  1. Its the wine tasting session thingy mike
  2. Great insight there Jenny, I can see you making a valuable addition to the forum...
  3. spymum - some history details on wikipedia Lordship Lane entry. Actually, I'll save you clicking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:House_of_Concrete.jpg One of the most architecturally interesting buildings in the area is at 549 Lordship Lane. The so-called "Concrete House" is a derelict grade II listed building and is an example of a 19th century concrete house. It is believed that it is the only surviving example in England. It was built in 1873 by Charles Drake of the Patent Concrete Building Company. In 1867, the builder had patented the use of iron panels for shuttering rather than timber. It is listed on English Heritage's Buildings At Risk register. Southwark Council has refused permission for its demolition and it has become derelict because it has been empty for so long.
  4. cut off their trigger fingers?
  5. lazygirl - trains are moving to Oyster soon I think, so you will be able to prepay for train journeys (TFL press release). --- Yay - we stayed on topic for 67 posts - go team!
  6. I am another net-caster, having crossed into SE15 by literally a couple of metres when I moved last year. If I was looking to move today, I would head Nunhead direction for value. SE22 stretches quite far south, and I would rather be near a station but not in SE22 than stuck up Underhill Rd given my daily commute. You can get a 3 bed on the other side of Peckham Rye for the same price as a small flat in ED.
  7. Congratulations katgod (mind you, I would be worried if you were male and managed to get the blue line to appear!)
  8. To be fair, we have managed to go at least a week without some "friend of a friend" style M&S rumour, so at least that's something. Maybe your friend actually heard that someone is planning to open an S&M club and the story got slightly distorted as it was passed along the chain? ;-)
  9. /start off topic warning Ah Michael, but there are two sides to the Mother Teresa story as well... /end off topic warning
  10. I'd say he has been here quite a while... 2 4X4's, 2 People Carriers and a Van - he's certainly not an environmentalist, thats for sure!
  11. Tell me more about parking regs - are these local laws? Might it be worth having a word with the council do you think? CB - it is ridiculous watching him out there with 3 or 4 sets of keys moving them all a foot. We used to have a mini and I always waited for the time when he would leave a big enough gap for us to squeeze in, but it never happened :'(
  12. Yes, MP, the good old days when you could park wherever you liked. http://www.ideal-homes.org.uk/images/southwark/east-dulwich/barry-road-00631-640.jpg Is that Ibo I see in the driving seat?
  13. I believe there is a nob and balls retrospective coming to the dulwich picture gallery in the summer as it happens
  14. CPZ would be great - our neighbour has 5 cars parked on the street and only ever drives 1 at a time, which often means no spaces near our door (when he leaves he shuffles the rest up to make sure that his 5 spaces are always preserved for him). Can anyone top that for anti-social street parking behaviour?!
  15. Should be lots of blokes in the footie pubs (Vale, EDT, Magdala etc) as its Bolton v Arsenal in the FA Cup (tu)
  16. Did anyone go on Saturday - I heard 3-0 up and cruising with a triumphant return to the top of the league on the cards until disaster struck in the last 15 minutes?
  17. how do you keep warm batdog? at least logs are from a sustainable source, unlike the oil and gas that most people use to run their central heating...
  18. Seen those many times in the back of the sunday papers - do they actually work?
  19. Ok then Michael, a practical example. A catholic school will teach children that contraception is wrong, at the expense of educating them about STDs and teenage pregnancy. An christian school will teach children that there is no such thing as evolution. A muslim school willl use religous textbooks that refer to non-muslims as "infidels" who are going to hell. If you stripped out all the religious dogma, what you mean is that you were brought up in an environment which prommoted values such as trust, truth, honesty and equity. All our children deserve the best possible education, and not one which relies on the religous beliefs of their parents.
  20. Anyone know the best place to buy smokeless fuel or logs? So tired of paying ?5 for a tiny bag of sodden briquettes or logs from the petrol stations. (And how come if logs are on sale if they are illegal to burn in the area?)
  21. No, just got a pedantic/neurotic streak that I try very hard to keep under control (although I have just sharpened all the pencils in my house and lined them up in a nice row, so read into that what you will...)
  22. Thats a great shout Nero, probably deserves a thread of its own. The wildlife centre is a hidden gem!
  23. RP - two spaces after a full stop is a hangover from typesetting in victorian days and has not been needed since the invention of the word processor...
  24. I saw her once outside the station (well it was the week before the election...) She also rang up my wife and personally tried to persuade her to vote. Its a bit unnerving when you pick up the phone and someone says "Hi, its Tessa Jowell here...)
  25. Religious schools foster intolerance, bigotry and divide communities. Spadetownboy why not allow your child to make up his/her own mind about their faith instead of forcing your own beliefs on them? 2+2=4 no matter what the religion of the teacher...
