Thatnks for the suggestion. Wagfree don't do pork pies unfortunately, they said it's something they've been meaning to try though. Found this recipe which doesn't seem too difficult, we shall see! Thanks for all the suggestions

As it turns out my girlfriend is going to have a go at making them but thanks all same, those links will be useful in the future

Hello, My mum is coeliac and I'm trying to find some gluten-free pork pies for her birthday (Monday). This probably sounds like a lame birthday present but it's something she's really missed since developing the disease! I was hoping the East Dulwich Deli would sell them but they don't, so I'm slightly stuck and Google isn't helping much. Does anybody know anywhere, either locally or in Central? Thanks in advance

This is a concept I've been interested in for a while. It seems that there's quite a few folks doing it, this site seems to have a fairly decent set up: http://www.swapaskill.com/ I'd love to know the law on this? Surely it can only be perceived as fraudulent when it's approached as a time banking thing, where units of 'time' are earned and can be spent within the participating community. That's basically currency. But to me that is different than a plumber fixing an electricians sink in exchange for new sockets??

Not to get all hippy on y'all but I really think there's a bit of a control issue between the people and the powers that be when it comes to stuff like that. The free party scene is still very much alive in the East Midlands and whilst it's probably looked down upon by the terminally out of touch who still advocate boozing in a controlled environment, I have never once seen any trouble or any wrongdoing of any sort. The last one was in a clearing which the landowner had permitted, miles away from any residential areas so noise was not an issue... the police still came and tried to close it down though. In saying that, they realised they were outnumbered and had to stand back and let it die down naturally. The night in question is actually run by world famous deep house DJs and is a very well organised thing, and an enormous breath of fresh air compared to the ?20+ entry, ?5+ drinks 'organised' nights in London which every sleazy European and his dog are welcome to... that's where the trouble's at!

I guess reggae can also be "characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats", so can most genres. Surely this was a relevant act when electronica was new and therefore easy to pick out from all other types of music but now it seems a bit ambigious; can you imagine being in court and having either side arguing the toss over the legal definition of 'repetitive beats'??

I cycle to Victoria every day and have found a great (and safe) route to Oval which takes me 10/15 minutes from Rodwell Road and avoids Camberwell New Road Map

According to Brixton rec's website, squash is ?5.05 for 30 minutes so presuming you're going to want a full 45 min session then it'll obviously be similar money as hamlets, plus the hassle of going to Brixton and back. Hmm

I cannot believe I didn't read the thread before mine. Poor show, sorry for my apparent lack of brain!

Hi. I used to play a lot of squash and I'm looking to get back into it in east Dulwich. I've played at hamlets a couple of times but ?10 for 45 minutes is ridiculous, and when I want to play 2/3 times a week soon adds up. A bit of research has pulled up the Dulwich squash club, but again that seems like a lot of money for a casual player (?200 a year plus a court fee each time) Does anybody know of anywhere in se22, se23, se15, se5 where you can just pay a fair amount for a game of squash?!

Strange visit from the police at 4:30 this morning

Curmudgeon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not heard of any break-ins on Rodwell Road tbh That was part of the reason for me posting, to see if anyone had. Made it all the more strange, as if the policeman knew it was a bit of an over-reaction! The fence was left repairable it seems and we have repaired it so no harm really done. Just a bit of re-maneuvering of the fence panel and a mop of the kitchen and hallway, so not really grounds for a complaint and I don't really feel entitled to compensation! I always think it's best to leave the police be unless they've been really out of order. Thanks for your suggestions though -
Strange visit from the police at 4:30 this morning

Had a very strange call at the door this morning, 4 police officers and a German Shepherd! They asked if they could come through our house (on Rodwell Road) to get into the garden to gain access to next doors garden. Bleary eyed and not overly articulate we let them in and watched from the upstairs bathroom. They really went at the connecting fence between our garden at the neighbours, with the dog raring to go and eventually they made enough space for it to fit through. The burglar alarm had apparently been going off in the house next door but this seemed a bit much? I was actually a bit annoyed when they left as they let the filthy dog walk back through the house leaving quite a mess and they told me that they couldn't repair what they'd done to the fence through lack of daylight and that we should be able to sort it out today. I asked what it was all about and one officer told me that Rodwell Road was targeted by thieves last night, with many houses being burgled??? -
We saw Tesco Metro being looted last night. The people in there weren't just 'teenage youths' as the media seem to be alluding to, there were middle aged women in there too. Everybody's behaviour was extremely brazen, there was a guy walking out totally casually stuffing his face with something he'd clearly just pinched. My concern is for this evening. Not necessarily East Dulwich, they don't seem like they're on the hunt for over-priced baby-clothes or hand made birthday cards. But I was in Camberwell for a few hours last night and was sure the trouble would come down from Peckham in that direction, especially given the fact that the police had successfully created a blockade in the New Cross direction. But it never happened, I wonder if it will tonight. If 'Social Networking' is making this kind of info so publicly available, has anyone seen Twitter feeds relating to the next targets? I need to know as I need to go to Camberwell this evening as well and don't want to get caught up in it all!

Warning -HSBC ATM LL this morning 1st July

This has happened to me at the same cash machine, although I didn't get a stranger come and 'help' me. Fortunately, somebody I was with knew what the scam is and if you pull the plastic around where you put your card in, you'll probably find that there's a fascia on there that you didn't notice, which has got 2 flaps going into the ATM and a hook, which prevents your card from coming out. In my case, there was nobody looking over my shoulder so it can't have been an attempt to get a pin number. There were however a few guys stood about 2 metres behind smoking and chatting and not seemingly waiting for the cash machine. The scam is clearly for the victim to presume that the machine has swallowed their card, so walk away. Then the scammer can remove the fascia, and out will come your card and the cash you requested. I tried to tell the police around LL at the time but it was the night that the guy from Hamlets was murdered so understandably they weren't too bothered! -

There's a guy who drinks in there with an amazing old white Bristol. He walked out as soon as the quizmaster started talking a few months ago, uttering every name under the sun about him as he walked out!

ha, my housemates went out in Shoreditch and after a few beers stumbled across a Boris Bike stand. Their hazy, blurry eyes convinced them that the terms and conditions were ?1 hire for 24 hours use!!! I woke up in our East Dulwich house to find 2 Boris Bikes in the corridor, and 2 smarmy housemates, convinced they'd found 'the secret' to cheap transport in London. In the 23rd hour they returned the bikes to Elephant & Castle. 3 weeks later, got their bank statements, ?52 EACH!

Great stuff, thanks for all your help. He's just going to risk it and go for Park Lane

Hi there, My brother is driving down today and as of yet, I've still not found a way to drive to SE22 without going through central. He'll be coming in off the M1 at about 14:30ish which I know isn't too peak, but Park Lane etc is always a pain. Surely there's a way of getting South East without going through central. Any ideas? Thought about joining to M4 at Slough and going through Hounslow/Wandsworth, although this is totally from looking at Google and not through recommendation! Thanks

Hi, Just found a Sony Ericsson Xperia in a red surround case on St Francis Road, down by the station and Dulwich fryer. Tried to get into it and call 'home, mum' etc but it is locked, and the battery has also died since. It has a pretty distinguishable background picture so tell us what this is and I'll pm my address!

I was talking to an officer last night outside the scene of the stabbing and asked what was going on and he said there'd been a stabbing AND a shooting so this makes (worrying) sense
