  1. http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about-dyslexia/schools-colleges-and-universities/primary-hints-and-tips.html Minitoots that is the link to British Dyslexia Association, which has useful information. If click on the link it will show you contact numbers; how to get assessed etc ....
  2. Mini toots I work with students (HE) level and those could be symptoms of dyslexia. It would be worth itvifvyou could get him assessed. If he has dyslexia he should be entitled to funding from his LEa for support and resources. There are fantastic resources available to assist with learning. I can get you some of this information if itvwouldchelp? The British Dyslexia Association might be helpful as well. You can do online testscvutvthey are pretty basic, but the full assessment will give you a clear picture, and if he is dyslexic will show you his strengths and weaknesses and ways in which he learns. If he is statements as dyslexic he will also be entitled to more time for waiting exams etc. good luck, if you want any ,ore info let me know and I can gather some more info for you.
  3. Some of you might know, but you can turn off on your iPad in app buying .... So that if your children are playing a game they can't purchase anything. It's under settings. If anyone wants to know I can post how to do it. Maths bingo is quite fun Toca Boca a hit Montessori apps for letters etc really lovely, and a good counting one with rods. More for under 5's though Also got a really lovely drawing app ( similar to the one hockey usedcwhenchecdid art on thecipad) and that is always used. You can save all the artworks, or email directly from app.
  4. For me what is more important is help on the day with entertaining. For a child,s party I find buying the food etc relatively easy and would only really seek help for a much older party. Personally I can source most things, although I am sure your creative ideas would be most welcome. I am just not sure I would pay for that as I have found that if children are having fun, entertained they are happy. I still quite enjoy e simplicity of musical bumps, balloons and pass the parcel! But perhaps as children get older this might be an area where parents are interested.
  5. Thanks Lorraine, really appreciate your advice .....
  6. Theres some fun stuff happening at the Childrens Museum over Easter - grandparents might enjoy a nostalgic view of toys they played with! http://www.museumofchildhood.org.uk/ Its an easy overland train to Whitechapel (and then quick bus - 254) to childrens museum or you can go to shoreditch and walk (10 mins) There is a little park adjacent to the Childrens museum, as well as benches outside for picnic lunches.
  7. Lorraine, thank you for that information - that is really helpful (and the code, thanks) .... could I ask you your advice on using Yamaha PSRE 423 as well - i seem to have narrowed my research a bit!
  8. Yes - my daughter has had her hair cut there ....
  9. I know that GMS Hair (Melbourne Grove) is having a "1/2 price cut and style for you and your friends" (I got a text from them) If this interests you send me a pm with your phone number and i will forward the text to you with the offer. If you book today you will recieve 1/2 price colour as well. You might need to phone to clarify the offer etc, but that is what the text suggests. I do love Kuki on Bellenden road .....
  10. Thanks for that link, very informative, will have a read ......
  11. My daughter is about to start keyboard lessons, and i have no idea which one to get! Is there anyone who has recommendations or advice around this. I was hoping to get a keyboard that could lead (if desired) to piano playing in the future and i guess I would like one that doesnt come with all the extra's - (drum and other effects). Any advice welcome!
  12. I agree with LuckyOne, you should be able to do it for free via Survey Monkey, and it will also help you with the statistics with the questions ......
  13. Sifnos. Just beautiful. Small so easy to get around ......
  14. Should have added - the "Whats on" thread on this forum also gives ideas and listings on what is happening locally......
  15. Dulwich Picture Library and Dulwich Park opposite. Southbank - if a nice day, fun just to hang around and listen to the various buskers. Always something happening and you can take in Shakespeare Dome; good views; Tate Gallery etc etc Go on the boat from Tate Modern to other Tate. (or vice versa) Greenwich - loads to do here from Maritime museum; Cuttysark; etc. YOu can also get on the boat here. Science Museum; Natural History Museum, V and A - favourites with most children Hop on the overland (from Brockley or Honour Oak Park) and go to Childrens Museum (Bethnal Green) or Geffrey Museum near Shoreditch - if you go on these websites they will let you know what holiday activities are on - usually involve some sort of workshops (free) most days for children. Albany Theatre in Deptford for children's plays
  16. Renata, could I ask you (out of interest) if there information that can be accessed to show where primary children (from which schools) got to which secondary schools. I would be interested to know the schools, and range that children within the area access. Is this sort of information available? Thanks
  17. from my own experience of my daughter going to reception, she was given all the support she needed within the school itself. I am not sure if you would like extra support for your child for specific reasons (i.e. help with a disability or condition). I would imagine, that unless needed, your child would learn with their peers at school. My daughter did not do much writing at 4, but you could get your daughter used to holding pens through drawing, cutting etc. You can play games with counting yourself the same with letters
  18. There is also that little shop (Bellenden Road) towards the scout hall, (not on the strip where kuki hair etc is but the other way if that makes sense) that sells interesting gifts, cushion covers, tea towels, jewellery etc. I have found some interesting bits here for presents to send abroad. However they have quite odd opening hours!
  19. H and m do ballet outfits and cheap slipper like shoes if you are just trying out .......
  20. The cafe on pellet road, cafe on rye (I think)has t shirts and other printed stuff very peckham based. Some lovely stuff there. There's a great childrens book on London if that is appropriate. I have also found the maritime museum, shop, has really great gifts for both children and adults.
  21. Good luck Threadhead. Happy present buying ......
  22. Can you give me a few more details of what your wife likes and I will think of some things for you! (approx price range would be helpful) Okay top of my head, without further information would be: A kindle loaded with some books Membership to Dulwich Picture Gallery / Tate / Royal Academy Movie card loaded with some cash (I got one of these for my husband from Greenwich Picture House) Therapy on Melbourne Grove have some nice products if she likes bath stuff etc A handbag? Bias (women's shop) on Bellenden Road have fantastic clothes and accesories, and I am sure the owner would help you choose something
  23. From a previous recommendation from this board I have used Brendan Murton at The Penny Group. We have met him at his offices near Liverpool station and he has also come to our house. His number his 020 70612348 and I would recommend him.
