The tradition is that people visit up to the 9th day (hence you would have seen people all week) but the ninth day (i.e. last night) was the ?big one?. As a resident of Hindmans Rd I am happy to relate there should be no more gatherings.

A woman died at a fire in Peckham last week and it is at her mother?s property the wake was held. Yesterday was the ninth day after the death, and traditionally that is the big get together. Around 150 people+ attended. Why they could not be in her big garden (30meters +) rather than in the front of her house, I have no idea.

Some children have a much greater sucking need then others, and for those dummies are brilliant. If you don?t give him/ her a dummy they will eventually find something else to suck on (usually a finger), but the great advantage with dummy?s is that once they don?t need it anymore you can always remove it. If a child is sucking a finger, that habit is very hard to break.

Installing speed bumps that go across the whole road (i.e. not just small bumps in the middle of the road).

Waitrose or M&S TYPE supermarket - do we want one on LL?
Selma replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes please, the more the merrier! I would rather have a shop (even if I would not use it) than an empty premises. -
So it is Halloween today. Does anyone know when the appropriate time for Trick or Treating? Need to make sure I have a pumping with a candle at my door to welcome any dressed up children as well as sending out my own.

No use of Peckham Rye Park before 08:00
Selma replied to Selma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unfortunately I go thru the park with my son on my way to the Child minder, so I can?t squeeze through a hole in the fence with a buggy. What is ever more frustrating there is always a lot of activity early in the morning, so it?s not like there is not someone around to open. -
I am not sure I am the only one wanting to use the lovely Peckham Rye Park in the morning. It has been very frustrating that very often most of the gates towards Harris Girl school (Colyton Rd) are close (I go through it just before 08:00 every morning). So you spend a lot of time franticly trying to get out. I have tried (to no avail) to get the Parks ?official? opening hours from the council (I have had several ?someone will get back to you? but no one never does). This morning while trying to get out and run in to a park worker that was going round opening gates (he was in no rush- he was already at work). I was informed by him that the park doesn?t officially open until 08:00 and before that people are not suppose to use it (he said people do anyway, but they shouldn?t) Is it just me who thinks that a park that the council spend a lot of money on keeping up, does not open until 08:00 (that is 2h after sun rise) is a waste. There must be dog walkers/ jobbers/ people on their way to work that agree with me!

emilou, a very good way to get to Canary Warf is to cycle to Depford Bridge (or Grenwich) and take the DLR from there. Depford has plenty space to lock up your bike. It?s a great way to do it if you are new to cycling to work. To get to Depford you can either take the A2 or is to cycle through Peckam Rye Park, Cheltenham Rd, Ivydale Rd, right on Merttins Rd, St Norbert, St Malpas, Florence and then join the A2 the last bit to Depford Bridge. Should not take you more than 20 min and not too much traffic. I am 5 month pregnant, and will be cycling up to the end. If I can do it, I am sure you can!

Absolutely, find out!! It is a surprised; it?s either at the birth or at the scan (and trust me: there are enough surprises at the birth) I found out with my first and can wait to find out with my second (scan is 12th April). It is so nice petting the bump and saying he (or she) is kicking... Either way it is a personal decision, and it won?t make any difference to the end result.

Ladies: Be on the lookout (avoid this man on the train)
Selma replied to Beazo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You need to report it to the police. Even if not much will be done, they need a record of this man, so if he does something more syndical they know it is not the first time. It is after all sexual harassment. -
Now I know this is not East Dulwich, but considering the numbers of people that cycles from East Dulwich to the City that would pass them, someone might know. At the end of Canal Route, coming up to Glengall Road, there are a two ponies there and there have been for a number of weeks. The land looks like it belongs to the council and it looks like very temporary set-up for them (rope as a gate and an old water tank for their drinking water). I presume it belongs to some travelers, but maybe someone else knows more?

Goodbye Mr Patel (Mays Newsagents on Barry Road)
Selma replied to LuvPeckham's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I must say I am not at all sad to see them go. Every time I have been in there they are rude and unhelpful. I am surprised that they have managed to stay open so long as there is a excellent Newsagent just round the corner (Uplands Rd/ Hindmans Rd). -
A bit of nostalgia for some people: One of the Green Cross Code was filmed on North Cross Road.

On Dulwich Road, towards Brixton there is a sign for a Antique Shop

I am now 6 weeks pregnant and have chosen Kings. I liked the fact they are close, even walking distance away. If all goes well I will be able to let you know what they are like after 22nd September.

Does anyone know what is going on in the shop corner Uplands Road/ Hindmans Road where the old design shop used to be. The got the sign up: Celeb Samuels

I lived in Clapham for a number of years (first by Battersea Rise, then Clapham old town). I ?grew out of Clapham ? (read: I was not spending all my times/ money in pubs) and was looking at buying a house. I wanted to stay in zone 2 but still have nice restaurant and bars. Moved to ED in 2004 and have not looked back. It does have more of a ?village? feeling and is not as busy.

If they throw you off the bus, you are entitled to a ?Transfer ticket?. You need to ask the driver. Usually the driver will moan (as they have to print one for you) but stick to your guns.
