I've been caught out by this and paid it, begrudgingly. I rarely drive around there and wasn't aware of the restrictions. I think if Southwark genuinely wanted people not to get fined they'd put a clear warning on the entrance to the roundabout rather than one you might see only when you're committed (or don't see at all because you're concentrating on the road.

It is a shame. Good that a fruit a veg shop is stepping in.

Let's see if the old bill can be arsed to investigate. If that bike has been stolen and the theft is reported to the police hopefully someone will join up the dots.

Yes definitely innocent and not suspicious in any way. I expect they work for a charity and doing up old bikes for the NHS or orphans. I expect that probably people leave them to pick up chained to lamp posts. FFS. Good post.

Yes. But the onus was all on me to contact the seller, pretend to buy it and hope that then the police would come with me. By then the insurance had paid out so not really worth taking the risk.

I'd have gone with the police. But they were too concerned about accusing someone of stealing. They couldn't seem to comprehend I'd recognise my own bike. It was at the height of lockdown too and I think the police were already swamped.

It was a fake identity so they probably change accounts regularly. The police took a lot of convincing I knew it was 100% my bike. Right colour, special edition Brompton and I'd changed the saddle and grips. Shpock keep the seller identity secret so the police said they put a crime request in to them (never heard back with a result of this). I also contacted Shpock as a matter of urgency. Someone replied a few months later but I was so fed up by lack of action by anyone I'd given up. My home insurance paid out very quickly.

My bike was for sale on Shpock. The police did bugger-all except provide a crime number.

Make sure all bikes are insured. In my experience the chances of getting one back Is pretty slim.

Hopefully the thieves will need a bit of NHS treatment at some point.

Sorry to hear this. I had some stolen this year and know the feeling too well. Could you tell us what sort of bike shed it is? I'm thinking about getting one but not 100% convinced of their security. Are your bikes insured?

Rye Lane has always been a bit of a nightmare for cyclists as pedestrians tend not to look where they're going at the best of times. It's just a free for all now of people meandering all over the road. I think best avoided completely as a cycle route.

And make sure they are insured too as it seems no shed is really safe.

Hmmm Thanks for this. I was also thinking about getting one of these (your post has made me think twice). I think bikes probably need to be securely chained to anchor points inside the shed. With some home alarm systems you can also add a sensor to the bike shed. Does anyone have a Brighton Bike Shed. I was put off as they are made of wood.

How do you know it's not working class theft?

I don't give a toss about flowers but I do agree it's characterless.. Particularly if empty.

Best thing would be demolish and start again. I don't know how these terrible buildings got past planning. I think they may have been hoping the people behind would want to sell some of their garden (which they didn't).
