Autumn Babies 2015 (Sept, Oct, Nov)
landellsrd replied to MarianaTrench's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi ladies- I'm due end of Sept and have a DS who is now 2! I'd really love to meet other mums who are on baby number 2 (and fiest time mums too) so that's great that there seem to be a few of us second timers on here. I can't make the 25th but would love to meet up at the next one. Thanks so much for starting this group, it's exactly what I was looking for!! -
southwark council service charge
landellsrd replied to fredbear's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
How can they legally bill you based on only leasholders splitting the TOTAL cost of works to a block with some leasholders and some ouncil tenants? There has been a rumour for ages they wanted to do the windows at our estate and it would cost us leasholders ?30k EACH. My flat does not have ?30K worth of potential windows, unless they were made out of gold with diamond studs. -
We've had him round, do you think its a scam? Any more information? We thought it was just a lottery syndicate!

red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The houses that replaced the timber yard on Barry > Road, aka when pastiche vernacular goes wrong... this gets my vote. in fact either side of Underhill at Barry Rd.. how ugly can new builds get?

Dulwich Medical Centre - Any good?
landellsrd replied to Juliette&Rich's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
DMC - any good?? In a word: NO they are awful. You will never get an appointment, unless you fancy going in there at 8am. There is only ONE doctor that everyone is registered under. I've just been offered an appointment for this week but I guess that's becasue they are charging me ?25 to write me a 'fit to fly' letter, so of course they can find an appointment for something that makes them money. I am transferring as soon as I can. -
Best pizza in London, let alone SE is at The Gowlett. FM Mangal also gets my vote, Camberwell. Great meatloaf (!) at Homemade.. Very good pub food at The Victoria Best 'foodie' experiences: Gangapati and The Begging Bowl Best burger: The Shake Shack in NYC (but apparently they are opening soon in central London!!)

My dog was attacked this morning - near Goose Green

It's never ok to have a Rottie off the lead. They are unstable dogs who often have questionable breeding. Staffies are by nature lovely dogs (by nuture is another matter) but Rottweilers are most definitely a dangerous breed. If you see one, on or off a lead I reccomend giving it a wide berth. They are particularly dangerous around children. You can never trust a Rottie. I dont even care that that sounds so immutable, I feel so strongly about that breed. -
i'd consider camberwell instead. 15 minutes walk to ED if you fancy the cafe's and shops/ parks and more young at heart with loads of frequent nightbuses from all over london. much younger and trendier. i lived in west hampstead for a year when i was in my early 20's and god it was boring. ED is in general a bit more middle-aged. also camberwell will be cheaper. good luck whatever you decide.

E.D.Station controlled parking zone
landellsrd replied to joobjoob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
whatever James Barber. You and I both know that you meant 'wink wink nudge nudge we all know women cant drive but even my wife can park a car in a 5m space.' I dont care what further you have to say on the matter. Has anyone else noticed that all you do is DEFEND the scheme? Your mind is fully made up. You're not taking anyone's points into consideration you just answer them in such a way as to defend the scheme. Sounds like a foregone conclusion to me that we're going to get CPZ whether we like it, want it, or not. I'd like to point out while I live in SE22 but out of proposed zone, I am against the CPZ and I never have or ever do plan to drive to the station, park my car and commute anywhere. Good luck getting re-elected. -
E.D.Station controlled parking zone
landellsrd replied to joobjoob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James- "Hi chener books, My wife runs the family car and she can park it within 5m. Amazing parker. " I dont really appreciate your thinly veiled sexism. You and Cherner Books might find it hilarious (or maybe Cherner Books isnt that pathetic, in which case your attempt at 'buddying up' to him has fallen kinda flat) but I dont. I'm completely against the CPZ, I live outside the zone but still in SE22 and my reason is that it WILL expand to include all of ED and that will change the easy comfortable way we all go about our lives, visiting the shops and cafes, visiting friends, getting the kids to and fro, working hard etc. I have also lived under a CPZ and paid almost every year ?100 when my car was clamped at 6am the very 1st day my permit expired. It was usually some odd day like April 17th and I never remembered. Add to that the worry and faff of any friends visiting, oh do i have any permits, and deliveries or tradespeople.. etc. It's not nice, trust me. It's one more part of your life controlled by rules and regulations. So it wont affect my street, at first- but it's only a matter of time until it will- in Brixton it expanded and expanded and expanded to where Elm Park Road (a 25 minute walk to the station) was engulfed. I do vote in local elections and my vote will NOT be going to any party that supports this scheme. -
i think the debate about where and how Pedro executes his shop is more interesting than slagging each other off ruthlessly and endlessly (whilst mildly entertaining... sometimes it gets a bit depressing, no? and a bit like bullying? - sorry i admit i was an early adopter by calling SF a snob.) I like the guys idea of the underground shop on LL.. another lady said she would prefer minimalist interiors, clean lines etc.. what im trying to say is that Pedro is thinking of opening a shop. regardless of whether YOU would get a tattoo, what kinds of IDEAS might you have as to how the shop could be a bonus to the community of ED? as i say, one poster said something about records, hanging out.. another guy wants a shop where he can get laid around the back whilst browsing for zimmer frames.. sounds interesting.. would anyone go to a shop to browse/ hang out if it was an interesting place? Buy some stuff and if so what stuff? I would. is there a way this could appeal to the famous ED mummy brigade? tatts for babies? On their faces? :)

thats a frankly disgusting thing to say, what a snob. --- sorry i was referring to SilverFox's comment that it was all a bit 'Peckham.' how vile. I think it would be a great idea ONLY if the shop was done well, so a bit 'Hope and Greenwood.' If it was a trendy tattoo parlour then people from all of South London would come to get inked, lets be honest, how much passing trade would you expect whenever you are? people normally think quite seriously before having a tattoo. So, to recap- do the shop up with taste and flair and it will be a real talking point and attract artistic, fashionable people as well as the more regular football tattoos etc.. Avoid strip lighting, laminate flooring and the like. If your parlour is cool then people might come in to browse and you can sell other items, like jewelery, magazines and art books etc. Heck, why not have a vintage espresso machine and serve macchiatos and biscotti? - lord knows people come with a mate/ boyfriend and they have to wait hours while their friend is tatted up. Make it like a cool salon that people want to come in, be a part of, hang out. And of course get them to spend money on the extras, like Art/ Photography books, ect etc.. Then you aren't reliant solely on people who want tattoos. If it's a slow day for tattoo's its still a good business day for selling books, artworks etc. Keep the theme vintage/ traditional tattoo style. Have a look at these shops in the East End. http://www.thefamilybusinesstattoo.com/ http://www.happysailortattoo.com Actually go in and experience them. Think lush interiors, vintage lighting, old apothecary cabinets holding jewelry, lovely old standing lamps, Edwardian mirrors... who knows, the choice is endless as to how you furnish it but basically I think a really really cool tattoo parlour would be a total compliment to the William Rose Butchers and Hope and Greenwoods and all other independent clever unique retailers that ED has to offer. Cheers! :)
