  1. "Justice" and "the law" make uneasy bedfellows. That and relationships represent the triumph of hope over experience.
  2. It's been a while since I was in uni but I end up learning stuff now I should have picked up years ago.
  3. Actually, Silverfox, you can have an impression of a concept, so you can feel that an idea is sound or valid, which would still be a feeling about an abstract concept. Ever heard the expression love is a feeling?
  4. You feel pedantry is an acceptable pastime.

  20. Martial art ingredients ( feel free to add further points) 1. Traditional principles of martial arts, philosophy and techniques, monkey, dragon, shoalin monks, bushido, samurai, ninja. 2. Weapons: swords, blades, assorted objects used to inflict pain and death, but excluding guns, so a yakuza film with no guns might be included. 3. Plotlines : revenge, training / culminating in a a final showdown. (KIll BILL!) Old Boy has all three elements as the fight scenes included a mix of hand to hand combat and brawling.
  21. Enjoy .....
  22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrBWHQtvmgE&feature=player_embedded I supposed the issue with Old Boy and (Taekukgi) is whether they are purely martial arts films. The vengence films are also are thriller but cross into other genres.
  23. Is there a sub genre of martial arts/action films heavy in terms of references from Bruce Lee and the Low Budget Hong Kong Cinema from the 1970s. I think one strand has come back strongly in the Korean flicks. The heist movies are also a sub set but action properly speaking is like Die Hard, Con Air. Its a 1980s thing the blow em up with big guns. With changing notions of masculinity the genre has also changed and you have Fast and the Furious, Miami Vice etc, man and machine as opposed to Arnold and Bruce Willis, brute stength and guns and explosions that's why enemy of the state is so interesting because it crosses thriller/action genre rather than the raw actions. Anyway.. must dash
