  5. Many large companies use a specific provider for such services, known as employee assistance programmes (EAS)often provided by benefits providers or healthcare providers. We use Healthshield at work. There is an annual cost to the employer based on number of employees but this means the service is free to the employee. The assistance programme covers life changes, money worries, health, addiction and is confidential. The EAS can provide couselling or advice to the employee as to where they can get help next steps.

  9. Yes pop it in a casserole pot with lid on and the bacon on the breast - they don't take long to cook as they are small less than an hour- just check it like you would a chicken. You'll end up with some fat in the bottom of the pot which is yellow in appearance, this is perfectly normal. Now you've made me want a pheasant for Boxing Day
  10. If this post isn't a p1ss take. You should ask for a hen pheasant as they have more meat on them. You'll need to roast in a pot with streaky bacon over the breast otherwise it's dry as anything. Never had lead shot in venison either - usually shot one bullet to head or heart with a rifle. Also very healthy meat, low in cholesterol than other red meat. Lead shot is common in partridge and grouse.
  11. Here issome more information Concerns are being raised that with residential flats being built then Canavans may no longer be able to operate. Rather like the earlier fears over the Development next to the Bussey building http://peckhampeculiar.tumblr.com/search/Canavan
  12. Another recommendation for Saied - he came for the day to prepare our garden for winter - mowed, moved herbs as requested and planted beans and garlic. Offered advice for the winter months. Planted some. Bulbs for spring and gave us a pre-christmas discount. He's the only man for. Our garden Thanks Saied
  13. I assumed as this is a local forum and Rosie's had been mentioned I didn't need to give precise directions. It's Nigel road down from the Rye pub as if you were traveling onto Rye lane. Same area as Peddler, Rosie's, KFH, the White Horse etc Assuming this is SE15 so Peckham but it might be SE22
  14. Mr Bao (opposite Rosie's cafe) will be open in 2-3 weeks
  15. Copenhagan It's got a great vibe, lots to don, good food you can go to Sweden from there as well.

  17. Hi I received an email from Copeland Park advising of a residential conversion. Please consider this application the impact it will have on the events at the Bussey building, forza Win, the Nines etc and if you object please make your voice heard. I have copied the email I received details below: The Copeland/Bussey community that is blossoming is under threat! There is a proposal for a residential conversion happening on our doorstep which will have devastatingly affects to the 150 businesses on site. As individuals and businesses that are tenants, market traders, and those who have been looking for studios at Copeland Park/Bussey Building, please take the time to read the following and contact the Southwark council to voice your objections. We kindly urge you to take a moment to do this and will be forever grateful. ........ As you might have seen there is an application to turn the current commercial building at 133 Rye Lane into a new development encompassing residential flats. A number of issues have been raised about this proposed development, some of which are listed below. The full details of the planning application for the development of 133 Rye Lane is available on the Council's website here: http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9562425 If you are concerned about this proposed development then the best course of action is to contact Southwark Council ideally by 18th November to have your views officially taken consideration before the decision date, responses which arrived after this date will be noted however may not have the same impact as those which arrive before the end of the formal consultation. The best way to contact Southwark Council is via the planning application website: http://planbuild.southwark.gov.uk:8190/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9562425 Below is a template comment which can be put on the Councils website, please take the moment to do this and ideally make it as personal and about your situation as possible, using the below template as a guideline. (Please pick and replace this sentence with a couple of reasons for objection from the list below, choosing only the ones which you think will most affect you) ------ RE: Planning Application 15/AP/3666 - 133 Rye Lane I am a local resident and/or small business owner near to 133 Rye Lane and I wish to respond to planning application 15/AP/3666. Having looked at the content of the application it is clear to me that the proposals would have a negative impact on the Peckham area, and I therefore wish to object to the planning application for the following reasons: HOUSING & EFFECT ON BUSINESSES: I believe that the conversion of commercial premises to housing in this central Rye Lane location will have a detrimental effect on Copeland Park and its commercial uses and therefore harm the economic regeneration which is taking place along Rye Lane and Peckham, in particular it could harm the night-time economic activity in central Peckham. ACOUSTICS: The proposal includes for some work to try to reduce the noise issues, not only from the businesses and night time economy but also from the railway. It is not clear from their proposal if the intended acoustic work will be effective so as to reduce the level of noise within the flats and is also only designed to reach minimum noise standards. Effectively the flats will not have natural ventilation and they will rely on a high level of mechanical ventilation. I am concerned that the minimum level of noise protection will not prevent future residents from seeking to complain