  1. Well this is exciting. We paid our ?25 subs last week and are still waiting for a sticker to put on our brown bin. Except that we now no longer have a brown bin...
  2. I usually find that when the volume inexplicably goes down it's because i'm sitting on the remote! Seriously though, if you have a good up-to-date Tv buying a sound bar might be a simple solution - I've only just heard about them myself but I think they are basically speakers for TVs and much cheaper than buying a new TV.
  3. Sorry, still confused by this system. We haven't subscribed yet so don't have a sticker, nor do we have a small food caddy despite requesting one in April so last week we had to put our food (no garden waste) in big brown bin. It wasn't taken last Tuesday so we contacted Southwark via their "missed collections" page last Wednesday and were told it would be dealt with in two days. Still haven't heard back, food now rotting in the heat still in big brown bin. What are the chances of it being taken on the next round? Are we just unlucky or are others experiencing similar issues? And as a postscript - if they don't take the food in big brown bins, what will they do with it when they come to remove our bin as we haven't subscribed?
  4. Confused - please help. We haven't received sticker yet or a small food caddy (applied for many weeks ago)so put food waste in big bin but not taken away by dustmen yesterday...

Yes, that's what I used and it seemed to work for me the one time i used it - they gave me a code in the surgery then i registered and made the appointment at home about a week later. Maybe they registered me for it when i first went in. Not tried it since, but just t complicate matters further, when I later phoned them to ask for a referral for an annual blood test they gave me a completely different link to contact them about that - http://www.mgmp.co.uk/
  6. Try booking an appointment online - i made an appointment a while ago by phone and the earliest date they could give me was two weeks away. A few days before the date i realised I couldn't make it so went online to reschedule and i was actually given an earlier day! You'll have to call the surgery to get a code to register to do it online but once you have it it seems easier and faster.
  7. "Food waste, which will remain free for collection, should be put in a new food waste bin that the council will shortly be delivering to you. This will be much smaller than the brown bin and so hopefully should not create too much additional clutter." so people that pay for the garden waste service will now have four bins in their front garden. And they won't even be matching sizes. Lovely. If food and garden waste end up going to same place why have the smaller caddy if you've paid for the bigger one?
  8. I'm not sure where it says this but I've been told that when a delivery is signed for RM rules state that the signature must be readable - they usually seem to be satisfied with any old sguiggle.
  9. Yesterday I received a card for a missed tracked delivery which had to be signed for so I arranged for a redelivery on Saturday when I knew I'd be in. Just got in and it's been delivered today(Friday), it was just put through the letterbox, not signed for. Can't decide whether this is good service or appalling service. It's getting to the stage now where I'm just happy to get deliveries without having to hike to Highshore road.
  10. The 12 used to go all the way to Notting Hill Gate. Even though it was a Routemaster then it was still an epic journey. Worst experience I had recently was getting on a 176 at elephant. Driver changed on Walworth road outside Edwards bikes so we were advised to switch to the 40 behind. One stop later at Camberwell Green that also decided to wait while drivers changed and the 176 breezed past...
  11. Feel free to vent but if you don?t like cycling, driving, crowds, walking from train to underground maybe south London life isn?t for you! But as I said, do vent, I feel your pain! FWIW I?d get a crappy bike, leave it at herne hill, get overground to Victoria and walk. Less than 45 mins, no waiting for snail-like buses, bosh. Or as suggested earlier do some bus hopping - at least it?s cheaper than when u had to pay every time.
  12. Royal Mail bang to rights on this occasion. See picture - apologies for quality - it says "Delivered by Royal Mail" Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > sandyman Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > I've just got home to find a package addressed > to > > me that was too big to fit in letterbox. 13. I've just got home to find a package addressed to me that was too big to fit in letterbox. Not on doorstep, no red card left, package was on wheelie bin on the street - on the day the bin persons come. I guess I should consider myself lucky it wasn't nicked or thrown in the dumper.
  14. There was a red van parked outside our house for quite a while yesterday afternoon. I don't know what they were doing but a while after they had gone i went outside and picked up a soaking wet letter on the pavement for a house down the road. It looked like Wimbledon Football tickets - I hope the match hasn't happened yet!
  15. I've just ordered something from Virgin Media which I've been told should arrive within seven days. They obviously don't know what SE22 deliveries are like at the moment. Just as a sidebar, I'm not a lawyer, but in the recent David Beckham speeding case it seems as if one of the keys to his defence was the fact that the notice to prosecute did not arrive in time. If only he lived in SE22 maybe he wouldn't have had to employ lawyer Nick "Mr Loophole" Freeman to defend him, just point the DVLA in the direction of this thread. "Mr Freeman suggested the... matter could have been a case of poor postal service, citing a subsequent letter sent first class by Bentley to Scotland Yard which took eight days to arrive." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-45668735
  16. Fed Ex, DHL etc leave parcels with neighbours if nobody is in. I don't think Royal Mail does this but why not? I presume they would argue that it might add to their posties' workload but not as much as their workload will increase if everyone asks for re-deliveries because they can't bear to go to the Peckham office.
  17. Quite often had red cards through door when I was home and didn't mind the stroll to Sylvester Road to get me out of the house. If it now means going to Peckham because they aren't doing their job properly that's another matter... 18. Received a package Saturday evening through letterbox. Should've been signed for but postie didn't even ring bell. I guess they just wanted to finish round as quickly as possible. Can't say I blame them as it currently feels like an omnishambles.
  19. I think I may have seen him carrying a large crate full of what I presume was dusters etc near to Dulwich Library earlier. One thing I've noticed is that these sales people don't go door-to-door to every single house. Is there a reason for selecting particular houses or do they only do a few in each street so that they can get away quickly if necessary.
  20. Is this regarding an insurance claim? A few years ago some slates blew off our roof and we put in a claim. An assessor came all the way from somewhere like Swindon, opened his computer, looked at the windspeeds on the night in question and said we weren't covered - I can't remember whether it was because it was too windy or not windy enough butI don't know why he couldn't have googled "weather" from his desk in Swindon rather than come all the way to SE22 to do it.
  21. Just had to negotiate the curious left-then-rightish-turn from Turney Road to Calton Avenue. do people actually get paid for coming up with road layouts like this?
  22. Thanks - yes I've seen that, but as you say it only goes from Liverpool Street and does take 30 mins longer (assuming no traffic hold-ups). Normally I'd go to Brixton and pick up the stansted express at Tottenham Hale. The other option is going to Stratford by train/tube and getting a Terravision coach from there - it's cheaper and probably a bit faster too. ------------------------------------------------------- > If you check National Rail they are running a bus > every 15 minutes from Liverpool Street to Stansted > Airport. 23. Bit of a longshot but just found out Stansted express is not running this Sunday January 7. Need at be at airport by 9am, just wondering if anyone else driving or taking cab to airport at that time. Happy to pay share of fare. thanks
