Bring your trunks, we will all be in the basement pool I guess? -

WHen I say he is there early morning - he's not there as early as his skip delivery truck which seems to arrive at 6.55am most days now. -
What's Happening on Crawthew Grove Project?

No newsletter, but the site manager (think he is called Jim) is around a lot - including early morning and he is quite happy to talk about the project. I just hope they get on with it and get the thing done. -
The Kiwi lady? Yes, they do a nice sausage roll, although I am not convinced it is as good as the ED Deli. That said, there is another stall on the market (further down towards the Londis, next to the posh bread stall) that does a very fine and rather large scotch egg and that will now be my guilty pleasure of choice on a Saturday now.

I'm asking you. You are posting here and I am open minded but I just find it hard to believe that the business model of cinema allows what is called the "LLW" when no other business that is consumer facing is LLW accredited. -

If I was 17 and collecting tickets in a cinema I would delighted with that wage. Like I say, which role in particular do you have the concern with? -

Alex K - such hard sell by the agents....a clear sign that market has softened? If the market was so good why do they need to push so hard to come to you? -

Buddug, what roles do the people earning ?7.24 have? Hard to believe they are the same people who are "stuck" at home as you mention. -
It is a shame, their sausage rolls were magnificent. But the place had been on the wane for a while and it had got a bit lazy. I think an equivalent, with some new blood and some new momentum in a smaller space would still do very well.

If you scroll up to the original post at the top of the page, the link still works. There was an article in the paper today "calling" the top of the market - interest rates are on the way up soon and that will have to cool things you would think. -

When you look at the list of those employers who have signed up to LLW, they are largely financial institutions (Goldman Sachs are there - good to know their employees aren't going poor) or public sector organisations. There are no retailers, restaurants or other leisure sector businesses. I assume (sorry, I didn't read the whole guidance) that to sign up you as a participating employer you need to pay all your employees this wage which in turn is calculated to "provide their family with the essentials of life, including a cushion against unforeseen events". Just don't see how this is even relevant for many of the likely staff at a cinema who are going to be students, part-time, second jobbers etc. It's a nonsense argument and the personal insults being thrown around to those who seemingly just want a new cinema opening in a largely unused building on our High Street are unacceptable. -

Ah the EDF, where else can you insult people you don't even know in the middle of the night for simply expressing their opinion. -

I agree SJ. The expectations are low for England, but I have a feeling we will do ok. I did the predictor thingo at the link below, to win the thing we may have to get past Spain, Argentina & Brazil. Not easy! http://games.espn.go.com/world-cup-bracket-predictor/2014/en/bracket

What's your agenda David? Why this project in particular and not the same challenge to the large number of other businesses that come on here to promote themselves before opening? -
A snip to put life back into tired legs. They swear by the stuff in rural Spain.

This theory suggests a credible second city would need to be 4m+ people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26472423 Think it loses an element of credibility by referencing US sitcom Frasier but there we go. So I take the points and my conclusion to this is invest heavily in Manchester as a new NW hub with Cambridge allowed to become a major City too.

"Birmingham, Manchester" Hard to say they really compete with London. Both B'ham and Manchester are still small compared to London and confined to some extent by 100s of years of history and old infrastructure. Much easier to let a smaller city like a Cambridge or Oxford grow unchecked. They are centres of lost of investment potential and R&D built around the world class academic institutions and they have attractive city centres that would also be good for tourism and leisure, not sure B'ham can claim that (I lived there for 3 years). I am no planning expert but there was a very interesting show about this on BBC2 a while back. The bloke from Dragons Den was hosting it and it made a lot of sense. You wouldn't need to build so many new houses in London if one or two other cities actually were attracting 100,000s of new residents. It won't happen, but it's an interesting theory.

We need a new 'mega city' that genuinely competes with London. Planning legislation stops the growth of attractive, affluent cities like Cambridge which could expand much further if allowed to. I'm london born and bred and can't imagine living anywhere else....but we need an alternative City that sucks in people and investment, we are too London-centric right now. We will have to give up green belt though which is the current stumbling block.

London Bridge - new platforms, same old problems
SteveUK1978 replied to BrandNewGuy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is going to be some time till 15 is wider - not till they open the new main entrance I think? It's a fair point...if there is a problem, there aren't many places to go if the train is there and the bunch has formed at the end of the platform. -
Also, where is the ball in the first photo? Would be a good one for a spot the ball competition.

Great pictures - didn't realise the main stand was quite so large back in the day, thanks for posting.
