attempted muggging (in the Unicorn, Rye Lane) - Lounged
Sazzle30 replied to JohnL's topic in The Lounge
Peckham has been fine to me at night (I?m a 30 something female who feels perfectly safe heading home alone during the day or v late at night after being out.)Lived there 5 years now after moving from East Dulwich (which my mum refers to as East DULLwich as she found it boring, she loves going down the lane and getting cocktails from Peckham Springs and Bar Story we?ve even staggered home at 11pm alone - she?s from Wiltshire so her first trip to Peckham was an eye opener or her! ) Agree the lane doesn?t look great but there are lots of good places to eat. Admittedly you have to look for them. Try the restaurants on the triangle (Nigel road) bus stop - Peddler, Bahn Bahn etc and the White Horse is a great pub which although gentrified still managed to keep its regulars and attract the gentrification crowd. Peckham has changed a lot in the last 5 years I?ve been here. Perhaps start with going for Sunday lunch? I can recommend Forza Win for amazing Italian food which is great on a Sunday. Agree their could be more Indian restaurants (but I?ll go back to ED for them). Although there is Asian Take & Away under the arches at Peckham rye station (right hand side as you come from ED) - they make their own naans and the curry is great and cheap as chips The Motown coffee man in the starvation is a legend and does great coffee -
I?ve had 3 black cabs in succession refuse to take me to Peckham when I worked in Paddington. One that subsequently yelled at me as my road wasn?t part of the knowledge and he?d ?done his bit getting me to Peckham Rye.? Risked another cab last month and he assured me my road is on the knowledge as it?s next or the Aquarius golf course. I tend to use Uber now

Dare someone to ask Jenny?s for a portion of fried orphans dipped in crack ... -
The Jam on the Rye festival on Monday had discounted tickets for locals ?20 - all you needed was to bring proof of address. I went on Monday and it was a nice vibe not too big. We left Before 10pm and couldn?t hear anything when we got home (we love on Cheltenham road next to the park). Will definitely go again. The festivals are two days of the year and don?t take over the entire park, and I believe this falls over half term so any late nights for kids on those days can?t be too bad. I fully support them being run

Cattery recommendation? Cats + building work worries
Sazzle30 replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I had floors laid in our flat and the work too 4 weeks. Cfer cat was restricted to our kitchen with access to the outside (& all the living room/ bedroom furniture. She had food and water and the builder ( a fellow cat fan) was banned from the kitchen (left him the kettle etc in the living room). We were back every night and she was fussed over and she was fine, might have helped with the dreamies we gave her ever night. When we had the kitchen and bathroom done we did take her to stay at my mums in Wiltshire or prison as she?d call it as she couldn?t go out! If it?s short term she should be fine but if you are really nervous you could lock her in and ask someone to feed your cat -

I worked for a plc company that allowed you to self certify sickness for 5 days but for anything longer you needed a doctors note - perhaps that requirement has been brought in and the unions don?t like it that you have to have prove that you are genuinely ill? Be interesting to know exactly what changes the company are making to their t&cs -

Would highly recommend Stephen, he fitted carpets to my stairs - measured up and then fitted them a week later. Efficient, good value and a lovely bloke to boot. -

Isn?t kick starter for new businesses? Not established ones, surely as they do so well here and with their pop up in Brompton/Fulham ( can?t quire remember) they can fund this themselves? -

Cleaner recommendations please!
Sazzle30 replied to Ruth Campbell's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I?m surprised with so many people having cleaners these days that no one knows the answer - I found this online http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/experts/article-4422282/What-happens-cleaner-damages-something.html Think I?ll continue to clean myself but will speak to my insurers if I do decide to get one -
Cleaner recommendations please!
Sazzle30 replied to Ruth Campbell's topic in The Family Room Discussion
One question which as always stopped me from getting a cleaner. Will giving your cleaner a key invalidate your contents insurance as you?ve given a key to someone who isn?t resident? Insurers are reluctant to pay out at the best of times ( not suggesting for one minute the cleaner would be stealing) I?d be interested to know if this has impacted any claims Thanks -
Book a private tour of the Coliseum this is the legit direct site http://www.coopculture.it/en/ticket.cfm?office=Colosseo%2C%20Sotterranei%20e%20Terzo%20Ordine&id=0&evento=6 And the Vatican museum tour at night http://m.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani-mobile/en/visita-i-musei/scegli-la-visita/musei-e-collezioni/musei-vaticani-in-notturna.html To eat or if you can do the tastings (wine lots of wine, cheese, meat) is well worth doing http://www.roscioli.com/

Try the Peckham leisure centre big pool and surprisingly well equipped

Must be a third one then. I walked passed an empty shop along from Peddler and the sign said ?new vegetarian canteen opening soon? It was before Two Girls. I must admit I just googled vegetarian canteen Peckham and got the wildflower site and out 2 & 2 together to make 5 as it turns out. Maybe vegetarian food is becoming the new ?pizza? and we are going to be inundated with multiple vegetarian restaurant openings

Same people are opening a vegetarian canteen near peddler http://www.wildflowerpeckham.uk/
