  1. I believe it's the pot of all the entry fees - although I think there may be a cap on that.
  2. We won it hands down last time and are going along tonight. Are there any decent quiz teams in ED who might like to come along for the challenge because the competition last time was rubbish :)
  3. From Waterloo should be ?20 in a blackie - presumably he was kept waiting for a while or the traffic was awful - otherwise you were done :)
  4. I assumed that they were removing the kebab shop part so that the restaurant would have more appeal (i.e. so it doesn't look like it's part of a kebab shop). That way they can up the prices a bit and fit in with the rest of the LL eateries :)
  5. Whilst it sounds like Caffe Nero have clearly been in the wrong regards how they have opened and their treatment of their neighbours I think closing them down would only be cutting off our nose to spite our face. It clearly provides a useful service to the area (especially as one of the few cafes that mums with babies are welcomed and have space to relax). Maybe Caffe Nero could be fined for their behaviour/actions so far but allowed to keep trading? Is this in any way feasible?
  6. hmm - not sure all of these would go down well in ED :)
  7. + there was a stabbing at Sacred Heart School in Camberwell on Wednesday - all very depressing

Give Tooting Lido a go. 90m of unheated pool to really get the heart racing. Admittedly I wear a wetsuit....
  9. I think some people see the Tube as a negative.... it may have the opposite affect you are hoping for. I believe there was quite a lot of resistance to a suggested route through ED when planning was done many moons ago.
  10. ...also I think this has been discussed in many other threads before so suggest you do a search Paul.
  11. Just to balance things out I feel I should comment that the one time we went there we really enjoyed the whole experience. Got a nice seat out the back where had space to park the pram without getting in the way. I had the kedgeree (fantastic) and my wife had the bacon sarnie. I of course tried some of hers also as she was raving about the bacon (comes from William Rose I believe) and was suitably impressed. Didn't notice tough bread as described. Also they sell those old style lemonades which I'm a big fan of. Of course, it is pricey, hence why we don't go often, but good for a treat.

Even with correctly fitting > collars they can kill a cat (don't go putting them > on Muttley!) which is why chipping is best. You can buy velcro attachable stretchy collars which have little chance of hurting the cat and stay on really well. We use that and chipping as not everyone will bother to take them to a vets to check the chip if found.
  13. this should entertain you then... http://www.emoticonzoo.com/hate-emoticons/
  14. But without emoticons how is anyone to know that there isn't really lapdancing at Hoopers?
  15. We'll have to agree to differ Alan. Personally living in ED I have gastro pubs coming out of my ears, so this place is a welcome change. Agreed it isn't busy enough though. Since you have such great ideas for pubs maybe you should think about getting into the business? n.b. you seem to get tetchy quite easily with people who disagree with you on this forum. Just so you know, a :) indicates a non-serious comment, so you should have taken point (1) lightly. I really don't know Camberwell at all (apart from the bit that Hoopers is apparently in), and because ED is so great I'm unlikely to be "discovering" it anytime soon - sorry!

If I told a cabbie to take me to Camberwell and then hope to wander into Hoopers I might be in trouble. I think you get my point. I don't believe he has ever tried to disguise his postcode or the location (there are maps on the flyers) What is your problem with this place? - you seem to be on a one man mission to put people off going there...
  17. I appear to have a bee in my bonnet! I'm not sure if it's one of those foxtons or cafe nero ones but it's definitely of the unwanted chains variety.
  18. Is about a 5 min walk from ED station - seems much closer to ED than Camberwell to me so not sure what Alan's gripe is about. Anyway, definitely provides something different from all the bars down LL (good beer for starters), so I'd recommend a visit.
  19. Reporting back.... Hoopers is a really nicely done up pub, with great ales on tap (of which I am experiencing the negative side of this morning). The quiz was well organised and enjoyed by us - maybe because we won :). Jamie (the owner) was very friendly and played the prefect barman/quizmaster for the evening. Apparently they have a "beer festival" next week and from the list I saw looks like they'll have on some top ales. The downside - it was really quiet. I guess it's a little tucked away but I don't understand why people don't go here. I'll certainly make the effort to go back.
  20. cheers - I'll give it a whirl
  21. clearly not well attended anyway :)
  22. Hi Was thinking of venturing along to this - never been to Hoopers or this quiz before, are they both any good?
  23. no - but I lived there when it was converted to flats!
  24. 90 point gameweek - I feel so proud I thought I'd resurrect this thread....

Are we all aware that the total taxpayer exposure to Northern Rock is now approximately ?10 billion above the UK?s Defence Budget?
