Can you make roots in East Dulwich for a growing family?
clare replied to benb's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ditto what sillywoman says... one of my daughters currently travelling in India with her two chums she was at school with since Reception at Goodrich :) -
A black and white long haired cat has given birth to two kittens in Goodrich School recently. Mother and babies seem to be doing well. If this is your cat or you know who she belongs to and have been worried about where she has been, please could you get in touch with the school by visiting today or on Friday before 4pm. Please speak to the school caretaker Yousef. Many thanks.

Starting school tips from mums who've been there
clare replied to JJSP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
And don't get into competetive parenting ! Remember that some of the children will just have passed their 4th birthday and some will be almost 5. Schools are used to this of course but sometimes we over anxious parents can try to hot house when we really don't need to. -
Reminder that Goodrich School are putting on extra parent tours- tomorrow, Monday 2nd December as well as next Monday, 9th December. Tours start at 9.30.

Goodrich School-Nursery Admissions There have been some changes recently in how nursery children enter schools in Southwark and other Local Authorities across the country. Children enter the nursery from when they are three years old, but there is now only one point of entry :September (there is NO January intake anymore). Therefore, if your child is going to be three years old before August 31st 2013 you need to apply for your nursery place now. Places are offered on a part time basis either AM 8.50-11.50 or PM 12.40-3.40 Applications need to be made directly to the school and places at Goodrich are filling up fast. You can call into the school office, phone 02086931050, fax 02082992775,or email [email protected]

Primary schools - can't even get in to see them?!
clare replied to alieh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi again. Hot off the press ! In addition to the extra tour dates mentioned in my previous post Goodrich School will now also be hosting an Open Morning for prospective Reception parents/carers on Thursday 29 November at 9.20 am. The morning will consist of a tour of the school in small groups lead by children,a meeting with the Head Teacher and time for more informal questions and chat over tea with parents/carers who already have children attending the school. Please contact the school on 0208 693 1050 to book a place. Many thanks and we hope to see you then. -
Primary schools - can't even get in to see them?!
clare replied to alieh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi everyone. I work at Goodrich School and am sorry that it has been a frustrating experience for parents/carers wanting to book in for a tour around the school. In truth we have been overwhelmed by the volume of people wanting to have a tour of the school recently. Part of the tour is walking through the classes to see what children are actually doing and so we cannot have an indefinite number on the tours, especially when there are usually accompanying children (who are welcome of course but need to be factored in.) At Goodrich we run a tour of about an hour every other Monday at 9.30 am throughout the school year. We have put on extra tours this autumn but due to demand we will now be having two further tours on Tuesday 4th December and Thursday 6th December, both at 9.30 am. I hope this helps. Maybe if you are not looking for a Reception place for Sept 2013 you could wait until after January so we can show round as many current applicants as we can before the Reception admissions deadline in January. We look forward to welcoming you. -
Go and support Treacle Junior-it's a great film. Mainly shot in East Dulwich and around. Loads of us enjoyed being extras and Jamie Thraves , the director is very talented . Peckham Rye has never looked so beautiful and The Blue Brick ( in its former reincarnation) has a scene shot in it. This may all be in previous threads but I haven't checked.

Thanks to all of our lovely families , friends and staff at Goodrich who came and enjoyed the Goodrich Summer Fair and Summer Show yesterday afternoon. Despite the rain we had a fantastic turn out. Great way to end our school year. A big thank you to the Friends of Goodrich for all of their hard work.

We have 2 children at the Charter School. We find their communication fine. We get texts and e mails and feel the school listens to any concerns. We don't have any problems with them at all. Pretty impressed actually.

I am dismayed by some of the carping on this thread. I went into the hospice shop yesterday and the staff there are feeling very undermined and upset by some of the personal comments that have been made. Pleases leave them alone. Donate your things ( or don't) and help raise money for one of the most worthwhile charities you can support. Why not offer to volunteer at the new shop ? Or make a cash donation or do some fund raising ??? It'd getting very dispiriting reading the forum sometimes. Undermining shop workers, schools, local businesses..... Times are getting tough out there. Let's not make it worse by being mean spirited.

Goose green primary school, how long on the waiting list?
clare replied to bouhbouh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If your child is in Year One then Southwark now deal with all the applications. Look under "in year admissions" on Southwark's website. Even if a child leaves a particular school then Southwark, not the school will allocate the new place. This came in to force in September 2010. Good luck and I hope you get a place soon. -
Good luck Zephyr ! My 2 daughters have not eaten meat or fish since they were 7. Their brother eats meat, fish and veg but no fruit. Their dad has no dairy, hates pulses and can only eat white meat. I eat everything. Now the girls are older I am trying to get them to cook at least one family meal a week but unless you are very organised it's a bit of a pain, especially when they're tired after school. Stock up on dried fruit/nuts instead of biscuits and too much bread. (tho' I know this all costs a lot of money- you have to think about what your savings are on not buying meat as much) Best family meals for us are roast dinners (with veggie sausages/nut roasts), stir fries (hurrah we can all eat nuts !), soups, and lots of quorn bol etc. P S A (small) good knock on effect though is the girls no longer eat haribos, marshmallows or anything with gelatine in (SMBS for veggie jellies for Xmas trifle! Thy are great for veggie packed lunch stuff too but it's easy to spend loads of money there. You can often get the same stuff but cheaper in Peckham)

School closures - fastest off the mark?
clare replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Goodrich open today. Charter closed. -
I was once given a hideous vase. The little boy said "My mum didn't know what to do with this and she said , "I know we'll give it to your teacher for Christmas !" " Wine or smellies always grateful received and may I second the virtual thank to the secondary school teachers. I tried to send a bottle of red wine to my daughter's tutor last year and she broke it on the way to school and had a bag of glass and dripping red legs to deal with.....
