  1. The Plough Pub by Dulwich Library is good at accommodating large groups. I think it might be free to hire.
  2. We haven't done a bear party but we did the T-Shirt party for our 6 year old and it went down a treat. The kids get to wear the T-Shirts home and they made some lovely spin paintings for alternatives to party bags. It was ?20 a head. http://capturedontherye.com
  3. Will you provide food and booze in lieu of payment?
  4. Thanks guys, tried the above, seems to be working for now. It's a bit old and temperamental.
  5. I wonder if anyone can help me with my iMac, which has started acting funny and needs an OSX install disk which I have misplaced to run a repair disk. It's an intel core duo and has 10.6.8 OS installed. If anyone could lend me their grey apple disk that came with their computer to run disk utility from it'd be much appreciated. Pretty much any version should be ok. Thanks, Lou.
  6. There's a great local nanny agency that will be able to help with lots of your questions, run by the very knowledgeable Esme. http://www.eastdulwichnannyagency.com/
  7. Individuals cannot request a DBS check for themselves or their nannies. An online nanny agency such as Tinies could do this for you for a fee even if you are not using them to find a nanny. Or a nanny will have this as part of their OFSTED registration.
  8. The framed print :)
  9. You don't have to provide this info for Southwark applications but you do if you apply to Lewisham Schools (Horniman, Fairlawn etc).

  11. Sympathies - our place is drafty and then some, my breath mists in my sleep during the cold months. Get a fleece onesie for xmas and grin and bear it. Or crank up the heating and cry when you get your gas bill!
  12. Macmillan Nurses provide a brilliant service http://www.macmillan.org.uk
  13. My daughter asked me the very same thing. I guessed some kind of dreadlock net too!
  14. We applied for Charter school as we live on the top of Hillsboro Road which I believe is in the catchment. However, our landlord is now selling the house but has given us 3 months notice. I have no idea where we will end up moving and if we will do so before the offer letters go out. What will happen if I get an offer and then I have to move? Bad timing!!
  15. I always ignore the doorbell of an evening, although last time it was a neighbour saying that someone was ripping the wing mirror off my car. Doh!
  16. 7 Dec for St Anthony's
  17. Schools can't see which order you put them in but I suspect the reason given above is correct! My daughter was asked at a secondary school interview what school she had chosen first.
  18. Captured on the Rye have really lovely handprinted organic T-shirts for kids and adults - worth a look if you have someone who's a bit difficult to by for or likes unusual things. They also do homewares and really gorgeous lampshades. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.622304371149105.1073741854.414741285238749&type=1
  19. i have given up on tight and just do knee high socks now. my daughter won't pull up anything properly around her waist so she ends up with tights around her knees by the end of the day.
  20. It's new within the last year but Captured on the Rye does seem really lovely homewares and interior design bits and pieces. It's on Pellatt Road.
  21. We used the East Dulwich Nanny Agency recently and they were really great - very professionally and based locally. http://www.livelovelocal.net/listings/east-dulwich-nanny-agency/
  22. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Unless you homeschool your kids, you can't shield them from the massive gender stereotyping that goes on at school so it'll all come undone soon enough. My daughter was very tomboyish when she was 3 and 4 - obsessed with Ben10, Batman, Superman etc until she started school and now she is an explosion of pink despite my best efforts.
  23. I requested a C Section from the midwife who referred me to see an anaesthesist to assess whether I could have an epidural due to some spinal surgery I had had a few months before getting pregnant. I went for the natural birth option in the end but it was an emergency C after all!
