Deansgate??? Pah - disgusting hovel of an arse frequented by flash tits. Hit the Northern Quarter, atomsphere, individuality and good banter.

Fortunately, in Britain, we > dont have the death penalty even if we get such > "reasonable" people serving on juries. I agree with some of your points here but I think you undermine your rant hugely by saying Forum members would be racist when on jury service. Can you point me to some researched facts as I had a look for some to support my view that the media is bias but couldn't find any.
  5. I do worry > that we're so sensitive to racism (a fear of > recognising prejudice within ourselves perhaps?) > that we cry foul at the drop of a hat. Hopefully we would agree that this is preferable states of affair to the other end of the scale, but a happy medium would be welcome.

After re-reading the articule I think the above is a huge overeaction. The article quotes someone who has written on facebook that they think the police didn't prioritise this case relatively when compared with different skin colours. It also quotes the police refuting the claims it dismissed this one as a runaway and they were looking into it. It also says that Tessa Jowell is looking into the issue. So I don't see where the above has come from at all.

Who do you think has done the above? I am assuming it isn't anyone on this thread. If you talking about this thread then the above is entirely disportionate to what has been said.

I completely agree with you. I don't see it in everything, I see it in how the media reports/prioritises these kind of events.

It's easy to dismiss when the alternatives aren't palatable. You stay in your little bubble where everything is equal and there couldn't possible be any discrimination based on race or class. It wouldn't happen in this day and age would it?

  12. Great news that she has been found alive and well. I've been reading into so-called "White Woman Syndrome" and there has been a host of studies on the topic which suggest that media sensationalise cases when the woman is white and or attractive and don't in the same way when they are Men, Unattractive, or Black. I found this formula in the comments box of some blog post which doesn't say much but I think it sums up the feeling of some (including me) on this topic. Stewart (2004), came up with a formula to describe the syndrome, Y (minutes of media exposure) = Family Income x (Abductee Attractiveness + Skin Color)+ (Length of Abduction x Media Savvy of Grieving Parents) I don't think you can be so dismissive that race or class have an impact in the extent to which news reports missing people. Perhaps it isn't relevant in this case, and as Hugenot points out there were very differing scenario's on offer.
  13. hibbs Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I heard this case mentioned on the news on Capital > radio this afternoon. The point is the coverage is much less than than other cases that involve middle class white women; not that there is no mention of it at all.
  14. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sorry, but you're being a conspiracy theorist. Why is it a conspiracy theory..... I'd never heard of this case and I read a paper most days and look at online news for 30 mins. Compare that to the missing girl Jo Yeates who was on every front page for days. The papers liked her case because they were white middle class, they don't go for stories that don't fit that demographic.

Papers will hype news items that will sell more papers; and white middle class dead or missing children will sell more than anyone else. Do you think papers and TV actually cover these things in the hope of finding the kids?

  22. I am not suprised they are taking action. He is saying they killed their child or disposed of the body when she died accidentally. It would be pretty odd if they didn't sue given they haven't been convicted of anything. I was aware that British police were assisting the investigation at the time from the mainstream media. I seem to remember there being friction between the two parties. Don't really know what I think about the whole thing. Your listed blog is also accredited on the site as a help so I doubt it is impartial. Would like know more about the facts so will have a look into it. Sue - do you think they killed her?
  23. Just Presitged on COD Black Ops - first time ever. Bit of an anticlimax. I now feel the pressure to perform ever greater.

They have had 1 complaint in three years and other posters have said it encourages them to remember to bring an alternative.
  25. I think the email from the Op to G&B makes him/her look like a bit of a t1t and whilst I neither agree with your bag policy or the tone of some of the email you wrote I think bravo for sticking to your guns and not acquiescing to his pointless, inflammatory email. OP - If you had a genuine issue why not just send a normal complaint.
