Thanks acm. Does that mean for once the Co-op will actually have some food! I think I might have to go down to LL just to see that (only joking, please this is not an excuse to revive the whole supermarket discussion that have been revised in numerous other threads).
That is a good point, but to be honest I am happy to go down there first to find out exactly what the situation is even if it means being turned away by the police. Perhaps someone on the forum can advise if anyone is in the know.
From what I can glean a few shops have been hit on the lane by mindless looters - The Palmerston, Post Office, Chemist, Grocers...I am going down to the lane tomorrow to help clean up where I can. Anyone else want to join me?
Last week I noticed a small tree on Barry tree road had been damaged during some of the recent bad weather. Although it's main branch had split, several other large branches remained in perfect order. A local resident had taken a saw to remove the main branch that had been blocking the pavement and over the weekend the council had neatened the cut branches and removed the debris. However I was somewhat saddened this morning to see he council returning to cut the tree down a take it away. I am not a tree surgeon, but this seemed a little heavy handed. Maybe the tree was too badly damaged and is going to be replaced? Or perhaps like Southwark council decided to prune some of its trees while they were in blossom earlier this year they don't really know what they are doing....I would love to see the tree replaced.
A group of friends visited the Herne Hill Tavern last Sunday and said it was the best roast around (its run by the same people as the Palmerston). It also has a fantastic beer garden and is very family friendly. http://www.theherne.net/
What a great idea! I would be very interested in this. I always have tones of pears, but no other fruit. If all goes according to plan I should also be rolling with potatoes, onions and garlic quite soon.
I am in the same position as pablogrande, namely that by the time I arrive home most of the shops are shut. I would love to see a proper indoor food market with numerous independent traders / cafes.
I didnt even know we had foxes in our backgraden until it snowed and I saw their footprints in the snow leading to a bag of rubbish that had been pulled all across the front drive. I dont hold it against them though
I only just found out over Christmas the collective noun for a crow is a murder of crows - brilliant. I think my top three has to be: A sneak of weasels A skulk of foxes A squabble of seagulls
I think James needs to make more information available. On a previous post he said the reason for asking what people thought was purely based on the fact that a number of people had said they wanted either an M&S or Waitrose in a previous thread. ???
Sounds brilliant. I think it is something that I might like to use in an evening or at the weekend (as I work during the day). It could be great for birthdays (perhaps you could offer a reduced rate or some sort of deal?). I don't think I would want to pay more than the cost of a normal cinema (even if it does show arthouse films), could you choose what film you would like to watch? Almost like a lovefilm cinema or something like that. I would travel to Nunhead or West Dulwich.
Hi James, There is a great peoples supermarket on Lambs Conduit street in Holborn that opened up recently and seems to be doing very well, I think it is a really interesting model.
