  1. nice bit of constructive criticism there :)
  2. awesome - was secretly hoping as much - lets hope it does mens clothes!
  3. thanks - nice to have one opinion - anyone else? This forum seems to contain more people moaning about buggies than people soon to be pushing them! :)
  4. Have to be honest - it's my favourite wine shop in ED. Did a wine tasting there that was fantastic, and like the intimacy of the bar at the back - never had any issues with staff... Apparently the extension will include a small deli.
  5. Any recommendations on good local ones?
  6. Has shop fitters hoarding outside it today so somebody must be moving in soon?
  7. Wow - nobody know? - if my last post wasn't clear enough it's the bakery up by the EDT (same side, about 3 doors down)
  8. Haven't found decent black pudding in ED as yet :(
  9. Apologies if this has been asked before but does anyone know what's happening here? Thought it was just a refurb but has been empty for a while now so wondered if a new shop/bar was opening?
  10. ditto the above - the most frustrating being where they don't leave a card then send it back to the sender after a week :X
  11. "I would start at the Forest Hill Tavern (incidentally this is the top-rated pub in East Dulwich on Beer in the Evening :-S)" Does anyone have any comments on this place? Haven't been there in the 5 years I've been in ED and from the outside aren't tempted top try it.... Should I not be reading a book by it's cover????
  12. A tree that old is unlikely to have been planted with any thought to subsidence. They've had to remove a few on Nutfield Road and replace them with more "subsidence" friendly ones. As for making it worse, I think this is why they leave the base in for a while (sometimes in the case of sycamores they have to cut down the tree over a number of years, but in the case of the ones on Nutfield Road I assume their size means they can be removed fairly quickly). It's a real shame but if your house was being slowly destroyed by a tree you wouldn't feel to sorry to see it go :)
  13. I'm a member of jags. We had to wait a while due to a waiting list but it was worth it. Squash courts are fine (a couple of dead boards but as good as any leisure centre I've played in). Pool is great - re: the comment earlier about kids, they have dedicated kids sessions so if you pick your time you can normally avoid them. I swam the other Saturday morning and shared the pool with only 4 others - luxury! Haven't tried the tennis courts yet but they look good, and the gym has no free weights but I don't really plan to use it much anyway as I have a gym in town I use at lunchtimes.
  14. Used to have this discussion with my old flat mate all the time - what order and how many pubs to include in the pub crawl? In those days we used to argue over how to avoid the likes of the Forresters but there's so many pubs now should be a good list for a crawl. How about: Magdala Franklins Liquorice CPT Uplands Palmerston Inside 72 Bishop EDT (I'd be tempted to stay in here but you could push on to the Grove to finish yourself off!)
  15. I've never been disappointed by the sea-cow. I used to live just over the from Emma's and the owner IS very friendly (used to wave at me every time I walked past) and DOES serve big portions, AND it is cheap, but I'm afraid the quality is just far better at sea-cow so I haven't been to Emma's for a long time now. I might have more opportunity if the Uplands itself hadn't gone so downhill since it changed ownership a couple of years ago. I remember the time when that was the nicest pub in East Dulwich, is now languishing down the bottom of the list somewhere!
  16. - An Italian - A fishmongers - A cinema - An M&S Food Hall - Iceland to close?
  17. And I don't mean a Pizza Express! Have felt for the last couple of years that a small locally run Italian/pizza place would get loads of custom - what do you think? There is a place called Albertos in Earlsfield which I think a similar style would go down a treat in ED.
  18. I went the other week and agree the burgers are drowned in sauce and the garlic mayo is far too potent. Also I had to speak very slowly to the person behind the till before my order was understood which I just find frustrating (especially as they still brought out the wrong thing to start with!). At the end of the day, I guess you get what you should expect from a chain restaurant where the staff only care about their weekly pay check. Go next door to Liquorice and have a top burger (organic meat from the fantastic butchers down the road) and be served by people who'll recognise you as a local/regular and say hello and be generally courteous. I don't think I'll be visiting GBK again although I suspect it has a market and will remain.
  19. Must have gone downhill since my last visit (was 2 years ago). Then they had a good DJ and laid on stacks of really nice grub upstairs. This was before the inside was done up and I know it has a new manager now...
  20. My preference is the Brixton Ritzy - nice relaxed atmosphere with super soft seats, no kids screaming about, late showings and you can take a beer into the screening - what more could you possibly want!?
  21. I love Yilmaz - staff are friendly and kebabs are up to scratch (although I only go there after a few beers so taste buds are slightly dimmed!)
  22. I've been to the NYE do at the EDT in the past and thought it was a good laugh...
  23. as long as Ocado exists we can all survive until the M&S does appear...
  24. I queued all the way round the organic grocers also - but it is well worth the effort rather than having to bug anything "fresh" from Somerfields :) Here's hoping an M&S food appears soon!
