Our cat Booboo has been missing since early Sunday morning (09 March). He's a three-year-old male cat with black fur (short). He's recognisable from having very big feet - I think about two extra toes on each paw. He's very nervous of strangers and doesn't go out the front of our house - he mainly hangs out in the back gardens on our block (Goodrich/Barry/Friern Road). If you spot him please let us know (07771915355).

It can get pretty bad on our road, drives me mad. As mentioned on the previous thread though, when I've reported any to the council they've been pretty quick at cleaning it up https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking-streets-and-transport/street-care/dog-poo

Thanks, we waited and went with Turners when they opened on Monday (they were great). But good to have a recommendation.
-
My car (petrol) has broken down and I'm trying to find someone to look at it this weekend. I normally use Turners but they're not open at the weekend. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of either A.T Craig Auto Mobile Mechanic on Lordship Lane or Stars Garage on Tyrrell Rd. (I've tried searching but can't find any recommendations on here) Thanks K

Food waste bin - what is acceptable to line it with?
kristen replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I thought it was ok to line with newspaper, which is what we started doing after checking online some time ago: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/food-and-garden-waste/recycle-your-food-waste The newspaper from our bin was left behind today when the food waste was collected so maybe this isn't ok now? -
Palm tree on East Dulwich roundabout
kristen replied to kristen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think it's paper around it - it looks like plastic or a type of foil wrapping paper. I'm not sure it's going to wear away. I think the trunk of the tree is formed when the leaves of the plant drop off - so it's not bark as such. I'm worried if the material is plastic or foil it could cause the plant heat stress - or rain/moisture could get trapped behind it and cause it rot. -
Does anyone know why the palm tree on the East Dulwich roundabout - end of Lordship Lane & East Dulwich Road - is covered in what appears to be shiny wrapping paper? I wasn't sure if this had been done to protect the plant - seems unlikely - or as a joke - possibly. I'm worried it might damage the plant. I was going to check with Southwark to see if they know anything about it but thought someone on here might. Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I didn't get a ticket so hopefully I'll be ok.

Hello, Does anyone know how much the charge is for parking fines in Southwark? I parked on Grove Vale where it's free for 30 mins but I forgot to log my car on the PaybyPhone app (A traffic warden on a motorbike turned up just as I was pulling away.) Also, is there anyway to check to see if I need to pay a fine without waiting for the letter to come? The postal service is very intermittent and I'm worried that I will lose the ability to pay 50% by the time the letter arrives. Thanks K

I went out last night and there was someone else looking as well. I looked under cars and in gardens up to the top of Friern Road from Goodrich, then around the top of Friern Road (in the alleyways just after Etherow) but didn't find it unfortunately. I was hoping it had made it home.

Hello, can you say where on Friern Road, if it's injured it's possible it's hiding close by. Could you let me know which house number this was near or which section of the road? There are a few people out looking for it now and we might be able to find it. Thanks

Someone has smeared shit all over a Lime bike on Goodrich Road (handle bars, seat etc) I've reported it via there online forms but I'm not a member so unsure if they'll see if any time soon. If anyone knows of a better way to report it let me know.

We've started using diatomaceous earth (food grade) for cat fleas. There are a few videos online on how to do this. We made a little face covering for our cats, so they didn't inhale too much. It's too early to know if it's been a success but we wanted an alternative to the Advantage/Frontline because of the problems associated with it as a pollutant. One cat didn't mind the application, the other was a bit resistant but it wasn't too hard to get it on.

Advice Needed - Monday to Friday lodger
kristen replied to HeadNun's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The lodger may need some flexibility but it doesn't appear that he's been direct in asking for this. Instead he booked a train ticket without checking if the room was available. When it wasn't he put pressure on HeadNun to make the room available. He then appears to think he's owed access to the room on any day of his choosing. He seems to be arguing for what he thinks is entitled to, rather than what they agreed to. Maybe he interpreted the gesture of goodwill - being able to stay a Friday and a Sunday - as an indication things could be more flexible. Maybe he's in a difficult situation and has a pressing need for somewhere to stay at short notice. But if HeadNun has said this isn't what she is offering he can't pressurise her into doing this (which is what he appears to be trying to do). It's reasonable for him to ask or check out what flexibility there is in the contract. It's not reasonable to argue that Monday to Friday includes Sunday or refuse to listen when someone says no. If I was in this situation I'd be really anxious. Someone I've said can live in my house doesn't want to stick to an agreement we made. It's been covered in what other people have said but if he needs access on any day of the week he needs to find somewhere that offers this, and this would probably cost him a lot more. -
I've read that white feathers in crows can be due to calcium deficiency or other environmental factors.

Travelling alone at 10-years-old
kristen replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hammerman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is too much for a 10 year old to undertake. > I'm quite shocked that you are asking this > question! > > Mature enough as you think your child is they do > not have the capacity to make sudden and important > decisions! What are you talking about? Bellenden Belle was asking for advice, why is this so shocking? I wish I'd had a community to do this with when my children were young. It seems as though you haven't bothered to read anything she said or completely missed how careful she's been thinking this through and trying to see what would work. It reads like you've just read the thread title and rushed to judgment. How is this helpful? -
I really sympathise, I live in dread of having to find another place to rent. Re friends of friends of the landlord getting the flat in your original post Have you tried posting a request in your networks/social media maybe with a pic & a jokey glowing ref might help it get shared more widely. Trying to find something in a specific location this way is tricky though. I have a few friends (of friends) in my network who rent below market rate and private landlords (as suggested above) are more likely to do this - estate agents often bump things up. It won't make things better for you but I'd also suggest reporting the landlord to Southwark (once you're out with your deposit and references) - I'm not sure what good this will do but it might result in them getting a nudge to fix things. Damp is a health risk to tenants - especially if mould grows and in winter. I found this link - https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1590
