  1. So - that's the Oglander then??!
  2. Hopefully they will go the same way as the Grove in Balham, which had a face lift and is now superb. Not gastro, just good youngs farm fare and a few good wines / beers
  3. Probably the same family who spent the whole night yelping on Hillcourt Rd. They are vermin and need to be shot (cute or not).
  4. The people buying these are victims of the highest order. The anya bags are already on ebay at ?60. madness
  5. If you can't stand 5 yr olds - why do you live in ED where they make up 50% of the population??
  6. Why Thai?? Because I travel to Italy a lot and often need a bit of spice back on my palette without the full curry overload experience! Italian food is ok, but its really unadventurous at times. I travel to the same few areas admittedly, but trust me, there is only so much cheese, parma ham and pannini I can face! Malay / Viet etc would also be lovely!
  7. Over the Easter weekend, the wife and I visited Sema. The food was pretty awful (the flavouring was as subltle as a chilli mallet on the tongue), as was the Gerwutztraminer which was actually a dry white plonk rebottled (it had to be sent back). The starters were just about edible, the chicken used in the cooking was preformed 'chunks', the mains we left. We paid for the wine and starters and left. I am hoping this is a unique and rare occurance, but am bemoning the lack of quality Thai food in Dulwich. The Thai Pavillion had me up all night in a monosodium fever and the Thai corner is ok (cheep & cheerful). Can anyone suggest a local place with really good food (quality food and ingredients preferred over stylish interior and thai-by-numbers cooking). Cheers.
  8. We have Dulwich Mum, Posh Mum and now Scruffy Mummy, all of whom are blogging their lives away... Where however, is the elusive but oh-so-desirable yummy mummy? Maybe we need to look towards Clapham for her?
  9. I think that despite its grade II status, this building should really be consigned to the scrap heap. Architectural heritage is very important, but does this building really require saving? If a building is not economically viable or practical to use either as business or residential, it should move on to make use for a building than can be used. I am more in favour of high density metropolitan areas than urban sprawl into green belt or parkland. We must realise that there are too many people in London as it is (see recent ED house price debates - mainly caused by lack of suitable housing stock). Knock it down and build some badly needed accomodation for young couples who can't afford ?500k 3-bed terrace houses. Also - a footnote. English Heritage make repairing or renovating a listed building such a logistical and financial nightmare, most owners give up and let the property fall appart. If EH were a bit more enlightened, then a lot of these buildings would develop, flourish and remain utilised. They do - of course - do a lot of good work, what I am saying is that they are so unflexible that the Lordship lane situation is becoming more common.
  10. Also - the Mot place in Peckham is the nearest motorbike place. Its on the 1 way bit near the carpark. Open saturdays. Really nice indian couple - she has a vespa painted in cow spots.
  11. Try http://www.diabloscooters.co.uk/ they come to you. Prices are good and excellent service. I work in C london and he comes to repair / fit my vespa on a regular basis.
  12. Our neighbours (not on this forum and they have recently left ED) have also had their card cloned - a company card very rarely used, and by chance - that month in only one place. It was a garage and it was a black one.... Actually - I need more petrol I'll ask the garage about it tonight.
  13. I used to work for an H&M supplier years ago. At that time small children are used as workers in its supply chain. Maybe not in factories, but picking cotton in the fields etc. Don't get me started on Primark. Shame the entire chain didn't burn down - and it was just the warehouse..
  14. bald bloke is manager - did manage the Oak in clapham b4 getting booted out. drives a massive range rover. say no more. clearly a c**t.
  15. Hmm. Was hoping to keep a local, low profile. National rags not my scene. The quote was accurate - but it was a thread that was quite rightly ignored by most of you as it was a blatant attempt to incur the wrath of more established residents.... I was bored.. sorry! So, lets talk about house prices again. I'm not happy about the plateau in house prices mentioned... I made ?3K a week on MY house last year.. anyone beat that? Discuss. :)
  16. Just one thing I noticed in the application refusal and Counciler Thomas' reply. If Nero have been turned down as a result of 50% of shops not being retail, this also means that there will be no new restaurants (nice little Italian, tapas etc). I know this is something the users of this forum support. I am getting annoyed with my fellow users and their militant approach to everything and constantly flying off in a rage. Diversity is key to Lordship lane / EDulwich. I am sure there would be no complaints if a nice family run Trattoria tried to open in place of Nero (stinky noisy extract unit not withstanding). Perspective guys pls.
  17. Do it - we moved from Clapham and love it. If you have kids, its perfect, if you don't, there is loads to do and you still get a good amount of property for your money. Great community, which is changing for better / worse depending on point of view! I would suggest you sit on the fence regarding that one on this forum! The future of ED borders also looking good, with regeneration of Forest Hill, Honor Oak, Nunhead, Peckham etc.
  18. A bit expensive, so if its a large job, Merton timber or whitten timber will save you a lot of dosh, but Mr banfield is good for smaller stuff. Also a bit hit or miss if you are looking to take away. He sometimes has to order in. Use him b4 he sells the plot for luxury flats (he must be sitting on a small forture there..)!
  19. Having worked for a high st supplier, I can tell you as fact, that anyone trying to fool themselves that stores selling 'value' ie Matalan, Primark etc even the mighty Top Shop use factories that are close to sweatshops. Any item of clothing that is value will have an elemnet of slave / child labour in it. Maybe not at the factory, but somewhere in the supply chain - for example children picking the cotton crop. Someone on this link pays ?20 for shoes.... think again.
  20. Maybe we should ban anyone who has lived in ED for more than 10 yrs or considers themselves less upwardly mobile(tu). Then we can get brag about holidays and spending money, how the little precious' are getting on and slag off the miserable old gits next door (whilst trying to buy them out and turn their houses into flats for DINKIES).:)-D
  21. did he really? cheeky sod. he is a philandering f*ckwit though.
  22. Oh come on - does anyone seriously think that there is still a real working class level in society? Particularly in London. If so, I challenge you to show me some. There is certainly a massive discrepancy in affluence, but this is not guided by social background. We are very simply - all middle class now. Is the builder who winter holidays in the carribean and quotes Proust consider himself working class? (He did my bathroom last year...) How about my office cleaner, who has just got back from Brazil? How about my mate who is an Oxbridge blue and can't get a job and can't even afford loo roll..? What about the humble black cabbies? I hear they are clearing ?100k these days... Almost as much as plumbers! Or - Louisa, are you simply bemoaning people who strive for better for themselves?!
  23. Hi its Tom from footie too. I'll have some soil too. probably about a ton will do if you have any left over... if not no worries.
