  1. ...please, please, please would you let the local authority know that you no longer require your state school space, if you applied. The Southwark Schools Admissions Team can be contacted at ... [email protected] And the Lewisham Team can be contacted at ... [email protected] Thank you very much! Chocky (twin boys on the waiting list for all 6 of our choices!)
  2. If you believe that local authorities should be given back the power to open new schools and you want a good quality school place for all our children, please support this campaign... http://www.theschoolplacescrisis.com/
  3. RIP Nelson Mandela. What a privilege to have lived when this great man lived. I hope his legacy can continue in all of us. Hope Not Hate have opened a book of condolence which will be open for five days and then be delivered to the South African Embassy. What does Nelson Mandela mean to you? http://action.hopenothate.org.uk/mandela-tribute
  4. Hi Otta I'd recommend the guidance materials published by ACAS. They publish a statutory Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures in the workplace - http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2174 They also publish more detailed guidance with practical examples- The ACAS Guide - http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2179 Both documents can assist employers and employees in making sure that they follow correct procedures when dealing with disciplinary matters.
  5. Well done, Mrs C for posting this. I had been meaning to start a thread and make the same suggestion. I have two boys starting the nursery from September, one in class 1, the other in class 2, and would love to arrange a pre September play date / coffee or two. I'll PM my contact details. x
  6. I have twin boys, approaching 4. They exhaust and delight me in equal measure. True they are noisy, they bang, they wrestle, they have a stick and stone obsession. But they are loving and caring, look out for younger children in the playground and have a wonderful sensitive side. One loves to dress up in mummy's shoes and scarves and even advises mummy on what to wear. The other loves to play with my jewellery. Both were beside themselves when my sister brought out her 1970s Fisher Price Dolls House! I was brought up in a predominantly female household and was delighted to find out that I was expecting boys, so my experience and expectations are quite different, but I agree with earlier posts that there's no need to worry. Many of my male friends have brothers and no sisters, they have enviously close relationships and they dote on their mothers, so you have lots to look forward to!
  7. We've found a super source for names labels on ebay. The labels are adhesive and washable and very cheap so we put them on everything from coats to pants! The seller is called n4u-online-shop, I've put a link to their labels below. We buy the "peel and stick" ones, but there are iron-on ones too. I can't sew to save my life and rarely get the iron out so this was a great find for us. http://bit.ly/10YbJPw
  8. I agree with you, MsMaz. I'm in a black spot too. I want my children to walk to their primary school. I don't drive so we'd have to take 2 buses to the Dulwich Hospital site. And I want them to live within a reasonable distance to most of their school friends. If all primaries used nodal points e.g. by stretching their catchment towards black spots and away from overlapping catchments, to create a jigsaw, then it might work. Those in black spots might get their children into nearer schools. But for one school to use nodal points and the rest to use circular catchments which overlap with other schools' catchments, isn't really a viable solution to the primary place shortage.
  9. I attended too and the previous post is an accurate account of the meeting; although I didn't get the impression that the site had been "confirmed". Dulwich Hospital was cited as the preferred site but Harris Federation said that they didn't expect to be able to confirm the site until October 2013.

Someone, kindly, has managed to put a hefty slab of stone in the fountain so even the tiddlers will be able to get out.
  11. Are there any frog experts out there? We saw frogs and froglets in the Sexby Gardens fountain in Peckham Rye Park on Sunday. Worried that the fountain wall is too steep for them to get out. I've emailed Southwark Parks and Friends of Peckham Rye but no reponse.
  12. Oh thanks, Smiler. Yes he's fine now. Swollen and a bit sore and he'll definitely have a black eye. Just so grateful to the other parents who helped me out.
  13. I want to say thank you so much to the lovely mum and to the lovely dad who helped me at Goose Green playground today when my (almost 3 year old) son fell 6 feet from the wooden climbing frame onto his face. You both offered support and advice and tried to order me a taxi to A&E. Our taxi came quickly and we were seen relatively quickly at Kings. No concussion, no loose teeth and only minor abrasions and indentations from the rubber matting (not a flap of skin as we suspected!). Your support kept me grounded and focused and helped me to deal with one toddler in shock and one excited twin brother. Thank you, thank you!
