Those changes to the Freedom Pass seem entirely sensible to me. Older people can still travel free after 9am for the rest of the day and all day at weekends and bank holidays. How many retired people really need to travel before 9am on weekdays? And let's face it, the reason we have all these social distancing measures is to ... protect older people. As for Sadiq Khan having a chauffeur and security, what did you expect? Do you really think the Mayor should queue for the bus? Do you think Boris Johnson did that when he was mayor? Anyway, back to the cinema bus stop - moving it to outside Mrs Robinson does seem sensible. I hope they will eventually put up one of those temporary bus stops there.
  2. Ha, I?m an angry ED mum! But I was happy to sign their petition when they first posted and my daughter went down and skated there the other day. She loved it. I think it?s great - well done guys.
  3. Very interesting post above from sheff and completely agree with Beefcheek that measures need to be relaxed - quickly. Landlords really need to do their bit and work with the shop-owners to enable them to continue trading - greedy landlords were a problem long before Covid so this worries me. Above all, we all need to do our bit and BUY LOCAL, supporting the shops and businesses as much as possible when they reopen. I'm an optimistic person and I think - and fervently hope - a lot of ED businesses may end up benefiting from more people working from home and shopping locally. But this only works if we all make the effort to shop on LL as opposed to ordering from Amazon and congratulating ourselves on saving two quid (I'm as guilty of this as the next person but really going to make an effort to change my ways). It's essentially up to us if we want to keep the character of LL.
  4. We had endless issues with Virgin for years before we eventually bit the bullet and switched to BT. Not a single problem since (4+ years). I'm amused by how regularly this kind of thread appears on the forum - and it's always Virgin. Seriously, vote with your feet, guys.
  5. Thanks for posting this - always love a bit of street art and I smiled when I saw that one had gone up a few weeks ago. I see there are two new pieces going up on Shawbury Road and Fellbrigg Road at the moment. I spoke to the guy doing the one on Fellbrigg and he said it was something to do with Extinction Rebellion (didn't quite understand what the connection was but perhaps they are funding it?). Anyway, always good to see a blank wall brightened up! (Unless it's that terrible one that the council did on North Cross Road...)
  6. Can I second the suggestions on here for a) bigger bins in entrances to parks (and more frequent rubbish collection in/near green spaces when we're all using the parks so heavily) and b) opening loos in parks. Bit grim seeing guys peeing in bushes.
  7. Thanks, Lauram! Will pop down later.
  8. As Lauram's post above - anyone know if they're taking donations today?
  9. Yes I realise the dentists themselves want to go back but their hands are tied by the government incompetence around PPE. Maddening. Re the aerosols, sorry if this is a stupid question, but wouldn?t an open window and a fan help with that? Or an extractor fan??? Let?s hope so, because otherwise there?s no way we can have normal dentistry for the foreseeable..,
  10. It's an absolute scandal that dentists haven't remained open. Other countries have managed to keep their dentists open throughout the crisis, with staff being provided with extra PPE to keep everyone safe - why can't we? It's storing up heaps of problems for the future, from extra teeth removal to serious illnesses being missed (there was an article about it in the Times today - it said that in a normal six-week period, nearly 1000 cases of cancer are initially diagnosed by dentists). Plus there's a fear that a large number of dentists will go bust - dentists aren't being offered full relief from business rates, apparently, unlike many other high-street businesses. Bringing it back to local - I've got a friend who works in the dental institute at Kings and she's been working throughout the crisis, so it is taking emergency appointments. But that might just be children only, not sure. Hope you manage to find someone to sort your problem, OP. I feel your pain - my daughter's been told she's going to have an extra 4-6 months of her braces because of this delay (there'll be a huge backlog when the orthodontists reopen, plus her teeth will have 'overcorrected' in this time). She was about three weeks off having them completely removed before we went into lockdown!
  11. Lyndhurst, that's exactly how I feel too. There seems to be this mentality that because bad things are happening then anyone seen doing anything as frivolous as playing outside with their kids or catching a few rays is laughing in the face of the pandemic. Yet as long as people are keeping an appropriate social distance and keeping within the rules then I don't see the harm of it. Exercise is one thing we can all be doing to improve our chances (and lessen the burden on the NHS) if we get ill. Ditto getting enough vitamin D. Kids need to let off steam otherwise they will become miserable and unhealthy. When I look at those playing fields and see lots of families doing all those things, I think we should be pleased that the space is being put to good use, not carping that some people are daring to look happy. We've got months of this to come. We can't sit around at home rending our clothes and weeping for the next year. It doesn't help anyone who is ill.
  12. Fair enough, though I'm sure there are more practical ways you could help NHS staff (volunteering? fundraising?) rather than getting so worked up about someone sitting in the sun. But you're right of course about the child on the bike - and if I'd seen his parents I'd have said something along those lines (even though privately I can't see how a kid's bike would permanently damage the grass - but rules are rules). It would be a real shame if Alleyn's close the field because of the occasional misuse. I hope they will realise that the vast majority are using the space sensibly and that it's a real boon to the area.
  13. Sorry, I simply don't recognise the picture you're painting, seenbeen. I've been out for a walk or run every day since this lockdown began, either round the streets, or Peckham Rye, Dulwich Park or lately the field on Townley Road. Never have I found it impossible to move around safely - it's a bit harder on the streets, sure (though generally I just walk in the road), but it's always been perfectly easy when I've got to an open space, especially that big field. So I hardly think the odd small goup of people playing ball games is stopping the rest of us getting a chance to go out. And really, you have no idea whether they were a group of housemates that you saw, or indeed whether they have a garden or not - you can't possibly make that kind of judgement from afar. There are a lot more families in ED without gardens than you think - or they have ones that are so tiny you couldn't possibly use them for exercise. Have you tried keeping a kid inside for five weeks without any proper outlet for letting off steam, when all normal sport/extra-curricular activities have been cancelled? Litter is unforgiveable in any circumstances though; that I will agree with.

