ED for Mums and toddlers during the week
scareyt replied to McKenna's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi! There is lots going on, loads of classes and thing but no soft play. If you post on here looking for playfates once you?ve moved you should get lots of responses. There is no soft play though, nearest ones are pavkham pulse, Brixton Rec or a little soft play cafe in Herne Hill. Have a look on ED Tots for classes. Good luck with the move! -
Is there a kids chess club in the area?
scareyt replied to Jamma's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I know someone who goes to the one in the Baptist church on Tuesdays and they love it. -
Spoon feeding or baby led weaning????
scareyt replied to sam&pat's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would say do whatever?s easiest and don?t stress about the technique, but introduce each new food gradually. My son developed excema after he started solids but because I?d been giving him lots of different things I never figured out what caused it. If you go slowly you could spot any issues with reactions to a particular food straight away. -
Actually I was misremembering, it?s Skiathos that has the tiny airport. We did a sailing holiday years ago that started and finished in Skiathos and all the islands we visited were lovely.

Alonnisos is lovely. Teeny tiny airport and you can be in a taverna by the harbour about 5 minutes after getting off your plane.

Yes! We did the adventure playground for a 6th birthday and the kids loved it, it was stress free because it didn?t matter how many people turned up and we could invite everyone we wanted to.
-
Trampoline park? There's one in Wandsorth & one in Croydon. Stessful to organise as you pay per child but good wit ha small group and the kids love it. Or Go Ape in Battersea Park.

Mum and Daughter exercise options?
scareyt replied to nunheadmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This family boxing class in the boxing gym underneath the Dulwich Hamlet stadium is great. Its a real mix of ages but each of you gets paired with someone roughly your own size. http://www.mindovermatterboxing.co.uk/timetable.html -
Advice Needed - Getting toddler to sleep in her own bed
scareyt replied to louise.flynn's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would echo growlybear?s comment. As long as there is enough space and you can get back to sleep comfortably with her there I wouldn?t worry about it. My son age 7 very occasionally still comes into our bed if he?s had a bad dream. I don?t sleep well when he?s there so I just go sleep in his bed instead. My husband gets a surprise in the morning when he wakes up to a different face next to him but we all get enough sleep and nothing else really matters. -
Based on having been through the process and spent a lot of money on baby & toddler swimming lessons, I would recommend just going swimming together when you feel like it for now and not bothering with lessons until 4 or 5. Looking back, swimming lessons for that age are a huge faff and money burner and they are too young to actually learn how to swim at that age from a half hour group lesson once a week. Apologies if this is a highly irritating response, but I do wish in retrospect I?d saved myself the faff and expense!

Hi Midivydale, I just wanted to recommend the lovely hypnotherapist Christine Neilands for help with resolving trauma and fears. She has helped me move on from some very old trauma as well as more recent and entirely rational medical fears and it's not exaggerating to say she has completely changed my life. Her charges are not cheap but you only need a couple of sessions and what she does is much quicker and more profound than counselling. I had similar reservations to you - the things I am scared of are real so how can I stop being scared of them - but she helped me so much.

Iron supplements, exercise and then going to bed ridiculously early at the weekend help me. I went to bed at 9 on Saturday and 8:30 on Sunday. It feels like a treat and the benefits last for days.

Bessemer is great - loads of outside space, great leadership team, lovely nature garden and its not near any main roads so the air quality is good (for Southwark!). But I agree distance is the most important thing. When we leave for school in the morning there are 5 or 6 other families from the same road heading to the same school at the same time which is really nice. We're a 10 minute walk or three minute cycle from Bessemer and I wouldn't swap that for anything else either.

Looking to hire a big child friendly house for ~20+
scareyt replied to lockers's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've stayed here with my family for Christmas twice and it was lovely - not too many nick nacks, sofas you aren't worried about being jumped on, but everything clean and nice and comfortable. https://www.mulberrycottages.com/cottage/holiday-cottages-in-kent/18201-great-higham-barn-complex/ We didn't use the pool and I don't know if it's heated but we did use the hot tub which was great. Or if you want to go a bit further, Peak Venues in the Peak District have lots of lovely converted pubs that sleep huge numbers of people and they're done up really nicely - not too fussy but fresh and modern and comfortable. We went to look at a couple of their places this summer and were very impressed. I have a big family and we hire a huge house every other Christmas so I've spent ages looking for nice child friendly houses that sleep lots of people. Have fun! -
Injury to a child in Sunray Gardens
scareyt replied to kthernehill's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The one I?m thinking of is the one into the fenced off green area opposite the playground. Kids run from the playground to the green, the first one swings open the gate and then it rebounds really hard at 5yo head height into the second kid running through. It?s horrible and a few of us have complained and had no response. I?ve padded the worst bit that slicks out like a weapon but it?s still dangerous. Good idea to try James Barber, it?s not his patch but he might be able to alert the person who does cover it. -

My friend?s daughter was injured by that gate a few months ago and had to go to Kings for stitches. She has a scar from it on her forehead. If you PM me your email address I?ll forward it to her and see if she wants to get in touch. I?ve recently padded the worst bit of the gate with foam and gaffer tape to hopefully prevent another small child having their head sliced open by it. She complained to the council at the time but had no response. -
My MIL has an induction job and I hate it. It?s fiddly to change the temp and doesn?t feel ?real? to me. I want to turn a dial and instantly see a flame react rather than pressing buttons and guessing. I would play with one switched on before you choose to make sure it won?t annoy you.

Any recent experiences with Legoland?
scareyt replied to Saffron's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Are you doing 2 days? If so I?d say don?t bother with the queue jump thing. On the first day you can just wonder round, see stuff like mini land and do the lamer rides and suss out what you want to do on day two and where the big queues are. In day two, get there before it opens and as soon as they open the gates run across the park to Atlantis and the driving school and you can get straight on. Sounds stressful but it?s fun spread over two days like that. First day taking it easy and the second day feeling like pros. I expected to hate it but had a really good time. -
I have a vitamix which is similar. I go through phases of using it loads and forgetting about it for a while. It's good for soup and for whipping cream in seconds.

It's hot. Kids bedtime ideas to cool down?
scareyt replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yikes! But with one of those freezer block things that you put in cool boxes there would be no danger.
