    Alcohol

I drink wine daily with my meal - and have a couple of drinks in the pub over the weekend. Government guidelines would probably indicate that I 'binge' on a regular basis and have a alcohol dependency. I on the other hand think that I enjoy the finer things in life, as I don't get drunk or suffer hangovers except on very rare occasions. I enjoy wine, and would feel my life would be a sadder and emptier place without it - does that make me an alcoholic?
  2. Classic vinyl - I'll be there........
  3. Brilliant news - something to look at during the cold and wet Bank Holiday.
  4. OK Sean - I'll just stick to 'Is Louisa for real?'
  5. Is it just the middle classes that get ripped off? Or does an establishment that doesn't live up to the expectations of its customers upset all those that use it? Surely everyone no matter what class etc etc deserves the same? Is Louisa for real?
  6. Had the problem off and on for a couple of years - I find that mothballs do work in the short run although you have to put up with the jibes about how bad you smell. Squishing them is also very therapeutic.

Ah yes The Gate - thanks for reminding me - it was driving me mad - lovely restaurant, lovely setting, great staff - wish it was in ED not in Hammersmith.
  8. see thread El Paso closed for refurbishment
  9. This is an informal local forum and when someone posts about a restaurant I want to know what sort of experience they actually had - whether good or bad. We all comment bearing in mind our own expectations and attitudes, we like/dislike different things, surely it is important to be honest. Perhaps the problem is that we all expect to have a good time when we go out to eat at a restaurant - otherwise we wouldn't have gone there, so perhaps that is why a disappointing meal can be more memorable than a good one - it's the outcome we didn't expect and therefore feel cheated.

I'm not sure that is really fair - The White Stuff is not really vile, but safe and rather unimaginative, Petals and Mrs Robinson aren't really vile - just beyond my pocket, and Chichirarawhatever seems to be very popular (isn't that meant to be a quirky bohemian vintage shop?)
  11. I've never been to Bromley and `I've lived in ED for over 20 years - if I want more mainstream shops I'll jump on a 37 and go to Clapham Junction - WH Smiths, TK Maxx, Debenhams, and more mobile phone shops than can be imagined - surely that's enough for anyone - and at TK Maxx I can actually afford to buy the occasional item of shoes/clothing.
  12. Sugared water is very sticky.........
  13. Sugaring - ouoch! Brendan - use your imagination!
  14. Shopping centre = hell on earth!
  15. Not just ED - people walk into the street blindly everywhere - it is far far worse in Peckham!
  16. I love veggie restaurants - there is a brilliant one in Hammersmith (name escapes me), which is a real restaurant, not a cafe, and it does very well. I would definitely support a similar venture in East Dulwich. There is also another really good one in Bath (Demuths??) and one near Moorgate - (also name gone in the mists of time). It is important that even if the food is veggie the ambiance is still 'restaurant' - I don't want to be on trestle tables or denied decent wines just because I choose not to eat meat.
  17. I like Gok and think he has a fantastic attitude to women of all shapes and sizes but do think having seen a couple of the programmes that they are terribly formulaic. Also I simply cannot believe that women who claim to hate themselves THAT much would strip off in public.

Soya milk - shudder..........
  19. Both car drivers AND pedestrians can both be at fault. I am sure that I have been guilty of crossing a side road without due care and attention, and I am sure that I am not the only one. However if I make a mistake I might pay with my life, if a driver makes a mistake he might pay with a broken mirror or a dent. Therefore we all just need to think first.
  20. Never done a supermarket kit - I wouldn't expect them to be up to standard. Actually only ate in El Passo once, but other London Mexican establishments have not proved very exciting in the past. I do think the chillies in Mexico are very different to the ones available here and make all the difference.
  21. Mexican food in this country is a very poor imitation of the indigenous cuisine. I was stunned at just how good food in Mexico was having only had El Passo and similar over here. Lobster filled chilli's was the one I remember best - hot on the way in and hot............
  22. Very nice roasted slowly in extra virgin olive oil, then served with shavings of Parmesan - about 30-45 minutes on low setting.
  23. I will be supporting France and Italy due to blood ties - I am really looking forward to the Euro's - no need to bite my nails worrying about how England will do.

A case or bottle of really good port/dessert wine/scotch/champagne that will be at its peak for her 18th or 21st birthday. Then she can toast you!
