Not sure but there were a gazillion police cars present. Hope it was something major to illicit such a response?

Very good customer service in THE CHEESE BLOCK
nutty replied to MadWorld74's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nice to see a positive recommendation on here. I think the block has come in for an unfair share of poor customer service comments in the past. -
I believe it should be called "The Rathole"?

I can fit a tennis ball in my mouth (and close my mouth around it). I believe my jaw dislocates on one side (due to the big clunk that happens when I open my mouth wide). Quite a cool party trick...

Does anyone ever eat in Cafe El Passo?
nutty replied to AllotmentOwner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The food is only to soak up the effects of the cocktails and shouldn't be taken too seriously imho! -
My congrats also - very impressive buildings. Liked the programme so much I even watch the "Trade Secrets" on More Four afterwards and the "experts" on the panel there really liked it too. One question, why did they have an aversion to saying where the houses actually were? Was always just referred to as "South London".

not a bad site but beware of offers which are from a set menu. Tends to be a much poorer version of what you can get in the same restaurant a la carte I've found.

I went to Chopsticks at the weekend. We hadn't been for ages as we seem to remember not being that impressed when we went when it opened. I'm afraid (IMHO of course) that it hadn't got any better. The portions were enormous but we didn't get close to finishing anything as it just wasn't that good. I'll try and be more specific.... Starter - mixed hor d'oeuvre (spelling?) - ribs were dry and tasteless, seaweed wasn't very crispy and didn't have any of the sweet stuff that I normally like on it, spring rolls were mainly bean sprouts so a little boring (and far too big!). We also had a chicken satay which was okay. Mains - Beef in black bean, Chicken Chow Mein with crispy noodles, pork and ginger I think and singapore noodles. The noodles were up to scratch but the rest was really tasteless (not bad tasting - just very uninspiring). I think the restaurant has a lovely ambience, the garden looks amazing, and the staff are very friendly and helpful but the food just isn't good enough to make me bother going back - seems a real shame. Has anyone been there that really likes it - wondering if it's just my taste in Chinese (although my wife agreed)?

Antenatal Classes - NCT vs NHS vs other options
nutty replied to nutty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes - I am the dad! Herne Hill is where we'll be doing it so I'll look forward to the "natural birth nazi"! Hva enade the decision to stick with the NCT one and compete in the Olympic distance the next day - at least my first borm will have a very fit dad - sounds like I'll need to be to prepare for lack of sleep etc... -
After lots of hassle we have managed to get ourselves on the NCT antenatal classes in Herne Hill on 4th and 11th August. Was really chuffed until I realised it clashes with the London triathlon which I'm dying to compete in this year. If we can't get a rescheduled one with the NCT I guess that leaves me with the option of the NHS one or one run by someone else (we got some details from the Healthmatters shop about a private one there). Anyone have any views on which are better etc? Last option is I change to compete in the Olympic distance in the triathlon which might kill me :)

I believe that's the one on the Old Kent Road where the original Chinese Elvis came from. Since Orange adverts and west end fame I'm not sure he's doing his weekly spot any more though?

and if there are when are they?

Mr Liu's does a good take out. More on Chinese deliveries in this thread. Not sure if there has been a thread re: eating in at Chinese restaurants in ED?

Hi Gizzy Nice to see another "rugger bugger" on the forum. (if that sounded ra then take as sarcasm). I personally play for Old Elthamians in Chislehurst (play in London 3 SE) as I have ties there (and it's a great club if you don't mind a short drive). Having said that the best local club I know of is Old Alleynians. Really nice clubhouse and good pitches (I'll avoid commenting on the changing rooms but most rugby clubs have this issue!). They play in Surrey 1 I believe so the standard is average but also competitive. Any other rugby players on the forum???

sorry - just to wake up any EDFers on a Friday afternoon. I'm getting really bored with reading stories about how a crash is around the corner :) Seem to have been reading them for the last 7 years. No doubt it will come eventually, and then they'll rise again ad infinitum

Where should I take my Mun for dinner on Monday?
nutty replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
it'll be worth the risk of bad service to sit out the back in the current weather! -
Commuterama - commute times from East Dulwich
nutty replied to SeanMacGabhann's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have to get to Mayfair - if I get train/tube that's 1 hour plus each way but fortunately the trusty motorbike gets me there in just over 20 mins. The only way to travel in London is on two wheels (unless boozing of course :)-D) -
and there was me thinking this one the one forum I browsed at work that wouldn't have techie talk on it :)

I'd be up for a guided tour too (plus Mrs. Nutty). How's it going to be organised?

The "Stealth House" up toward Denmark Hill. Jenny Eclair's place. Had a look round on London's Open House day and just loved the design.

Residential Parking Zones in streets off LL
nutty replied to mixulee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think councils generally shoot themselves in the foot with planning for these on most occasions. My experience is that they do some kind of a survey which nobody hears about and then produce a plan which is completely wrong for the area in question and hence get residents backs up. If there are problems at certain times in certain areas these could be addressed by a CPZ but there's always a danger that the "plan" is designed to make back the cost (and maybe more?) by extending CPZ hours into times they are not necessary. Agreed we probably need: * some CPZ between 8am and 10am on roads near the station to stop those who to drive to the station * some CPZ Saturday daytime (9am-5pm) around LL shopping areas to stop clogging up etc (personal bias here as I live very close to LL and can never get a space on a Saturday) I suspect the councils plan would end up having 8am-6pm restrictions across a very broad area around LL which would be wholly inappropriate but lets wait and see.... Also - "A car is a privilege, not a right." - come on?!? I don't think any of us believe we have a "right" to a car. The huge amounts of tax we already pay on road tax, petrol, tolls (increasing each year), insurance etc etc etc I think already keep it as a privilege for the majority. -
Me and Mrs Nutty got married at Belair a couple of years back, befor ethe change of ownership, chef and decor. It was wonderful and the food was top notch. We went back this year and Mrs Nutty almost cried at what they have done to the place :(. Food was awful, they couldn't even produce a rare steak (was medium to well done) and when we sent it back it took them 20 mins to conjure up another one. Such a shame as if they'd just kept the character and renovated a little it could have been wonderful.
