  2. Was in lounge ten minutes ago and saw red mail van outside - assumed they were delivering nearby. Walked out of lounge and "nobody-in" card left on doormat. There is no way they rang the bell or I would have heard it. Anybody else had this problem?
  3. I expect if you've got a dodgy credit card you can hire one and not return it without worrying about losing your deposit. Personally i think anyone who can cycle a Boris bike over Denmark Hill without stopping for a rest deserves to keep it. 4. This was a woman. When i told her we already donated to other charities she wanted to know who and how much. She then told me that my neighbours had signed up so i should as well. When I said no she then asked to speak to my wife*. It felt like very hard-sell, foot-in-door, double-glazing salesman tactics. *I'm not objecting to this because I make the financial decisions, as I don't. I objected to this because it felt like she wanted to work her way through the household until she could persuade someone to sign up. goosey-goosey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We had a Unicef campaigner knock on the door just > after the election telly bash started this evening > (so rather late). 5. Did anyone have a visit from a UNICEF person recently? Maybe I was not in the mood but easily the most aggressive person i've ever had on my doorstep. And that's including duster sellers.
  6. Thanks for the reassurance. As it happens I had to pop over to my elderly mother at the weekend to fix her cistern and took a couple of screwdrivers with me so this was on my mind again. i would imagine the chances of getting a conviction for finding a tiny screwdriver in the glove compartment would be pretty slim. And as it happens I often carry a small swiss army penknife with me, which i assume is legal but could probably do more damage in the wrong hands. rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > sandyman Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > A while ago i had a problem with the lock on my > > car door. 7. A while ago i had a problem with the lock on my car door. The AA man showed me how to open the door with a screwdriver but warned me that if i was found carrying a screwdriver I could be charged with something (carrying a offensive weapon?). 8. Bit of a longshot but my bike was stolen from Herne hill station some time last week. It was a pretty knackered Ridgeback with a very torn seat so the only thing that is worth anything are the wheels. I was just thinking they may have been removed and the frame dumped - if anyone happens to spot an abandoned frame - or an abandoned bike please let me know. thanks PS. I've looked on Gumtree/ebay and i know about buying dodgy bikes in East End.
  9. Hang on - am I being a bit dense or does that mean if someone has two cars and parks car A in their drive and car B in front of their drive across their dropped kerb a warden could ticket car B because they wouldn't know whose car it was? (advance excuse, I've had a long day).
  10. MGJ 537L - although I imagine the first thing they've done is switched plates as CCTV cameras can flag up stolen vehicles. kford Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What's the reg?
  11. I know this is the longest of long shots but our camper van was stolen overnight from Beauval Road. If anyone saw/heard anything at the time or has seen it around please PM us. Here's a picture - it's pretty distinctive. And pretty.
  12. I'm curious too. I saw silver van towed away then when I went out there was a lot of white 'gunk' on the back of my car as if there had been a shoot out with Bugsy Malone-style splurge guns.
  13. Maybe the Council has a joblot of yellow paint they need to use. https://dfijamiesamman.wordpress.com/2010/11/03/double-yellow-madness/double-yellow-small2/

Ours were on a residential > street so they were easy targets. Not sure how effective a deterrent CCTV is - my bike was locked up inside Herne Hill station next to ticket machine right in front of CCTV when the bog standard front wheel was removed. All caught on camera.
  15. I've been told by a ticket collector that if you have to queue for more than five minutes you are entitled to board the train without a ticket without paying a fine. (can't find this info in writing though so you'll have to do it at your own risk!) > When there's only one ticket machine and there's a > queue or a confused person having trouble with it > (happens all the time) you can end up with a > choice of travelling without a ticket or missing a > train (that may set you back by an hour, given > connections). >
  16. Anyone had someone ring their bell and ask if a cab had been ordered* when the door was answered? We had one this afternoon and for some reason it didn't feel right. *it hadn't
  17. Hi Strange thing has happened today. I posted a set of keys in SE22 to someone in Essex earlier this week and when they received them the jiffy bag had been opened ? and two sets of keys were in it! Bit of a long shot, but if you have sent a set of keys/or are expecting a set DM me with with description. Sounds like one for Derren Brown.
  18. Got letter for him with our address on it.
  19. Do you or the police have any ideas how they make their getaway? Do they have a car or do they take things small enough to get into a rucksack and walk away with them? I often see people just sitting in their cars doing nothing during the day. I wouldn't assume they are up to no good but if burglars are using cars I'll keep a sharper lookout. 20. I don't know if this is something for Admin, but are random threads disappearing from the site and if so why? I saw a thread about a week ago about someone overhearing 'burglars' talking outside their flat which I can't now find and today a thread that I started myself about new films in SE22 seems to have vanished.

  23. Typical - you wait ages for a film featuring SE22 then two come out on the same day. If you like very low budget British comedies you'll spot Lordship Lane in both SuperBob and the somewhat weirder Aaaaaaaaaah!
