burglary in Goodrich Road (December 01)
mynamehere replied to lilolil's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I just saw CCTV images of a man on a bicycle riding onto a neighbour's forecourt to have very good look at his car at 5am on Sunday morning (the 8th of December). My neighbour found the imagine disturbing and it does underscore the various points on different threads that people are casing cars and houses for orchestrated planned thefts. No answers from me just another tiny piece to the puzzle. Upland Road FYI -
What if? what if you called the bike lock company and asked about the problem. Have you been to a locksmith? We have 2 keys for these locks. You must have had 2 keys? and the other key? where do you keep all your spare keys?

I was there. More than 1000 people on bikes. Road Peace was there too. Everyone was more sparkly than a Christmas Tree. -
I don't don't know exactly how these ratings change from 1 to 5. I imagine I can handle 3-5 but 1 and 2? What's the point of having hygiene ratings if we poo poo them? I saw the TV series a bit back. 1 and 2 are gross out bad. Thank you Government for setting parameters.

Double burglary Landells Road (November 24)
mynamehere replied to Sharchat's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think that the SNTs and Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators are just starting to use targeted emails to keep streets up-to-date. So get on a local scheme, give them your email and hopefully get information that way as well as here -

cle, I asked Admin about "pinning" a safety thread to one of the categories or making a separate category. And I've been in touch with Safer Neighbourhood teams about running something on this forum. There seems to be an issue with the way this forum is used and the way people post. It's a bit obscure so I won't try to elaborate

In Germany this type of free cycle is done once a month on a specific day and everything is put in one place, on one corner: Sparmull (extra stuff) and if it's not taken by passer-bys it's collected by "the city". Just saying. Is this a better way to do it?

On Friday afternoon, around 2.20pm, two men thought to be in their 60s died after being hit by a double decker bus in Romford. Less than 90 minutes later a woman in Roehampton died after being hit by a lorry. Both drivers have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. http://londonist.com/2013/11/three-pedestrians-die.php 3 pedestrians dead since Friday 2 by a bus and one by a lorry not one story anywhere about a rogue cyclist killing anyone And drivers need to stop: texting, watching films, applying makeup, talking on the phone, eating

Tree felling that happened this week?
mynamehere replied to poppet27's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Southwark has in all likelihood (as I don't sit in the meetings) used an opportunity to take down trees to make Mr Hargrove's vision of a "traditional" cemetery a reality. Trees with plaques can be a cemetery. Benches with plaques under trees and in foliage can be a cemetery. Wall made of plaques with dense bio-diversity can be a cemetery. Two layers of cement is the vision of the Council because that's "what people want". -
Sheppy16's post is the nicest and most considerate post on cycling I've ever read on this forum

Road Peace was set up by a bereaved family. Have a look at the website. It might be a type of balm and might give you ideas. http://www.roadpeace.org The London Cycle Campaign might give you ideas as well and also might be a place to find positive support and maybe even peace http://lcc.org.uk You are hugely brave to post here. I hope some of the unthinking members of this forum will have a reality check Maybe Admin could stick this post to the top of The Lounge or better, the main section where there's more traffic. At least, Admin, this might deserve prominence for a week or two so that there's a pause to reflect on what this type of needless death means to families. I have a 19-year-old boy. He and his dad cover 1000's of miles on their bicycles. Me too but hundreds not thousands. This is the only thing I have ever worried about.

In the last couple of weeks 5 people driving cars have been killed by people on bicycles. Some of the cyclists rode off and the ones who stopped to see if the car driver was alright and were asked for a comment said: "I didn't see the car, it was black and the windows were smoked. The driver didn't indicate clearly and I wasn't really pleased by the position of the car in the road. Road user rules clearly state ?.." The cyclists said, "sorry" which the courts accepted as all 5 deaths and the thousands and thousands before them were accidents and the allocation of blame while in all likelihood the fault of the car drivers for mistakes and poor driving was otherwise unclear. The cyclists were cautioned and given points in the few cases where it could be proved beyond reasonable doubt they shared blame for the unfortunate accidents. Oh, and what's for dinner?

Cleaner Greener Safer application deadline today!
mynamehere replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We like to turn local people's ideas into reality! If you live or work in Southwark, you can apply for changes that you would like to see in your area. From something as small as planting bulbs in a park or a housing estate, to larger projects such as replacing an old playground, or safety measures like lighting or pedestrian crossings - it's up to you! For the past eleven years the CGS programme has funded only capital projects such as creating new and refurbishing existing ball courts, installing new railings and fencing, and improving lighting. Now, with the addition of the CGS Revenue fund, projects such as extra street cleaning, gardening courses for residents and other maintenance type projects, will also be considered for funding. Groups that can deliver a project themselves can be considered for a grant. Applications for both CGS capital and revenue can be made using the same form, and successful applications will be allocated to the appropriate fund by council officers. For information about some completed projects in your area, please choose your area from the list on the left. The closing date for applications for this year's programme is Friday 8 November 2013. Decisions on the applications will be announced at community council meetings in January and February 2014. Applicants will be notified by letter after this. https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/MySouthwarkRegister.asp -
In my opinion as a cyclist first and aesthetically as well I just want loads, hundreds, of standing lock loops http://www.cycle-shelters-direct2u.co.uk/sheffield-bike-loops.html James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cyclehoops > http://www.cyclehoop.com/product/cyclehoops/cycleh > oop-for-lamp-post/ are banned from Southwark > street by council officials. > > so amazed if officers now telling you people cycle > hangars are acceptable - > http://www.cyclehoop.com/product/bike-lockers/bike > -hangar/

James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi rahrahrah, > Sadly Southwark Council has decided it doesnt want > any cycle street clutter of the likes of cyclehoop > products. REally frustrating as we had funding for > such measures but were rejected! James make sure the decision to reject cycle "parking" is widely circulated. It's already impossible to find a proper lock up space when you are shopping.

http://lcc.org.uk/articles/mayors-cycle-superhighway-2-extension-the-first-step-towards-going-dutch-for-london-cyclists Take a ride on part of the new cycle super highway in this video. It's from the LCC emailed magazine. If you're a cyclist imho you should consider joining. There are some jobs going at the moment if that's your thing.

Parking controls in the Dulwich park?
mynamehere replied to achaikos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I moved here in 1998. Have these "traffic calming" events caused more traffic? People went ballistic at each measure. The war to control Rye Lane was particularly graphic. There simply are more people and more to come and more after them and, have I said it yet? still more and more. And what does that mean for traffic and cars and rights? I went to the Picture Gallery's WHISTLER and stared at the maps and scenes. We could live in a high tech world with relatively few people (just say no to Ponzi Human demographics to "pay retirements") and guess what? if we somehow lived with all the great stuff of 2013 but way fewer people.... you could drive where and, within reason, how you liked. -

Parking controls in the Dulwich park?
mynamehere replied to achaikos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
When I moved to the area Dulwich Park was drive through, park pretty much where you like so was Rye Lane and there were no designated bus lanes. Are we better or worse off? -
yes I imagine you can if you get the okay of the owners and residents. Interestingly that is a favourite of Vladimir Putin as well
