I'd say that is paternalistic or patronising at the very best. Fascistic at worst. This undermines any form of democracy by saying that, we the people, are simply not capable of deciding on great matters of state and it should all be left to a small elite group of politicians such as Major, Blair, the Cleggs etc. to decide for us and we should obediently follow their sage advice. Major is, in my opinion, one of the worst sorts of politicians, along with Blair. During the Major premiership he did more to centralise the power of the PM than any previous incumbent a trend that was continued by Blair and consolidated by Cameron. The Iraq war being a very good example of where the centralisation of too much power in the hands of one person can lead to disaster. I still think Blair should go to prison for that. ED(very angry)oldie.

Both sides should be viewed with suspicion they are as bad as each other. People pretend that they are putting forward an unbiased view of the arguments for and against customs unions and the single market but it is simply not the case on either side. The question on the ballot paper was "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?" and we all know what the answer was. I might not like it but that isn't the point. God, I suppose I'll end up the most hated person on the EDF?

Lady Clegg is hardly the person on the Clapham omnibus that one might expect an unbiased opinion from. There's so much rubbish being talked on both sides I'm fed up to the back teeth with the whole thing. It's a great shame that it's happened but there it is.

Hmmm is that the same Miriam Gonzalez Durantez that's married to Nick Clegg?

The council, and their so called cabinet, have been utterly useless when it comes to anything to do with traffic in Dulwich over the last year or so.
-
The diversion for the Calton Avenue works is scheduled to send the traffic from the Village that normally goes along Calton Avenue up Woodwarde Road, down Dovercourt Road and through Townley Road to East Dulwich Grove (if it's open that is) and the traffic from East Dulwich Grove that normally goes along Calton is to be diverted along Townley Road up Dovercourt Road and down Woodwarde to the part of Calton Avenue that remains open to arrive at Dulwich Village. Now, I'm no traffic expert but I suspect that Dovercourt Road, which is not the widest road in Dulwich usually with cars parked on both sides of the road, may not be the best choice. I wonder if anyone has bothered to try the route out between 8am & 9am? This sounds like a recipe for chaos far worse than the daily chaos we currently see at the junction of Court Lane and Calton Avenue.

I think this was why the previous match against DH was postponed.

A friend of mine spotted one in Low Cross Wood Lane (opposite West Dulwich Station)a couple of weeks ago.

Ivy House is a proper pub, very friendly and great beer.

Dulwich Hill is the old name for Denmark Hill and that sort of area. I.e. between Dulwich and Camberwell. So the new Dulwich Hill seems to be Barry Road area which doesn't seem right historically or geographically, or anything really. Lordship or Barry would be better. Village Ward used to be called Ruskin I'm sure. Can't remember the others. What they really need to get on with is changing the Parliamentary boundaries.

Jennys, I've seen cars parked on double yellow lines there with Blue Badges in their windows and have always assumed that they were patients of the health centre rather than staff. Surely the staff wouldn't park on double yellows?

Saddest sight of the week were the two Southwark traffic wardens in Townley Road opposite Alleyns at 08.30 on Monday morning. Clearly no one had told them that the school did go back fully until today. Were they there this morning does anyone know? I took a different route this morning.

So glad you liked it. It's been a favorite of ours for some years now.

Going north from Turney Road to Calton Avenue has always been a problem. In the past I have seen several drivers unintentionally drive directly ahead onto the wrong side of Calton Avenue. I think that the new layout could make this more likely. It is a very difficult junction to have traffic lights on because of the offset from Turney Road to Calton Avenue. The new layout has accentuated this. The other immediate problem with the junction is on entering Calton Avenue (from any direction) the priority looks like it is towards Court Lane but the actual priority is to go straight and continue up Calton Avenue. The pavement has been built out so far that it almost looks like a left-hand turn into Calton Avenue. I think they will have to put a mini roundabout here to regulate traffic. The, rather badly painted, yellow boxes are confusing and seem to have created a race to see who can get though first. From what I?ve seen over the last couple of weeks since they opened Court Lane again it has only reinforced many locals views that roundabouts would have provided a far safer and created a much slowed traffic solution to the problems of this particular junction.

Townley Road, or the school for that matter, didn't exist in 1868 but both were there by 1894 so I'd guess both were put there by the Foundation (Dulwich Estate)

What hypocritical politicians?? Surely not.

Crickey, London's not that smelly is it?

How was it illegal? The Catalan government was elected democratically and they decided to have the referendum. Surely the Madrid government should respect this and have stayed out of trying to disrupt it. It looks like they were more worried about losing the referendum than a democratic result being arrived at.

Ok dc it's a fair cop but society's to blame. It's just a fit of pique (on my part) at the complete unfairness of the current voting system. And, this is the Brexit related part, if we had had a representative voting system we probably wouldn't have had the referendum. We may still have done I accept but I think it is a great deal less likely. On the AV/STV side of things Loz, the AV system tends to work against smaller parties and favour the larger parties. That is precisely what I think we should be getting away from for people to have their voice heard. Even if I don't agree with what some of the smaller party's say. Anyway back to Brexit. I actually am beginning to wonder if there is going to be an EU to leave shortly. Are the Catalans the catalyst (ho, ho) to the fall of the Treaty of Rome?
