Hi, Just wondered if anyone knew the details of what went on with the buildings on the east side of Dog Kennel Hill. A couple still have "Save Our Homes" banners hanging from them so wondered what the story was?

Everyone time someone puts a negative comment on this forum about this place I feel forced to balance the views up a bit. It's a top laugh - don't go as a "foodie" or you will be disappointed, but order a jug of Margherita, enjoy the good service and stuff your face (the servings are massive) on bog standard Mexican for decent prices.... I've always enjoyed it there and it's a cheap night out by ED standards.

Agreed that you can get better food in town. I recently went to Petrus which clearly can't be matched by East Dulwich, but then the ?250/head isn't either. There are places in the West End that cost the same as the Palmerston but I'm not sure I'd class any of them as any better. The problem with the cost of food in the centre is that you have to pay more for where you are eating. The bonus of having somewhere like the Palmerston is that you can (or at least hope to) have more of your dosh go towards ingredients and paying the chef and staff rather than the rent. Obviously the way ED is going this won't long be the case :)

Are you kidding me? At least 3 got mentioned in this years Good Food Guide (The Green, Palmerston, Franklins) and I suspect that Tandoori Nights would be well up there in any Good Curry Guide (may have to buy it to check). Plus it has one of the best value Thai restaurants I can think of (Thai Corner) Out of interest - if you guys hate the restaurants in ED so much - where do you eat instead? I'd love to know cause they must be top restaurants...

Ah Mockney - I agree that Sage is quite nice, but netvibes goes with you wherever you are and whatever browser you use. Can also integrate your email, ebay, google maps, and sudoku puzzles for those so inclined. -

Use a good rss aggregator like netvibes and all this is done for you anyhow... -
Anyone else take any last week? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/124/388406825_3eadbc8b83.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/158/388406781_c33024564c.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/144/388406741_43d68b5f7d.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/129/388406630_e3273cac64.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/388406580_f294bd795e.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/125/388406523_d5c6ed2834.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/157/388406480_a3c32c0cb3.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/133/388406421_2cfe739721.jpg?v=0

Can anyone recommend any of the ones in the area? I have a relatively new sports car and am obviously feeling a little overprotective. Worried that they'll use the pressure washer too close and take off paint etc. Obviously I should probably be less lazy and do it myself but there are much better things to do at the weekend!

I have to admit to clearly being completely ignorant as I hadn't realised the ramps were specifically designed for the disabled. Wouldn't it make sense to double yellow that part of the road to make it clear to stupid people like me though?
-
Spotted the yellow placard last weekend. Why would someone want to rob a small gift shop... b*stards. Hope everyone involved was okay (obviously excluding the scum who did it)
-
No - I'd probably expect either Salmonella or Trichinellosis

Has been discussed here before. Try using the search facility for "le moulin" or just click here

Feel the need to say I quite like Mr Nesbitt (as an actor anyhow - never met him). Just thought a bit of balance is always good in threads :)

Anyone on this forum play squash at JAGS and fancy participating in a ladder?
-
I'm a member of JAGS but did have a look around Hamlets as well. If you want to be a member mainly for the gym then I'd suggest Hamlets as it's much larger. If you want access to a range of facilities (tennis,squash,5-a-side etc) including a fabulous pool then JAGS is the ticket.

Was thinking last night about Ibo's complaints about ridiculous house prices and newbies moving into the area not contributing anything. Well, I'm a relative newbie (been here 5 years) and have so far made two long-standing residents well off by buying their houses for enormous profit on what they originally paid, and I also make a point of shopping locally to support local businesses. Ergo - I feel a little cross when someone moans at me for pumping so much cash into where they live. Ibo - I presume you don't own a house in ED, else you wouldn't be so cross about the prices? Possibly feeling a bit upset about not investing in the days where a two bed flat cost <100k (only about 5-6 yrs ago)? I apologise if my being able to afford a house around here now offends Ibo. I moved to ED because I got a great vibe from the place when I looked around and had heard great things about it. In my 5 years of living here my initial impression has only been reinforced and I have seen enormous improvements. This forum is the first place I've ever heard anybody moan about newcomers in ED and be so negative, but I can only assume you are one of a few who don't appreciate the massive improvements in ED in the last few years. Looking back 5 years I can only think of one thing that was better - the Uplands :)

About time for a forum drink up

So.... how did it go? -
wow - the Pavilion deliver!!!? I'll be popping in to get the menu tonight - had always walked round to pick up from Thai corner before, I can save myself that 100m walk now (not that I'm lazy or anything!)

another tip - this site is really good for knowing where the properties that are available actually are, although can get a little out of date... OnOneMap

Best Indian Restaurant in East Dulwich 2006
nutty replied to bry's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
well - Surma for best take out and TN for best eat-in. However - has nobody realised this poll ended a month ago? -
What do people think about the other Thai restaurants in ED? Thai Corner is closed this week so trying to decide which of Thai Pavilion and Sema Thai to frequent instead?
-
Apparently by people on this forum voting for them - keep up :)
