Lordship Lane bars about 7 years ago?
nutty replied to writerEm's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Inside 72 was what persuaded me to move to ED in 2003. Walked in there after looking at a property and the bar man gave me a run down of the area. The vibe in their was so friendly I was already sold. Was sad to see her go. Back then the "Brasserie" on North Cross Rd wasn't bad either.... -

Lordship Lane - best highstreet in London? (The Times)
nutty replied to Saila's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"excellent schools" *splutter* depends on whether you live in the postage stamped size catchment area of the ones mentioned, or can afford to go private.... -
Anyway - isn't this essentially useless? It's just showing us population hotspots. You would need the twitter per capita for it to be at all interesting.

Motorcycles allowed in Bus Lanes - an early report
nutty replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Real problem is that allowing motorcyclists only in red-route bus lanes is confusing. I've already been done once for being in a bus lane that wasn't a red route (approaching waterloo bridge) when I understandably thought it was red route. Roads leadin up to it are.... If it's fine for red routes why not everywhere else. -
Good state schools... and because of that also me - moved out last weekend - bye all....

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
nutty replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I emailed James this morning and bin men arrived 2 hours later. Efficient! Sorry for cross posting but this is probably a better thread Anyone know when the rubbish vans are next coming around? We've been forced to fill our brown bin due to green one being full and now that's full also. It's at least 3 weeks since they last collected! -

Delaying school start date for August-born children
nutty replied to powercow's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Something else that hasn't been mentioned is the case where a child is born prematurely. Our son is end of august baby but was actually due start of October. Despite explaining this to the woman I spoke to at the council she still suggested it made no difference to the rules. We're actually moving out to Kent as we are so unimpressed with the schools available locally so hopefully our new council might be a little more understanding of special cases such as this. But, if not at least we know he'll be in a decent school! -
Sounds like taxi is the preference but thanks for all the tips. Is it easy to pick up a taxi after a big event (Murray vs Federer tomorrow night)?

What Brendan said about soccer. I think both have similar positives as sports but having attended both as a fan Rugby has to win hands down. I challenge anyone who has been to an international in both to say anything positive about the general attitude of the worst 25% of a football crowd. Unfortunately they seem to ruin it for everyone else. Rugby however I would always be happy to take all the family along to watch. Would never dream about that in football.

Does such a service exist? Mine won't start (suspect I need a new starter motor) but want to avoid paying a spearate company to take it to the garage.

surly black cab drivers ! (not taking fares to ED)
nutty replied to spark67's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Glad this is getting cleared up. I totally read the 6 mile thoing the wrong way around in my post. I always used to have problems getting them to take me home from the city, but actually that's only 5.5 miles so they shouldn't have refused. Hasn't been a problem getting taxis from the west-end. I guess there is the other part quoted on their website: I guess ED is within the licensing area though. -

nutty replied to spark67's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, there is actually a minimum distance you want to go for the rule to apply. I suspect annoyingly ED regularly fals within this (e.g. Waterloo to ED is 4.5 miles according to gmaps). Probably best to actually lie and say you are going further, e.g. Sydenham, Downham etc! http://www.londonblackcab.com/ourtaxis.htm -

I can also totally see RosieH's point as well. I don't hold with cars slowing down on motorways to have a good look as it causes traffic and potential for further accidents. Also, it totally freaks me out when I see people gathering around a crash when the energency services are doing their best and there are still passengers to be saved (remember seeing this in Nunhead a year ago, loads of kids watching someone be cut free covered in blood,- made me shiver). However, I didn't see much ghoulish about taking photos of the aftermath, as, as Vince points out, this is just the kind of photo we clamour to buy papers to see. One of the things I like most about the forum is the ability to get local news, as it happens. Anyway - I'll continue to post pics I consider of interest and suitable for this forum - suggest you don't read them if you don't like them Rosie, as Vince says.

I might have been wandering past early that morning - just to prove it wasn't part of Libras imagination! In terms of leaving evidence, they did a great job of clearing it up quickly, but you'll notice Le Chardon is currently missing half of it's front railings! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3646/3565535273_1e668d6cc6.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3366/3565535179_d743120503.jpg?v=0 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3369/3565535081_01f1b5d0d7.jpg?v=0
