Strange goings on in ED/Peckham
ilondoner replied to ilondoner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I heard a rumour that the council was toying with the idea of bussing people in from West Dulwich - to give the area a more affluent look. -
Strange goings on in ED/Peckham

They were also cleaning up that strange open space in front of the library ? I still haven?t discover its purpose although its been there for at least ten years. Apart from the odd Sunday market, has it ever been put to any good use? -
Strange goings on in ED and Peckham this morning. Whilst travelling on the No 12 bus I couldn?t help noticing how clean the roads looked. Road sweepers were out in droves picking up litter, cleaning signs and washing down the pavement. I wondered what was going on, had I stumbled into an alternate universe? Then I remembered that the Olympic torch is on it?s way to Peckham. If only....

one reason why they might of thought it prudent to avoid East Dulwich/Peckham -
The last day of the Olympic Torch Relay is the 26th July, and it is coming through Southwark. The torch will be passing along our very own historic Peckham High Street at around 10.45am. let's hope it's not stolen.

Well if this is going to be a regular feature - can I suggest that we all put our best foot forward. We want to give a good impression of ED don't we?

Did anyone catch Lordship Lane on the News? A reporter was strolling about asking locals their opinion on the proposed reform to the House of Lords. Why East Dulwich, have we suddenly become a microcosm of London? Perhaps it?ll become an everyday feature ? And now for the word on the street.

Over the last couple of days windows, cars, bins, even next door?s cat have been covered with a thick layer of dust. There are about 5 houses on the road with scaffoldings outside and the dust has settled all along the road, making it difficult to be certain who is responsible. Not looking forward to spending my weekend washing down windows, bins and front door.

Burst water pipe on Barry road?
ilondoner replied to ilondoner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well done intexasatthe moment. I suppose I should have reported the problem when I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago. Wonder why it has taken the householder two weeks to get it sorted? I'm suprised that none of the immediate neighbours reported it. A sign of the times - no one wants to get involved. (me included) -
Last week I noticed water streaming across the pavement from a house in Barry road. A week later and the problem is still ongoing. Is this the result of a burst water pipe? If so why is it taking so long to fix.

Just read an interesting article in this week's edition of Newsweek, about a man in America who is renting out his life to complete strangers. He made $654.85 in a month. Trailer - $321.85 Backyard and barbecue $18 Spare room - $135 Pet dog $3 per hour. (apparently the dog is affectionate, can be taken for walks and will fetch ball or stick) Guitar $50 dollars a month Anyone interested in paying for the opportunity to work in my garden? I'm also thinking of renting out my neighbours cat for ?5 an hour. (Cannot be taken for walks, will refuse to fetch balls if thrown and will not chase mice, but will happily spend all day curled up on a wall.)

Just to prove that my head is no where near my or anyone else?s bottom. I will spend Saturday morning chasing small friendly dogs around Peckham common (waving my arms about and screeching at top of my voice so they'll know that I just want to play). Then I?ll head for the children?s playground, where I'll hog swings and slides for at least half an hour at a time, whilst small children (accompanied by sensible adults) wait patiently for their turn.

Puzzled (you?re not the only one) I am not a dog hater. In fact, I believe that I react with uncommon restraint when faced with unruly pets and their owners, or do I mean unruly owners and their pets. For example whilst out jogging I was charged at by a dog who then proceeded to dance around my feet barking, snapping and tugging at my tracksuit. The owner apologised ? by assuring me that his pet was still a puppy and just wanted to play. He called to his puppy (who totally ignored him) but made no attempt to restrain him. I smiled politely and proceeded on my way. (Not, I think, the actions of rabid dog hater.)

Aren't cats colour blind?

Rosie H didn't you offer to lend me your crossbow when I complained about stalker-cat? He must have read this forum because I haven't seen him since.

Body parts are not allowed in brown bins, they are for food waste only. Bin men will refuse to dispose of body parts and you could end up facing prosecution. The courts have been advised to show no mercy to those who flout recycling rules.

Whilst happy for the rest of humanity (and their pets) to use the park. I still reserve the right to moan when dogs crap on the grass and children between the ages of 4-6 run around the outdoor gym unsupervised. I'm sure the parents of said children would have plenty to say if unsupervised adults (any adult unaccompnied by a small child) entered the childrens' playground and hogged the swings and slides.

Went for my daily walk around Peckham Rye Common early Saturday morning and found it more stressful than usual. Lots of rubbish littering the grass, lots of dogs crapping on the grass (whilst their owners chatted on mobile phones or walked 30 yards ahead) and the outdoor gym was over-run with screaming toddlers climbing all over the equipment. Isn?t there an age limit for use of the outdoor gym? I felt it too dangerous to use some of the equipment whilst small children ran around unsupervised.

Why not? The first prize for the most original idea will be a brand new wheelie bin The second prize will be err..
-
This morning I passed a house in Barry road that had over a dozen wheelie bins (mixture of Green and blue) littering their driveway, some spilling out onto the pavement. (Shouldn?t blue and green bins be separated? Won't they start breeding if they're not?) My downstairs neighbour and I have elected to share bins; this should leave enough room for us to get to and from our front door. I'm sure life would be alot easier in ED if others follow suit. I suggest a new thread with tips on what to do with excess wheelie bins. i.e Rent it out as a spare room for the Olympics?

My sister who works at Barclay's Bank Peckham Rye told me this morning. Might head up that way at first sighting.

My colleague at work (a cat owner) says that cats often fall out with their owners and try to adopt new ones. He suggests totally ignoring stalker-cat, and eventually he will pick someone else. You've been warned. Jamster - your suggested water treatment sounds like a good idea.
