  1. I like Auchan best (just can't find any in England)
  2. Just seen Michael Gambon outside the newsagents opposite the Co-op chemists (nice silver Mercedes). Can anyone throw any light on this?
  3. Just finish the back up and switch the printer and shredder off.

That was what the doctor told my mother at the time - perhaps it's made a reappearance, after all we had nearly eradicated TB in this country until the past few years.
  6. I was one of the last people in this country to get Scarlet Fever. My grandfather fought with T E Lawrence in the 1st world war. Alvin Stardust dived into a swimming pool and nearly knocked me unconscious.

Some of the aristocracy of the 18th century lost their fortunes through their gambling. It does not matter who gambles as long as it is under control. Loss of dignity/house/family/livelihood is a tragedy no matter to whom it happens.

  9. I wanted to be the widow of a millionaire - then I wanted to be a bass player (a la Kim Deal) then I wanted to do anything except be a wage slave in an office. Of course I am a wage slave in an office.
  10. Please no - anything but Tesco or Asda.

  12. I used them when I was renting a room out in my house. I don't know if there are legal implications, but there are certain types of people that I don't think are suitable to be sharing with a single female. I didn't even want to let them in, let alone rent them a room. Sorry if that sounds awful, but when you are alone it is better to be safe than sorry.

    OMG!!

Same here at Marble Arch - better be dry by 5.00!
  14. And what will we do in this sort of situation when ED police station closes? I'd drop keys off there but I wouldn't walk down to Peckham Police Station in similar circumstances.
  15. Apparently women turn their backs on the person whilst men face them - is this true?

Be born well or marry well! Actually if you were a real 'lady' you wouldn't bother to mention it - it only causes resentment!

Until it is illegal to go to > a pub with your kids then it will continue. Very few pubs used to allow under 14's in - it was at the discretion of the landlord. I was allowed in a couple of places but under sufferance. Certainly if I'd run around shouting, crawled around under tables or basically done anything other that sit down quietly I would not have been allowed back in. My parents expected high standards of behaviour from me.

Although I agree with the sentiments expressed here - a betting shop is not a racetrack - no sunshine or picnics in there!
  19. Broken nose - several times - mainly at gigs (rucking when you are 5ft 3in is dangerous) Broken ribs - fell out of taxi 'a la Bridget Jones' Little finger - door slammed on it. Finger was the most painful by far.
  20. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't think anyone rates it Cassius, much less > over-rates it Actually some of the people who were there were very excited about it! Most of them seem to have never been to a concert before! If it was possible I would have said that the people there were handpicked to be easily pleased - and we were given our tickets by a friend of a friend from North Devon who couldn't afford to come up for it, and had she would have been overwhelmed by the occasion.
  21. Live8 concert - one of the most boring afternoon/evenings ever - I was there and I hated it!
  22. I'm going to sound really anal but I don't think I'd pick a book off a bench and read it - you wouldn't know where it had been!

  24. Accept it - no matter what your feeling about it are - it's something that not many people get and getting it will be an experience that you can share with the forum at a later date. I'm not sure if it will be a good career move though - putting it after your name on a c.v will make you look a bit of a tosser! On the other hand if you need someone who scrubs up well to accompany you to the palace just let me know..........
  25. 'Grand Designs' - new series starting tonight
