  1. Just being a nosy neighbour, but does anyone know what they're doing outside the Curry Cabin/Acorn estate agents?

  3. glad you remembered, MP! (tu) Will be there - what time? Cannae make the curry, but will be there say 8:30-ish ...
  4. char1ie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > > It is the perfect boozer. > Hmmm, not with you there, Charlie. It's alright, and I've never had a shit night in there, but neither have I had one that sticks in the memory. So many other places I have met all kinds of characters. Never, alas, in the Bish. S'alright for one or two, IMO, but lacks the coherence, ambience and nuances of other ED watering holes.
  5. People prefer bland. Put it this way: when we go into a video store while we have the option of an edgy, interesting indie/foreign movie, most people most of the time will watch the safe, predictable Hollowood (sic) product. Partly because stepping out of the normal routine is a risk and also becuase those films (like the Bishop pub, etc.) are ones that all your mates/family watch or that are already the most well-known. Plus, I might be wrong, but the Bish has got the latest licence on LL. This could be a factor ...
  6. Mediocrity is always more popular. Better to be cool and obscure than bland and well-known.

  8. Er, ooops! ;-) ETA: I have felt a little old on occassion in the 72 also ... mind, I reckon that's more to do with attitude than age, cos I'm like all mature and shit.
  9. Acutally, MP, AB1s have a strict over-21s policy, meaning they attract a substantially older crowd. Last year, I was asked for ID in one, and I'd only gone in there one afternoon for a coffee (I was 27).

Well, the only one I ever really went to regularly was in Wimbledon, which was alright compared to most of the local watering holes. At least there was one barman who'd always remember our drinks and have a chat. It could be worse: it could be Slug and Lettuce.
  11. Christmas lights?! S'a bit early, no?
  12. Like a low-budget version of Aha's Take on Me, here's Way Out by Ellen Allien and Apparat.
  13. Still on a Ninja Tune tip, here's Amon Tobin's Verbal:
  14. Nothing beats the Mnacs for defiance, though: "... they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it." :X

  16. "Abolish Jojo Bebe and replace it with something nicer"
  17. Revolution, anyone? I'm not doing anything on Saturday afternoon. I can supply the petrol and the rags. Anyone got any spare bottles? Mine have already gone in the recycling ...
  18. Well, MP (geddit?!), at least we didn't have to go through the trouble, trauma and tedium of an election to realise that we've got the same shower of shite as we had before.

  20. The other month I was waiting one night/early morning at a bus stop on Upper Street in Islington and struck up a conversation with a couple stood next to me. I recognised that the guy was from Glasgow from his accent. He'd come down to London with his girlfriend. "I have some friends up there", I said, "one of them is in a band, dunno if you've heard of them ..." Turns out not only had he heard ofthe band, but regularly went to gigs with my mate and that he was well-known as a local legend.

  22. ... so White Stuff's promotional activities even include an ironic reference to the very gentrification that it symbolises ...? Consumer capitalism eating itself in an orgy of its own self-referentiality on LL!

  24. ha! I once saw this guy play live in Manchester - he was supporting Ani DiFranco. He might be on her label, as is I think Andrew Bird, who Mockney and I were discussing earlier this week (see above).
  25. Walworth Road had been better for a while but I think they're having a last-miunte push to get everything finished. Several times this week I have been stuck in a jam, which I believe is causing problems with scheduling. I have complained to TfL, saying that no extra buses are being put on to compensate. In the mornings and evening there have lately been queues of dozens of people at the main bus stops and the buses are always rammajamma. And, yeah, an hour door-to-door. I leave my house about 8am and get in the office for 9am most days, sometimes a little quicker though, it depends. I actually don't mind the time. Unlike the train (ugh!) or Tube (even worse!) you almost always get a seat on the buses and can read in comfort. I get through heaps of books this way.
