  1. I work with teenages and I can assure you with emphasis:Children headed for trouble come in all "colours" and children headed for the top do too.
  2. What about the part of the Channel 4 programme that showed the dairy farmer crying because the big supermarkets have forced him and others out of business by making him take loses because they undercut each other with unrealistically low prices to rope us into ignoring the reality of what sustainably produced food and correct animal welfare really costs? Sorry for the run-on sentence.
  3. this is the link for the meeting
  4. Hi all, You may have recieved an email about a Community Council Meeting to discuss the proposed market extension. Please do not jump on me if I've missed this but are any of you either Shop Keepers on Lordship Lane or Stall Holders current or wanting a place in the North Cross Road Market? My question to you, sellers not residents, is: Do you resent the market because it takes your business: Stores and are you desperate for a place and is there money to be made: Stall Holders I feel I've missed the opinion of the brick and mortar shops and the current and future stall holders This is the Southwark email: there will be a planning and general Dulwich community council meeting on Wednesday, 9 February 2011, at 6.00pm, at Christ Church, 263, Barry Road, SE22 0JT. The first part of the meeting will be dealing with planning and will begin at 6.00pm. This will be followed by a main meeting - at 7.00pm - to consider the possible extension of the North Cross Road Market. You can find details of the meeting by clicking here.
  5. My neighbour's car was also scratched with "VEX" on Upland Rd
  6. You are all very kind to read and respond. This is a wonderful way to share.
  7. I KNOW this is the EAST Dulwich Forum but nothing exists for Peckham that I know of. Does anyone know of a child and mother friendly switched on family surgery in Peckham/ Burgess Park Old Kent Rd area. A friend in the area is desperate! THANKS for any and all help
  8. What does everyone thing about the biggest sale of commonly held land in recent times? I think the sale shows shortsightedness!
  9. An epidemic is a cluster of occurances: affecting many persons at the same time It seems perfectly acceptable to lable this a cluster of occurances. There was an outbreak of breakins through backdoors in SE22 and once people started to compare notes they were alarmed and were more careful. There's clearly an outbreak of car breakins: bending doors, it happened to my neighbour when I brought it up in passing. These mini epidemics, that is, patterns of something, make it easier to think of solutions and to take action. These crime patterns are in all likelihood one two or a tiny group in each case. The perpetrators have to be stopped and the way is to take joint action with the police in the lead.
  10. I will look out for this car and post the registration if I see it. It is very clear what happened and very fortunate that there was no injury. Cars kill pedestrians and cyclists. A driving mistake kills. It is much rarer for a cyclist to hurt pedestrians so please no posts about how horribly people cycle and how rude they are. Any one who is rude is out of order. But cars drivers are allowed to think they own 1/4 of urban space. A near miss does not exonerate not looking.
  11. ?100,000 at any time is a fantastic amount and now, with a budget crisis? It doesn't matter which party holds the purse strings, budgets have to balance and I for one do not want to pay for waste. People have to control their behaviour and Law should be minimal: Pedestrians have the right of way at intersections. Maximum speed should be 20mph on residential streets and enforced until that is deeply clear to drivers and then the enforcement will no longer be needed. It seems bizarre to build new roads and then deface them with speed bumps and endless piles of tarmac. In that case why not just leave the potholes and building debris to slow people down? Either people understand minimal social participation or government must endlessly run behind them with money and apologies. To summarize a number of threads here over the months in a general non-specific way: clean the front of your property pick up after yourself and your animals help others when possible drive at a speed that allows you to stop yield first to pedestrians, then bicycles, then cars to your right (order of vulnerability) and never never block the intersection
