  1. Crime-wise that it is not one of the areas not too far away like Kennington or Brixton or Camberwell or Peckham or Crystal Palace. That it has more of a Community feel and has Lordship Lane, with all it offers.
  2. Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There is a one in the year. We know what that > means . Yes ! Tottinham will concentrate on the Cup and acquire Vertigo when they realise where they are in the Prem. and drop like a stone. Wet Spam will return to their rightful. They will be "bubbling under" like a No. 41 record and leave the Prem. Charts altogether. "Scottie" Parker United will leave for a bigger Club like Nottingham Forest.
  3. Looks like a hero emerged in this saga that I myssed at the time i.e. Dahr Kadiye. "The ransom, believed to be in the region of $740,000 (?460,000) is made up of funds given by the Chandlers' family, Somalia's government and the Somali community in Britain. Mursal Kadiye said: ?The whole Somali community here in London are very happy and we very delighted. There is also relief. ?We want to thank the Somali community, Dahir himself, the Somalia government and everyone who was involved in this.? Tremendous effort from Dahr and others. Well Done !
  4. Paul ( Gazza ) Gascoigne turned up at the Raoul Moat siege and said in an interview afterwards "He's killed someone, which is not nice, really... He's a lovely bloke".... Rather like saying Hitler was a tad "unpleasant"...::o
  5. Having been brought up in Council accommosation like most of my peers I feel I know something about this. Firstly I'm thinking back to the halcyon days of 25/30 years ago when my next door neighbour was a Dustman for Southwark Council and would, begrudgingly, leave for work around 5.30AM, by 9.15-9.30am he was back home after a "hard" shift and the thought of him leaving his secure accommodation would have sent Fred and his poor wife Ivy into a early grave. Most neighbours had the same mindset, they were "lifers" and no mistake. Fast forward to 2010 and I have just returned from my friends Council flat near The Old Vic and Waterloo Station. She has been busy musing how few hours she must work to retain all her benefits. She has settled on "around 15/16 per week" . She has no intention of leaving. Ever . Another friend tried "working" for 2 months once and decided she didn't like it. Too inconvenient! The second friend is a 30-year-old Mother of 2 children with no Father around she currently gets her ?750 p.m. paid by Lewisham Council and the idea of re-entering the workplace would horrify her. She is on the verge of a Transfer to better accomodation and she feels she deserves it and who am I to argue. She has worked for a total of 2 months in her life but I re-assured her that most of us are delighted to subsidise her and pay her rent every month by getting up at 6.00/7.00AM and doing a full weeks work. Seems to spend most of the week getting her nails or hair done. A girl has got to look good ! We must never forget "troopers" like them!
  6. Huguenot Wrote: > As for woman being carrying less baggage than > lady, well I've never been insulted for being a > 'lady' but more than once for being a 'woman'. Can I ask the most stupid q. ever on this Forum Huguenot ? Are you female ? I've been intrigued by your comments for a long time on here, long b4 I decided to contribute as Simonet, and if true, I never knew and am astonished without being facetious in any way.

On point "a" if I take your point, literally, I'm incredulous. Its impossible not to have realised that in Alf Garnett's day it was "coloured" and now, it has been to a successful degree, reclaimed. I agree with Sean that if either word is said by someone in a certain tone or manner it can be equally unpleasant. On point "b" I agree entirely I don't regard it as patronising or deneaning any more than "Actress" is to denote gender.
  9. Fascinating debate. So is Jo Brand a Comedian or Comedienne or the token Woman on most panel shows who has been selected purely to balance the Comic gender profile of any programme that she has appearred on? That's balanced from the usual 4/0 to 3 to1 or 5/0 to 4 to1. Question are there any Males on this Forum who can, honestly, tell me that they find Jo Brand funny as I have yet to meet one, ever. ? On the gender thingy think how lucky Women are as they can be a Chairman or ChairWoman or Chairperson or Chair. I've seen all of these titles bestowed on Women at some point or other. Life ain't fair, sometimes.:(

    Most unseemly.
  11. You definitely did the right thing. I really wish that I was a bigger Guy as I would have great fun when that is allied to my sense of the ridiculous. I would have gone into a counter rant asking him where my errant brother was who was late for the Tea that I have made him. When I'm asked for money in the street I often ( but not always) reply "I was just about to ask you M8!)...LOL

RosieH please watch last weeks episode "Act Normal" on BBCI Player and THEN tell me she is not the new Queen of Comedy!! Our latest National Treasure etc....:) If its one thing its not, its utter bobbins...
  14. Great Musician and survivor but not a favourite of mine as he has cost me money on more than one occasion. Several times put some dosh on him at work in our Annual "Death List-Most Likely" and I thought 5/1 odds was more than fair, three times now.:X He who lives longest laughs longest or summat like that. Next year I'm on Ronnie Biggs and that Lebanese chappie. P.S. Not that I'm bitter and twisted but he can live until he's 100 now. He ain't getting any more of my hard-earned!:-S
  15. A genuine successor to French and Saunders/Catherine Tate and going right back to Joycw Grenfell. Miranda is a terrific Clown in the happy and comedic sense who is not afraid to take risks and make herself appear foolish, which she is, obviously, far from. Great timing. marvellous "confidences" to the viewer/audience and plays her part in her feature series at just the right pitch. Her performances with the excellent Pamela Hodge are worth watching for alone. If these 2 don't win awards for the current series I will be amazed. She also seems a genuinely pleasant and decent person. Very likeable. I'm pleased as well, as all my funniest people have been Male for Decades from Peter Sellers to Leonard Rossiter to The Pythons to The Blackadder Boys to Steve Coogan alongside Tommy Cooper, Morecambe and Wise, Bob Monkhouse, Paul Merton, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and more latterly Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and if I cate to think about it probably many others. Miranda-"Such Fun"..>:D<
  16. Mine came up as equal proportions of Wonderwoman, Wondergirl, Superwoman and The Bionic Lady which is all very well but my stubble and Adams Apple seem to convey something different. Confused, East Dulwich Fringes.
  17. Quite frankly with such a well-constructed, insightful and slightly mysterious introductory technique, I fear you are about to be inundated with replies from eager and willing Females. Its surely only a matter of time. Hope you can handle the inevitable deluge.
  18. Fantastic news! Don't keep her out of your sight now. :)

Thank You for the welcome Guys.
  23. End Of The Rainbow at The Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall. Tracie Bennett portrays Judy Garland in her fimal years, both on-stage and in her traumatic life. An envirogorating and quite emotional evening that will blow you away.

    a joke

I hear the ConDems are going into advertsing and introducing a market leading condom. "ConDem Condoms...Because just like the government, however much they want to split...they won't!"
  25. "What's happened to Freud is that he has moved from being a fantastic 20th Century Guru to an adjective".... Fair attempt at a cover-up Andy!(tu)
