If you pop into the Dish and Spoon on Cheltenham Road you will find that they do lots of classes, meet ups with local mums/dads/carers ... they also advertise quite a few groups and activities that are going on. If you see a copy of Angels and Urchins (magazine) - I think Dish and Spoon keep these as well, they have lists of everthing on in the area for children.....

Suggestions for long haul flight
hazelnunhead replied to Fijifish's topic in The Family Room Discussion
One thing that worked with my daughter at this age on a long distance flight was to have either a few lollies or chewy sweets to give at take off and landing to help with air pressure in their ears (or a dummy or sucking on a bottle, whatever works best) I had a little backpack stuffed with cheap disposable type toys (things that come free in magazines; pound shop) that could be pulled out and not really a problem if left behind! Snacks are useful, some drinks, extra water so you dont have to wait for an air hostess to reach you... .. but I agree with Pickle once the flights starts there is also lots happening, it is usually the time before the plane leaves and when you are about to land that you need some stuff to occupy them with. I would definatley have some apps or something on an ipad if needed for distraction, although aqua doodel etc, sticker books are spot on ..... Those little sticky post it notes are useful! My duaghter once sat quietly and covered an entire seat in them. (and of course easy to clear up afterwards) TAke those head rest cushions as extra padding is always needed to get comfortable. And dont forget to order yourself a bottle of wine when the food comes around! -
My daughter (7) would be interested.

Some good board games Cd's (stories) from the library I think in this situation I would load game apps on iPad as he will be so limited in what he can do, and iPad will keep him occupied and still ( Would some science kits or some of those sets from science museum work? (I am sure you could pull some experiments off the net)

I went with my daughter when she was about three. Take a light weight stroller for walking. We enjoyed Central Park, some of the museums, Brooklyn (there's a childrens museum there), walking over Brooklyn bridge. Next time I would probably go on one of those boat trips (quite cheesy) but a good way to see Statue of Liberty, sky line etc. I will post some more ideas as I think of them, but on the whole had a really great trip. Easy to eat out and navigate yourself around the city, transport cheap and easy.

I found these UV suits really useful with my daughter, as well as long sleeved cotton shirts that protected her skin. I am not sure it will matter too much if you get a one piece or two piece (there are usually quite a few for sale on ebay), so perhaps you could get one of each?

If you had an evening off...
hazelnunhead replied to philiphenslowe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'd probably head to the Old (or young) Vic near Waterloo, for a play, and then some tapas or something around London Bridge (near Borough MArket). Easy to get to as well by bus. Or check Bussey Building for what is on ..... Enjoy your night off ..... -

Know of a good clown/circus entertainer for 6+?

We used Nick (lathough spoke and organised with James) from http://www.pressplay.org.uk/ from Pressplay Productions. Nick was absolutely fabulous, entertaining over 20 children for 2 hours, showing them how to balance peackock feathers, spin plates, use diablos's, juggle and ride pedalo's I organised this with James, he responded to all my emails, and they were great to work with. Would recommend if you were looking for a circus skills party ..... -

Special mummy and 3 year old day out
hazelnunhead replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Try alabany theatre in deptford, do great children's theatre, very reasonable. You could follow with lunch at the big red bus (they have a pizza special on at the moment. There is also a decent pool for smaller children very near albany theatre if you want to combine some activities, Or what about something in greenwich? Maritime museum? -
Dulwich Picture Gallery hold art classes for older children.

Yur cakes look lovely ! However this is something that would be a one off order, or perhaps if lots of guests ...... But i have used the services for cake making from other forumnites who have advertised. Not sure about the bread, this is something i buy when out and about, different bakeries / markets / and when needed. I guess you could get a list of people who might want bread over a weekend, and then bake and deliver? I used to order pies off someone from the forum, he would advertise about once a month the pies he was offering, i would order and then he would deliver ..... good luck whaterver you deicde
