  1. Louisa Say - for arguments sake that you are right - that London is the cesspole in the centre of a country that is f*cked. Where should we go and why are you not already there?
  2. Whats wrong with Middle Class punks? Like the music and the fashion but can't help your background! What was I supposed to do, move my mother into the squat with me?
  3. Why should anyone have a guilty conscience - if people are happy to spend the money on these items then everyone is happy - the customer is happy because of the supposed superiority implied in purchasing the item (if that is true) and the supplier is happy because they've made a larger profit. After all there would be no cosmetic or beauty industry at all if we followed your criteria - after what is really different between a cheap moisturiser and a really expensive one - yet the expensive brands sell because they sell hope as well and if an expensive coffee brings more happiness than a cheap one why should that be knocked - as long as there still are places where one can get cheap and cheerful. Edited to say sorry Administrator - written before your post.
  4. If we'd stuck to discussing the market this thread would never have got over 90 posts (and counting......)
  5. Or to sell - if its a good model?
  6. Actually Louisa you sound a bit like my partner on a bad day who hates in no particular order; London, England, Britain, East Dulwich, other road users especially cyclists, overpriced restaurants, Gordon Brown, the price of petrol, weak lager, the lack of choice in Threshers, the rude staff in Budgens.............

  8. I couldn't agree more Clive3300 - although I think there is something about the freshness of the ingredients that helps. I ate in a small local hotel - they make their own fresh pasta, their own bread, olive oil and their own wine - all made from local produce sourced within a couple of miles from the town. A restaurant in London simply cannot compete in that way.
  9. I refuse to commute for more than 1 hour each way tops - 10 hours a week is more than enough for the work/life balance. I would prefer to work in town but without having to cross it - near London Bridge, Blackfriars, Victoria, Charing Cross - if I worked too close to home I'd end up never going into town at all.
  10. Isn't knowing who Philip Larkin is poncey?
  11. Louisa - I like NCR market and I've lived here for over 21 years - I think it could do with a bit more diversity however and would be interested to see how expansion would accommodate all that wish to use it.
  12. My mother puts lemon juice and black pepper on her strawberries - she says it brings the flavour out!
  13. Apparently Funky Pepper are very good.......
  14. Well KK as long as you depart nicely and don't "flounce" off............
  15. Actually KK - do you not think that sometimes it is the other way around - older people who have had the misfortune to grow up with Bernard Manning and the Black & White Minstral Show tend to be quite thick skinned about humour - whilst younger people tend to think with their PC hat a little more firmly on. Obviously another stereotyped view that will be shot down in flames but also an observation.......

Like I said some are not so funny - and I tend not to be on forums that post jokes about Jews being tight or Irish being thick so avoid the issue.
  17. Many jokes reinforce stereotypes - some are funny, others are not so funny. I don't mind them particularly - its not as if they are causing real offence or upset.
  18. Rat spotted darting into the alley behind LL Carpets towards the Sikh temple mid-afternoon - hopefully just disturbed by the work done on El Paso
  19. Definitely agree with the ethnic food stalls - I love the ones at Greenwich - sushi anyone?
  20. There's always road kill - I used to eat pheasants my father had hit on Devon roads.
  21. Pasta has almost doubled in price but still represents a cheap and relatively healthy way of filling oneself up. I lived for ages on pasta and broccoli with no ill effect, ditto rice - more expensive but still cheaper than a ready meal. However I do wonder about factoring in the cost of cooking. I don't own a microwave but presume that the several minutes heating up a ready meal would cost less in energy than having several pans on the go at once.
  22. Well - I don't go to drinks or meet ups and that is entirely my choice - I am highly unlikely to meet anyone from any other forum I visit, and that suits me fine. I am not particularly open or contentious but there still might be things I've said on the forum that I might not say to people that I've only met a couple of times - therefore I prefer to keep Cassius and xyz separate and different (not that I haven't been tempted though). That doesn't mean that I don't feel a fully 'paid-up' member of the forum and will comment when interested.
  23. But if you go out and back in again you need a 3 zone card instead of a 2 zone costs quite a bit more doesn't it?
  24. I haven't felt it on this forum, but on some others I visit and have been involved in quite heated arguments that I have wanted to leave, but in the end you put quite a lot of time and energy into being a regular poster, so it's best to cool off, ignore the forum for a while and then come back when feelings have cooled down a bit.
  25. You can wait for ages for a 37 - if you are prepared to change at Camberwell as JimSmith says you could get the 176 or 40 to Camberwell and then get the 36 or 136(?) to Vauxhall too. The traffic in Brixton is a total nightmare at the moment too due to road works - probably best to avoid if possible.
