How would you deal with this behaviour in 6 year old?
hazelnunhead replied to Ole's topic in The Family Room Discussion
HI Ole I found at this age (my daughter was (IS) still like this (but thankfully lessened) that I did two things: We did some fun role plays at home when I would be her and she would be me, and I would roll around on the floor, kicking my legs in the air, shouting ~ I'm not leaving, generally making myself look silly - and we would laugh over it. Then she would do the same - the sillier the better! Then I would get her to role play without a fuss, and we would both have fun with this. I asked her what would make it easier for her (did she want a 15 minute warning) and we came to an agreement on that. Before the playdate, usually that morning, I remind her of expected behavior and on the whole this has worked really well. In this conversation I have told her that if she continues to not leave then it will impact on her going on another playdate. I sometimes need to reinforce it, but by having some fun with her at this age, and coming up with silly and crazy scenarios of how NOT to leave a playdate, made her more aware of what I was really asking for. Like Canela I also try and focus on what we are going to do, and shift the focus to something else ...... -
I recently travelled to SA with my daughter and I had to have a parental form from my husband (signed and notarized as well as a copy of his passport, notarized). This is a sample form from the SA embassy that you could adapt and use - we had it notarized by the solicitors in east dulwich (?30) - you need to have it noratised if you are going down this route for it to be valid, as well as a copy of your passport. ..... Don't be like me and arrive at the airport ready to fly without this!!!!! It took an almighty effort on the part of my husband to get this done and for us to still fly that night!!! http://photos.state.gov/libraries/southafrica/231771/PDFs/dha_affidavit_consent_traveling_with_minors.pdf

Pocket money and going rates
hazelnunhead replied to hazelnunhead's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nunhead mum, do they keep the "extra" from each week in a piggy bank or purse? Trying to think of a way to get my daughter to perhaps "save" for a few weeks to buy something she wants. Okay so between ?2 to ?3 seems a good average. -
Been thinking of giving my daughter (8) weekly pocket money. No idea of amount though! Does anyone do this for this age range, and willing to share amount. I was thinking around ?3, enough for a magazine or treat, and enough to save for a couple of weeks to buy something. Would appreciate any thoughts from anyone who is doing this, and what works!

If you google BBC typing there is one aimed at this age group. I heard about it at a dyslexia conference. I think it is free. You could also contact the Dyslexia Association to see what they recommend if this does not seem suitable.

hazelnunhead replied to hazelnunhead's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks nunhead mum will do that. Hopefully they will have a list or even GP's that work privately with them. Will look into walk in centre as well. -
My father in law who is staying with us needs to see a GP (he is not on the NHS, so I am looking for a private GP that he could see, preferably in the area.) Does anyone have a contact or recommendation? Thanks

hazelnunhead replied to hazelnunhead's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for that Pickles, will definitely consider Beano .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_DFC I had never heard of the "DFC" either, but my daughter picked up some old copies from school and brought them home. -
My daughter, who has always loved reading books with illustrations / something visual, has been reading some old DFC comics from school. She is loving them, unfortunately they are no longer published. Does anyone have recommendations for comics that your children read. I am looking for a comic like the DFC one, no adverts, no junk/plastic on the front (which my daughter loves!)and perhaps something that I can get a subscription to that comes weekly or twice a month? Any recommendations appreciated .

Hi Bonacara Sorry to hear abut your sons teeth. My understanding of the use of crowns on baby (milk teeth) is that these silver "crowns" are easy to put on, durable, and they protect the tooth so that it can stay in place until it needs to fall out for the adult tooth to come out. If you google silver crowns on children's teeth there is quite a lot of articles written on this. I think it is also to prevent the child to have to keep on coming back to get a filling. (I think if the area that needs to be filled is too big, and difficult for the dentist to fill, then they suggest a crown) I am not a dentist, this is just from my own personal knowledge and reading, so obviously take professional advice on this. I would say that the dentist at Kings is good though - perhaps you could phone to ask if you can speak over the treatment plan? Good luck with whatever you decide

Nimble Arts holiday clubs - can you recommend them?
hazelnunhead replied to Bishberro's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter has been, she loves them. They are well organised, lots of fun, a good ratio of adults. They also open early and have a later pick up so much easier than some clubs that finish at 4. I would recommend them, which reminds me I need to look at the May options! -
How primary schools manage lost property
hazelnunhead replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Molly I hear you! I managed to go to the cupboard of lost property doom today. Nothing there! No idea where to look for item, will take many moons to finally get it back! This year I got labels with my daughters name and class name, hasn't made any difference! I wondered if we got the PTA or something like that to raise money for a proper storage system, where like clothes could be put (e.g. T shirts of each colour separately, rain coats in another box, so that when you are looking for something you could at least know where to start) I would also be happy to volunteer to do the odd shift and return marked items to owners. A creative solution is really needed for this. Would be ntereting to know other school's systems. -
Goodrich & Ivydale schools
hazelnunhead replied to yummy mummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ivydale finishes at 3.30. -
School starts at 9.00 (bell rings about 8.55 I think) Ends at 3.30. There is an after school club which is until 18hoo (which my daughter attends twice a week), and I know children that attend the breakfast club which if memory serves me correct starts at 8. If you phone reception they could chat you through this as well.
