  1. I can't see why we can't live in an "international" city and aspire to have less air pollution. Other international cities seem to manage it. It shouldn't be a question of well if you want to use planes then you have to put up with being woken up at 4.30am. There are a number of long term solutions e.g. the thames estuary plan and I'm sure that there are a number of short term solutions such as less reliance on Heathrow and varying routing etc. I don't see this as NIMBYISM as it is a london problem
  2. Why can't we have cheap flights that don't fly over heavily populated areas?
  3. But isn't the expansion to cope with (and also to make Heathrow more attractive to ) International transit travellers which makes more money for BAA et al. I'm sure that if it was just people going on holiday it wouldn't be quite so bad. Obviously, there is a downside to (i) being an international city and (ii) being able to travel abroad but that doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't give a rat's a*se about the consequences of this. For example, flight paths should avoid (where possible) densely populated areas which includes rich and poorer areas. This isn't NIMBYISM its about making sure that the quality of life of londoners isn't slowly eroded further. It's important that the interest of londoners be taken into account when considering the heathrow expansion
  4. Thanks for the post I think the noise is worse than SW london although it may be worse cause I'm on top of a hill. I think you get used to it but its still v loud and seems to go on all day (save for about 4 hours in the night). People who stay really notice the noise. I can't believe it is going to get worse.
  5. There is something at the end: "A proposed ? but not so far approved ? spur from near Surrey Quays on to an existing route in south London would take East London trains to Clapham Junction, in south-west London, and complete a ring of such routes around the capital." Not good news though
  6. Isn't this project still unfunded? The chances of the funding being raised and line extended by 2010 seem v slim. Sounds like newspaper talk; there is nothing about this on any of the official websites
  7. Katherine Down adminsters the keys. I think the address is 110 Grove Park
  8. Since when has Footie been a middle class badge of honour??
  9. So is this place good for Footie? Are they switching the sound on now?? I'm keen to watch the might spurs continue their rapid rise up the table.....
  10. Looking at the tube map it always amazes what a rubbish deal south london gets in terms of tube links. Why is that? Also, I know I've posted on this before but Southwark is looking for support with the current ELL to peckham rye and denmark hill (presumably because we are going to lose this aswell) so check out the website http://www.southwark.gov.uk/YourServices/transport/ELLX.html and register your support
  11. It has a nandos though
  12. Its supposed to be although it might have moved to peckham by then
  13. That's better. Now we can all go and support Hoopers in East Dulwich with their party on Sunday
  14. I do live in camberwell and I'm not sure why you think I'd be bothered by that. As someone said earlier on this thread, people often illustrate where they live by their closest station. It's where I tell cabbies. Seriously, harrasing people about postcodes isn't going to make camberwell a more attractive place to live for you. You really do have a big chip on your shoulder about Camberwell. You should try and relax a bit more
  15. You've lost me?
