Query: Year 1 - taking a week out in term time
standswithfist replied to standswithfist's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks everyone. Its an unavoidable mistake but will need to take her out. I'm not too fussed as it is Year 1 and so far she is doing really well. Plus what she will benefit from that week is a lot greater (IMO) than a week in school. So have contacted school got the form just need to fill it out and write a letter. Fingers crossed it will be ok but I am more than happy to pay the fine on this occasion. -
we have cats and when we used the litter trays i would always bag it up and put it in the green bins. I'm not actually sure where there are public bins but think that would be really off (no pun intended!)

itas awful on Friern Road too. after a week away up north where the streets were clean it was really noticable coming back to ED how dirty and poo soiled the pavements are!

April/May we have my partners mum and sister visiting from New Zealand. Are there any places that rent out rooms by the week? A hotel would be too expensive for us. We only have a 2 bed flat and 2 kids and NO space so thinking maybe of renting somewhere out. Any suggestions GREATLY received. Thanks SWF.

Toddler christmas carol events?
standswithfist replied to AnyaJoeli's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Beth - where do we find the Christmas Tree on the 18th Dec? I've never been before! -
Unbeliable at the DMC! For 2 and a half weeks i've been phoning at 8am to try to get appointment and none available. I've ended up having to wait until the weekend to take myself and my daughter to SELDOC (who are unbeliebably helpful, wonderful, call you within the hour seen in the next couple of hours. Called again today to try to get any appointment - if i have to wait then so be it. NO APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE FOR THE REST OF THIS MONTH OR DECEMBER!!! Will be reading up reviews of where else to go and register my family now. its appaling to be unable to get an appointment until January - except they won't book them as they haven't gone onto the 'system' yet. !

do any charity shops pick up clothes?
standswithfist replied to sleepy-li's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have just used these https://www.clothesforcharity.org.uk/ to pick up clothes for charity as I do not have a car and had a huge amount of clothes that i wanted to donate. It is fast, efficient and works a treat. And you get to choose your own charity that you wish to help. Worth taking a look. No i'm not affiliated with them, I dont work for them or know anyone who works for them. -
I'm posting here incase there are any mums who can recommend a good person to do a good spray tan preferably at home? Thanks in advance.

How ruthless are you about clearing out toys...?
standswithfist replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I kept trying to empty my daughters toys out (she is aged 5) as her younger brother (aged 16 months) now has toys too! so i got Nana to come down - far more ruthless and hardcore than me. It went a bit like: DD - no nana i really need that broken bit of toy Nana - this one? the one you haven't played with for a year DD - yes nana its very important Nana - shoves it in the bin Brilliant! -
To slow cooker or not to slow cooker
standswithfist replied to ACBP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I made this on Monday. I put it on high for 3 hours then left it for approx 7 hours on low and the meat was melting. SOOOOO yummy! http://www.slowcookerqueen.com/category/slowcookerrecipes/kids-2/ this one above is one of the best sites. I used to follow her blog on twitter when she started out slow cooking and she has experimented so that we don't have to! Some fantastic recipes here - i've linked the ones the kids like. -

i agree with all the above. last night i finally got some sleep as Calpol is my new friend. The baby is teething (nappy rash/temperature etc) and luckily he had become cranky before I got home from school. So the first time he woke up he got calpol and teetha and then only woke once more. I feel like a new woman today! I can't wait till i get my daughter in her bedroom full time and the boy back in his cot. but baby steps and all that. I also meant to say that going to the park is fab. the highlight of my kids weekend this weekend will be going to the park to pick conkers. i don't think i can manage much more but i know they will love it. Sending hugs X -

don't feel like you are on your own. i have a nearly 6 year old and a 15 month old both sleep with me and i'm existing on coffee. i work full time also. all i can say i i can't do cc as i can't bear the crying. but teething has him up up to 5 times a night. my job is stressful and my partner manages a restaurant so i am effectively on my own at night. i dread the nights and today ive been looking at sleep seminars to see if i can get any tips. not found anything i can attend yet! hang in there when the 6yr old was nearly 4 she was finally sleeping through even if it was with me. good luck and message me anytime even if it is to vent X -

Starting school tips from mums who've been there
standswithfist replied to JJSP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used the labels4kids and they have been fantastic and not come out in the wash (and my washing machine is constantly on the go!). Also the snacking - oh my word its like they become bottomless pits where food is concerned. I tried the whole - lets read a book together after school to chill out and it was a nightmare. As someone else said earlier they have been doing things all day quite regimented they just need to let off steam when they get home. TV helped for a bit and in the good weather she has been out all the time playing. letting off steam. And definately definately ask your teachers questions if you are stuck/unsure and don't take no for an answer and don't let them make you think you are being pushy. I'm so glad i pushed and pushed - cause no one else will get that info for you. good luck! and go easy on yourself too. I missed my daugher so much i cried on the first and second day but before I knew it it was time to pick her up! Its change all round! -
Sudden bedwetting in a 5.5yr old
standswithfist replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Belle - so sorry to hear this as it must be quite stressful. My daughter - same age as your boy - has over the last week to 2 weeks started with the nightmares and getting up in the night and being generally scared. Getting up in the night too to go to the toilet even though she has been just before bed. I had thought it was the stress of going back to school and going up a year which i tried to broach and then wish i hadnt! (she got very upset and cried, saying didn't want to leave reception). She did it again last night and refused to go to sleep unless she slept with me holding my hand last night (her on one side baby on the other!). I would try the doctors to see if it is an infection perhaps. Other than that cant offer much other help as i'm also at a loss as to what to say or do to take the stress away. X -
if you haven't already then start advertising for a new position! She is out of order! One of my babysitters is an au pair and her host mother is also horrid. i'm helping her look for a new position. Its a pity they don't realise what a valuable important role you do.

I had an altercation at Goose Green park a few years back - I was there with my daughter who was 3 and a half - a young group of kids playing on their bikes and climbing on the big tower where the ropes are - they were aged around 9/10/11yrs old. They kept swearing and spitting infront of my daughter. I asked them to kindly stop swearing and spitting around my daughter. They laughed and one of them told me where to get off. I said don't be rude. He spat at me - infront of my daughter/rest of playground. I said to him he deserved a good slap for being so rude. he said i'm telling my parents. I said good go and get them and i'll speak to them. They all rode off. Then came back and it was shocking the state of the parents who were swearing and saying they were going to smash my face in. His dad was feral and came up to my face threatening to smash my face in. Some of the parents called the police. The mum then said to me yeah call the police i've got friends inside and i'll tell them you are a kiddy fiddler. With parents like this i'm not surprised he acted like he did. The police turned up and had to escort me home as i was so shook up and scared (they threatened to follow me home and smash my kid and myself and my house up) so the police escorted them away and then escorted me home. My daughter did not stop crying for a whole hour from when the man came up to me threating me. I stopped going there for a year. I go now regularly again as i now have a 1 year old and my daughter is now 5 and I would say the same again to anyone. Don't swear or spit its rude and dont do it in front of my kids. I dont care where you come from manners cost nothing. And if that means i'll get threatened again then so be it.
