  1. Actually France is a secular country. Many of them are catholics but officially the state is separate from religion. This is why to get married in France you need to do it legally in the town hall before having a religious ceremony.
  2. Yes, glasses can be yet another fashion accessory. I'm wearing a fabulous Chanel pair as we speak...
  3. Thanks everyone. I knew I'd get some good suggestions here. I've passed them on to my friends for them to decide.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion...that's a good idea.
  5. Some friends living in Australia are visiting London next month. They're hoping to spend an evening in East Dulwich with various old friends for a good catch up. The only slight snag is that they now have an 18 month old boy. I don't have kids yet so I'm completely oblivious as to where we could go. Could anyone recommend somewhere that might be suitable for dinner with a small child as one of the party? Thanks
  6. Avatar 3D was great fun to watch. The plot left a little to be desired but that was fine. The 3D definitely needs to be developed further...it wasn't always quite right, especially in peripheral vision. It's an experience. I'm definitely looking forward to 3D Alice In Wonderland with Johnny Depp too. But then I wouldn't want to watch a arthouse film with a great plot in 3D, it'd be distracting.
  7. Ah now if the 484 comes first, jump on. The difference is only a couple of minutes so it's worth going with a 484 if it's there rather than waiting for a 185. I've shunned a 484 before and waited another 10 minutes for a 185. As paulino says, try both and see which you prefer.
  8. I think the 185 is slightly quicker than the 484. I sometimes catch a bus from the north end of Lordship Lane to Lewisham DLR and the 185 is my prerference. Once the bus arrives, it's usually about 45 minutes to there. So it should be slightly shorter to the hospital.
  9. Well you learn something new everyday. I think whilst they used Melbourne Grove again during the diversion, there were additional parking restrictions, so you're probably right as to why it moved from there originally.
  10. That's interesting to know. But certainly for the past few years, it's been going down East Dulwich Grove. When rngutsell moved in a year or so ago, they were just using it as a diversion.
  11. You can also top up pay-as-you-go at some of the local newsagents.
  12. Ah. You must have moved in during the phase when the buses were diverted down Melbourne Grove due to roadworks. Unfortunately, going right to the end of East Dulwich Grove and turning left onto Lordship Lane is the original route.
  13. I was astounded this morning. My train actually arrived early. And then the Jubilee Line was half empty. People travelling from outside London seem to have had more trouble. But from East Dulwich, it was a breeze!
  14. I'm interested. I've sent you a PM. (Edited to send via PM)
  15. I've seen a similar thing with tickets from East Dulwich. My other half got a return to London Bridge from the ED ticket machine. Neither the out or the return let him through the barriers at London Bridge. It's obviously a regular occurrence in rush hour as the staff at London Bridge hold a big wedge of tickets to hand out to people whose tickets don't work. Otherwise, Barry, thank you for all your improvements at East Dulwich.
  16. Liz (aka Goodliz) also does Power Walking courses. I've done both her running courses and can really recommend her.
  17. Actually if the new technology being installed on the Jubilee Line works and is allowed to work to it's full potential, it really could improve capacity and journey times. It allows the train to run far closer together. But I still don't see it making Canada Water any easier to use. The trains are always going to be packed when they reach there having passed Waterloo and London Bridge on their way to Canary Wharf. On topic, I can't believe the proposal is to remove so many train services from SE London, especially those serving Kings. It seems ludicrous.
  18. 1) whilst hinting that my other half might like to do 4). Then I tell him how mean he is to kill a harmless creature.
  19. When I went with a friend, we really enjoyed looking round Casa Mila and Casa Battlo. But actually everything we saw was great...just as everyone else says, be careful of the pickpockets.
  20. Keef, out of interest, have you rung and asked for the money back? If so, what was their response? That really is daylight robbery!
  21. I saw the original The Vanishing last night. It's very 80s. But then ending is one of my worst nightmares...
  22. I hate LOL. It makes me thinking of lolling...just lying around being useless.
  23. Oh and London landlines are 3-4-4, other landlines and mobiles are 5-3-3. My French OH crosses his 7s...apparently so they don't look like a 1. But then his 1 looks like a hairpin on it's ends.
  24. My dad answers the phone by saying the phone number...but only 3 digits as it used to be only 3 digits when he first moved in a few decades ago.
