glastonbury.

They couldn't have arranged a more depressing line-up if they tried. I'd rather be standing at a bus stop in the rain at 3am in January eating a bag of cold chips.

Well, be thankful that it's not sub-machine gun wielding assassins, in a Stockwell stylee. WTF is going on in that neighbourhood? (Sometimes I'm thankful that the public transport is so crap for the short distance from there to here.)

Quite. You'll get something or other at that price, but not a nice place. Why not check out Crystal Palace? Excellent transport (now: ELL) and cheaper prices. Your money will go further.

Holloway (yes, that one) and a war zone with tanks. Edited to say that the most I ever managed to get out of my parents was child benefit till I was 18 (accommodation, education, books 'n' that being in short supply it seemed), so I fed, watered and clothed myself from working from 13, provided my own tent to live in during my education etc. etc. Which may explain why all I ever want to do - as an adult - is party.

I caught a couple of episodes on iplayer. It reminded me a bit of Clerks.

A much more interesting artist than Giggs... Katy B. Peckham's finest, in my books. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7DBJG8pdms&feature=related Great to see Rinse FM behind her too.

And while Fireman's Alley is no bad name, Snakes on a 'Lane has a certain ring to it. :) A pity it's so often frequented by teen robbers (mobiles, bikes)... but maybe no change there from the 19th century.
-
Fireman's Alley has a pronounced dog leg, with a gate into the park almost at the corner. It looks like Snake's Lane and Fireman's Alley coincide at the northern end; but then perhaps the path was relaid, from the park boundary, to follow the perimeter of the park at some point?

Car Horns on Lordship Lane Junction with Court Lane

There have, I think, been at least five sets of roadworks on this stretch in 12 months or so, 3 gas and 2 water. Most of them have gone on for several weeks, most have involved temporary lights, closure of one or t'other bus stop... The bus stops end up closed for longer than the works run, as they always seem to forget to take away the 'bus stop closed' signs once works have 'finished'. This is in addition to all the roadworks generated by the water leaks on the eastern side of the Lane, from Val's southwards, which also returned time and again as water spewed out of the original source, or a new one. The worst has been when on occasion we've had jackhammers starting at 10.30pm. No joke. I seem to recall the entire road was resurfaced just before all this happened. I'm thinking of moving to a building site: it may work out quieter. -
Hi panmum, On EDF, everything that is not ED goes in the lounge. Everything. You can find some previous posts on EDF about KICC in the area here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?27,469619,518496#msg-518496 Plenty of people read the Lounge posts, so need need to worry about people seeing this. I agree with you that KICC's latest move is of concern, given they seem to be trying to attract people from an extremely wide area. If they intend to occupy Crystal Palace Park on an ongoing basis... Perhaps a replacement for their failed bid for an 8,000-seater mega church? :'(

*Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What was the problem? Wrong colour? Crap information on the form, bad layout, bad grid... Info on there that shouldn't be (but is required by law), lack of info that should be (that would actually help the voter, but isn't required by law)... About 40-50 problems identified with the ballot at the time. (But then there are other ballots that have 100+ easily identifiable problems...) One issue with ballots is there is very little learning: many are first-time voters, the rest can't remember the last form. They need to be completely self-explanatory, and they need to be usable by absolutely all adults (so a much wider demographic than, say, bank cash machines).
