Yes Si Mangia and Lorenzo's for pasta and Thai corner cafe when open for lunch and Ganapati for Indian are currently my fav's. Until I hear otherwise my view of Rocca is that it has poor quality ingredients incompetent chefs and food with little taste. It's pretty hard to make bad pasta and that I'm afraid that means a big NO for a place pretending to be an Italian Restaurant. Any recommendations?
  2. Ah Yes apparently if you stick to the Pizza you'll be ok. Anything else keep sick bag near or feed it to your dog :) I've not been back but hear little has changed in the pasta department apparently it's still S$*T. and the salads remain limp expensive and small.

I'm not in favour of either system. TAX?.. Anyone who sends their kids to private school is doing the tax payer a big favour as they still pay tax ?usually a lot? ?which helps pays for state schools etc? and they pay the school fees too so paying twice. Looking at it that way we?d all be better off if more people sent their kids to private schools. The offset in tax terms is probably still very biased against the wealthy and private schools. As for end results well in my experience of working in numerous areas of finance and construction I don?t know anyone who?s a product of private school who?s a well rounded successful individual but have met plenty of state schooled individuals who are successful and also happy.

So should be good open wed thur and friday for lunch. Cheers Maxxi Il Mirto sounds like an Avoid... maybe son of CRocca .. ;)
  5. Another Thread that has turned into nonsense .. I'll still be struggling with lunch next week .. Where to go with avg food at every turn... ? Jamie Oliver come and help us .... even he couldn't cock up a bowl of pasta.
  6. Witch hunt?. ? Back on subject?. Anyone got a good restaurant they can recommend for Lunch in and around East Dulwich or the Village maybe one I havn?t noticed? I quite like the palmerston ?expensive? and thai corner caf? ?when open? and ganapati ?quality?. Or if I?m on for a Caf? I quite like the one next to property inn and the shoe shop on L Lane. Anyone ?
  7. That old chestnut. The fact ?I say? there isn?t one good restaurant in the village obviously points me being a duck? That V Funny! Rather than a very disappointed consumer who?s had to suffer dreadful food at every turn in the Village. Now I?m expecting another bunch of imbeciles who haven?t been to CRocca ?S4!T? to start going on about how bad I am. When it?s CRocca Poo that?s bad.
  8. Very Funny What is the point of expressing an opinion on here you?ll just get accused of bias or working for the competition. Sorry but I wouldn?t have started this if I?d known the more I say it?s black the more forum members would be saying no no no it?s white?. Very funny. What is so last year is not accepting someone else?s opinion...? After all it?s just my opinion. I do hope we get a few balanced comments about Rocca Just to clarify Whether or not I?ve written on here before is irrelevant. ?What has that to do with anything?? I do NOT work for any restaurant chain I have NO axe to grind. But what ever I write here there?ll be some with a conspiracy theory. The same people must have a comparably poor palette. Maybe the more I say Rocca is rubbish the more business they will do.. You can be sure of one thing I will never eat that poor quality flavourless small portion of barely edible food the try and pass of as Italian pasta. V Funny
  9. Go and TRY Rocca???if you know good food. It would have been two posts on this subject. But as I?ve mentioned there are idiotic comments from members who haven?t even been to Rocca and unnecessary comments aimed at me. I've obviously touched a nerve. I have written on the forum in the past on other subjects. As I said at the start I have no axe to grind. Why do you insist on shooting the messenger? When it?s ?Chef? at Rocca you should be shooting!

Laughable responses from members who havn?t even been there! I?ve been I?ve eaten and I?ve told ?You and Rocca? what I thought. My view is spend your money elsewhere. The Forum title says "The place to discuss East Dulwich property, pubs, shops, services, transport, planning issues? Doesn't that cover restaurants? What benefit would there be to forum members if I went to a restaurant which was awful and came onto the forum saying it was good? None! I?ve mentioned other resturants which are good / excellent. But IMHO Rocca?s pasta sauces "tasteless" and salads "cheap packet type" are rubbish and my advice is Avoid Rocca as it is very very very poor?..

I didn't have the Pizza I had the pasta others on here have all said the Pizza Express Pizzas are better. The Pasta is awful as the sauces have zero flavour. The salads are small and presented badly it?s as if they are just plonked out of a plastic bag into the bowl and they, do not look fresh. Portion size is also small. I?d love to hear other opinions maybe they just had a bad day or they ran out of ingredients and fresh salad.
  12. Don't think Franco Manca and Rocca are owned by the same people. Whether Rocca is a chain or not is irrelevant I?ve been to Italian chain resturants and the food has been good. And just because one of the owners is Italian doesn?t mean he know anything about good food even Italians eat plenty of McDonalds. Comments like the service is good and the place is nice are irelevant. Enjoy the service.. But The food in Rocca is Awful.

  14. My post was meant as a warning to anyone thinking of visiting.Rocca. If you want a good lunch locally my experience is The Thai corner caf? "when open", Ganapati Indian ?Peckham? and The Palmerston "50% too expensive but excellent". I was in Rocca for a business lunch so not about to spoil my business relationship because the food was rotten, with a chat to the manager. No mileage in that. I emailed them after and I've had zero response. Why don?t you go there and report back. I'd be delighted to hear that you'd had delicious pasta. But my experience was a supermarket sauce in a jar would have been haute cuisine by comparison. Possibly the majority of customers don?t know what a good plate of pasta should taste like? Or as I mentioned it may just be the water in the village, the Piaf was just as bad. My guess is Rocca needs to pay more for the ingredients and get better Chef?s.

Piaf was empty because the food was awful. Rocca is full because it's new soon they will run out of customers who havn't been there then they will be empty like Piaf. There is no getting away from the fact Rocca food is very very poor quality poorly presented and that will eventually lead to empty tables. It's in a Honneymoon period that's is. Unless the up their game. I'm angry because I wasted my time money and effort. My 13 year old son can cook better pasta sauce than those muppets.
  16. posted this here as I had previously posted it under "when is rocca opening" woops Rocca compared to Piaf Nicer environment. Competent and attentive staff Reasonable prices. The most important thing about any restaurant is the food. And The food in Rocca is Garbage. Why not try ?Ask Pasta? , ?Strada? in town or ?Lorenzo?s? up at Crystal Palace. Rocca?s sauces are bland as I said a Lloyd Grossman in a jar would be infinitely better. A plate of pasta costs a few pennies you can?t get cheaper food so to fail at a simple pasta dish is incompetence or as I stated maybe it?s the water in the village! Pizza Express is expensive and only the pizza is worth having. The village is still lacking an average restaurant it has 4 poor ones?. If the management don?t employ chefs who can cook and taste the food the produce the deserve to fail. I have no axe to grind I just wish there was some good food in the village.

The title should be changed to "When is Rocca in Dulwich Village closing?"
  18. Just had Lunch there today 10 May 2011 We had Pasta and Ravioli Pasta is home made so soft not the highest standard sauce had Zero Flavour tasted like hot tinned tomato awful. Ravioli meat filling again zero taste or flavour the sauce was bland. Would never order those dishes again. And if the Pizza is worst than Pizza Express then it looks like it's a no go zone. Missed opportunity we need Ask Pasta or Strada Maybe it?s the water or something in the air in there Rubbish?.. I just don't understand if they can?t make a proper sauce go and buy Lloyd Grossman or similar. The previous Le Piaf was a 2/10 this Rocca is a 3/10 edited to add Past costs pennies it's, disgusting that they havn't made good quality sauces. Even at ?5 a plate of pasta offers them a huge profit and they charge ?7.00 + . Unbelievable...!