about existing uses in the nearby area. In addition even with the proposed acoustic mitigation works I consider that the living standards within the flats would be detrimental to the occupiers mental well-being. HERITAGE: The important heritage uses and architecture of the building, and the effects of the proposals on them. 133 Rye Lane is within the Townscape Heritage area of Rye Lane. These additional storeys will be visible from the railway, the station platforms and the surrounding streets. I do not feel that the design does justice to the Townscape Heritage Area of Rye Lane. OVER DEVELOPMENT AND HIGH DENSITIES: The proposed development will see an increase in the size of the building. I feel that creating two basements in place of a shallow one, and adding two floors to the top is over development together with a habitable room densities which are far above the Mayor of London's guidelines. EFFECT OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS: I am concerned that the building works for the proposed development will have a negative impact on the businesses around 133 and I would suggest that all action is taken so that it doesn't damage the business and commercial viability during any construction. USE OF BASEMENTS FOR COMMUNITY USES: The proposal suggests that the community use on the upper floors is detrimental as it is located in areas with no natural light or ventilation. However the proposal moves the community use to the basement floors with no natural light and mechanical ventilation, so there is no additional benefit in locating the community uses to below ground level. It is for these reasons that I wish to OBJECT to planning application 15/AP/3666. ............................ There is also a change.org petition which you can sign which will strengthen the objections. https://www.change.org/p/shanali-counsell-southwark-planning-object-to-plans-for-housing-development-at-133-rye-lane-gateway-to-the-bussey-building?recruiter=424554578&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=autopublish&utm_term=mob-xs-share_petition-reason_msg Thank you for your support Copeland Park/Bussey Building
  18. It would be interesting to know what the percentage they gave to charity - was anyone told when they donated/part exchanged an item how much went to the charity. I'm assuming they weren't registered with the charities commission as they weren't a charity themselves but a ltd company. You'd think they would have made the information easy to find on their website - maybe that would have brought in more customers/donations and kept it going. Edited - I've had a look at their website properly, my understanding is this : They sold 3 types of things: 1. New items (candles/frames) items had ?1 added to the retail price which went to charity 2. Donated items 100% of retail went to charity (good news) 3. Part ex items - individual comes in sell their items - if sold the individual receives 50% credit voucher to spend in store - this is net after tax and they quote this equates to 33% off the gross retail value. No mention of any donation to charity. This is a great business model.. Push the charity side which i feel is very limited to get people in who feel like they are doing their bit. The majority of your stock is brought to you - you have no outlay from sourcing or purchasing stock (bar the limited new stock. If anyone has asked you to sell on their behalf - you still don't have an outlay as you never give the cash just give them 'credit' which = a discount on the stock you've got for free. At no point do need to state how much is being donated to charity as a result of the donated items and new item levy. Unless there is a clear donation to charity listed in the report & accounts on the Companies House website. It doesn't appear to be as clear cut as popping into your usual charity shop. I wonder if like 'regular'charity shops they received a reduced business rates/rent The only failing of this model I ca see and was probably their downfall Is that you have to rely on is customers buying up your stock on a regular basis and many people won't buy second hand clothing ( or the new phrase Pre-loved ) as there is a perceived stigma attached. Which is a shame as you ca get some amazing things second hand ( as my waldrobe, flat and garden can attest too). * excuse my spelling
  19. There is a shop in crofton park called pandemonium that will sell your high end clothing and accessories for a fee
  20. Just been to white horse - they have a pool table and darts and a pint of cider and an ale came to ?7.35! Nice people too. Unfortunately no tv so we've gone to the Rye to watch the rugby - same round cost ?10.45 and all the tables in front have been reserved which is a shame but I can understand why they have done it Will be back to the white horse when the rugby is done
  21. The white horse in Nigel road is openning this Friday. Owned by the same group as the Montpelier and Edwin's resturant
  22. Thanks James for the information. I shall use the brown bin from now on. I'll decline the tour thanks though.
  23. Callie I do the same as you - food waste in carrier bags in the green bin. Growing up the country I was always told never to compost meat products and food waste unless it was veg/fruit so I do wonder what happens with the contents of the brown bin. I have little food waste as I freeze everything if I think I'm not going to use it in time ( cheese is freezable too, grate it for ease). I also only bin stuff that's gone furry or rotten and ignore sell by/use by dates. So far haven't poisoned myself or anyone else (yet) :-)& have very little food waste.
  24. I use black bin bags and carrier bags to put my general waste in the bin without any issue. They go in the green coloured bin. I put garden waste in the brown bin directly and don't use any firm of bag. All recycling goes in the blue one. Bin men seem to be happy