Children cycling, teenagers skateboarding on > the tennis courts, people > sunbathing......meanwhile in hospitals and care > homes not very far away....... But none of those things by themselves spread the virus, do they? I've been for a walk there several times this week and have seen several families kicking a ball about, couples doing yoga together, a very small child on a bike, lots of people walking or jogging round the perimeter. Loads of space for everyone. OK, so the small child shouldn't have been on the bike according to the rules but I found it hard to feel anything but pleasure watching him wobbling about. Maybe I've been lucky in the times I've gone (early evening) but I was struck by how nice it was to see the space being put to good use and people clearly getting so much out of it. To draw a direct line between someone sitting in the sun and people dying in hospital is pretty hysterical, in my book. This space opening up has been a wonderful resource for the community - can we have a bit less relentless negativity please?
  15. Forest Hill Road PO has been closed for coming up to 3 weeks now. No notice of closure, no sign of when it will be reopened. My urgent (ha!) parcel is still stuck inside there!

I think Malumbu's original point (hope I'm not misrepresenting him/her) was that 90%+ of people are being compliant and we should celebrate that. All the government's original models assumed Brits wouldn't take well to a lockdown compared to, say, Chinese citizens, but in fact it still has overwhelming support amongst the public and the vast majority are behaving well. Of course there will always be a small minority that act like 'morons' but let's try to focus on the huge behavioural changes (unthinkable even six weeks ago) that as a society we've all adapted to. Christ knows this situation is depressing enough without fixating on a few people sunbathing or kicking a ball about. And no, I'm not condoning that behaviour, before anyone jumps on me, nor am I 'policing' anyone else's views, just trying to see the positivies in the overall picture.
  17. Ha, well said Malumbu!
  18. Useful website here listing local independent businesses that are taking delivery orders: https://www.myvirtualneighbourhood.com/east-dulwich
  19. We had this problem last week! (Nice problem to have.) There's a thread here for places to donate food locally: /forum/read.php?32,2106693
  20. Thank you for all the replies - a friend kindly took my donation over to the Peckham food bank last week but really good to know of these other more local options.
  21. I can see from your dozen or so posts in the last couple of days that you feel strongly about this, Mako. And undoubtedly joggers who loom up on people unexpectedly are idiots. But on my run today I saw other runners keeping a respectful distance and there was plenty of room for everyone. (And yes, I ran in the road most of the way to Peckham Rye and then ran on the grass once there to keep a safe distance from passers-by on the path.) So we're not all dangerous idiots and I strongly disagree with some of the people on this thread who seem to be calling for all runners to stay at home. Staying fit is one of the key ways to reduce your risk of ending up in intensive care with coronavirus (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52076856) and the benefits of running to your mental health are well known. Also the risk of catching coronavirus from someone whizzing past you at speed is 'extremely small', according to experts. Interesting article here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/23/coronavirus-outdoor-etiquette-no-spitting-and-keep-your-distance Of course there are some runners who are not careful and they should be called out but please do not tar us all with the same brush!
  22. Does anyone know any more about this place opposite ED station? Or does anyone know anywhere else we can donate tinned food in East Dulwich? We've just been sent a parcel of tinned/long-life stuff from the government as one of our family members is on the extremely vulnerable list, but we feel guilty keeping it as we've already managed to get a supermarket delivery and have another lined up next week. However I do want to limit unnecessary journeys so would be grateful for confirmation that this food bank is open before I set out. Re. the community fridge at the Albrighton Centre, does anyone know if they accept tinned donations? Grateful for any info - thanks. vic.ham Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > dino99 Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Is there one on LL or nearby? 23. Urgh, my parcel appears to be stuck in the Forest Hill Road PO - I posted an urgent overnight parcel on Monday evening and it never arrived. Now I've got no way of retrieving it or contacting anyone about it, as Parcelforce have no record of it and no one is answering the phone at the FHR PO. There's not so much as a note on the door saying what is happening. Does anyone knows anything about when it will reopen? Obviously I hope everyone who works there is OK.
  24. It works both ways - I went for a run on Sunday, scrupulously swerving into the road if someone was coming the other way on the pavement, running on the grass once I was in the park to keep a safe distance from people walking. Occasionally I'd be on a narrow section and would be amazed to see two or three people ambling towards me taking up the whole path, making no effort to move across. I'd have to stop dead and practically fling myself into a bush to let them stroll past. That said, there were lots of sensible people too and most people seemed to be keeping an eye out for each other. So it's wrong (and unhelpful) to blanket-blame whole groups of people. Also, before we all lose our minds, do remember it's actually a very small risk if someone is whizzing past you at speed - see here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/23/coronavirus-outdoor-etiquette-no-spitting-and-keep-your-distance Though obviously, we should all keep a safe distance at this time for peace of mind and common civility.

Thanks and well done x Artclub - that St George's Hospital one has been verified by the hospital as a scam - saw an article about it in the Guardian last week. Only get your news from trusted sources, people, not email rumours! More important now than ever. Thanks admin for the great work you're doing. Great to see the community coming together (not literally).
